DS17 declared it odd. Shock
I told.him it's delicious and he doesn't know anything. Grin

No roasties for him, ungrateful git

Sue81 · 08/02/2021 16:47

I'd say roast potatoes are perfectly acceptable with pretty much anything Wink

tatutata · 08/02/2021 16:49

I prefer baked potatoes, polenta or cous cous.

boredwiththeoldname · 08/02/2021 16:51

@ShirleyPhallus

Don’t you know that teenagers are experts on everything?

DottyFlossie · 08/02/2021 16:53

Sounds delicious. I love roasties!

Shampops · 08/02/2021 16:53

Roast potatoes are always a welcome visitor in my home. Day or night.

Personally I cannot bear mash.

HexWitch · 08/02/2021 16:54

I hate mash so I'd definitely be happy with roasties and probably dumplings too. I do roasties with goulash top and it's perfect.

wink1970 · 08/02/2021 16:54

Now you have got me thinking, as I am making sausage casserole tonight and DH would prefer roasties with that.... I was aiming for crusty bread or even large yorkshire puddings.

WishICouldThinkOfAGoodName · 08/02/2021 16:54

His loss...

HexWitch · 08/02/2021 16:54

*too not top Confused

UseOfWeapons · 08/02/2021 16:56

Roasties are sublime!
I’d prefer mash with a casserole, but I’d eat roasties with pleasure...especially if someone had kindly made me a nice meal.
Roasties nice in a cheese and mayonnaise sandwich, too 😋

Oysterbabe · 08/02/2021 16:56

Pretty normal I'd say.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/02/2021 16:57

I always have either mash or baked potato with casserole - roast potatoes would feel a bit odd to me - but of someone served me casserole and roast potatoes, I’d eat it gratefully, and I’m sure I’d enjoy it.

But someone who isn’t doing the cooking, doesn’t get to carp about what is dished up to them.

Notanorthadontist · 08/02/2021 17:00

Perfect combination. We’re having pheasant casserole with roast potatoes tonight.

Oblomov21 · 08/02/2021 17:00

Yes I think it's odd. I would normally put potatoes in the casserole to cook.

Or you'd boil potatoes, or have mash?

toolazytothinkofausername · 08/02/2021 17:00

@averylongtimeago

No problem. You eat his if he is grumbling. Roasties go with anything.
They do indeed Grin
Disfordarkchocolate · 08/02/2021 17:12

I love roasties but dumpling or mash would be my preference.

peak2021 · 08/02/2021 17:14

Unusual and I wouldn't do it, but I'm sure perfectly tasty and the OPs DS was ungrateful to respond in the way he did.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/02/2021 17:16

Yep. If ever I do a Sunday Stew then it’s always roasties.

mamawithfive · 08/02/2021 17:18

Yes! I sometimes do home made roast potatoes with a casserole, or sometimes I do Yorkshire puddings instead!

AbsentmindedWoman · 08/02/2021 17:19

I love roast potatoes with basically anything! But they are a perfect companion to casserole.

KevinSausage · 08/02/2021 17:26

Mmmm roast potatoes go with everything - my absolute fave is homemade steak and kidney pie, baked beans, roast potatoes and extra gravy 😋😋😋

bridgetreilly · 08/02/2021 17:33

I would do mash, boiled or jackets, tbh. Because what you want with a casserole is something to soak up the juices. Roasts are better for meat cooked on its own - like roast meat, or chops or steaks or whatever.

Brighterthansunflowers · 08/02/2021 17:35

Roast potatoes are always acceptable

emmathedilemma · 08/02/2021 17:45

I struggle to think of a situation when roast potatoes wouldn't be acceptable!

SmudgeButt · 08/02/2021 17:46

Please don't crucify me MNers.

OP - your husband is right.

Boiled or mashed are best. Jacket potato if it's just a bit of leftovers. But roasters? Never. Completely wrong.

Then again roasters are probably about the last way I would have potatoes at the best of times. They are the brussel sprouts of the potato world.
