To think Wyse London need to rethink their marketing

I get bombarded by ads from Wyse London on Facebook - no idea why

But what sticks out me is it’s generally a woman wearing clothes she really can’t carry off

A quick Google showed the lady is the company founder but still, if you want to appeal to a certain market, then surely you get models who show it off to the best advantage

An article with her wearing the clothes

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2020/dec/13/how-lockdown-unleashed-a-thriving-online-market-for-colourful-clothes

DianaT1969 · 07/02/2021 18:59

I hadn't heard of it. Just googled and I like the clothes and think she looks great. A bit pricey for me, but glad I know it now.

Worried830410 · 07/02/2021 18:59

I agree with you. I like the clothing but she puts me off it somehow.

Crankley · 07/02/2021 19:16

There is so much ageism on here, seemingly the only 'ism' that is tolerated. I think she looks great, far better than the usual stick insect models who bear little resemblance to most women. Plus it's her company so she can do what the hell she likes.

Bearbehind · 07/02/2021 19:19

I have a horrible feeling the OP has mistaken the founder Marielle Wyse for one of the models featured prominently on their website.

No, that’s who I am referring to

On Facebook it’s always her wearing things I just don’t think suit her

If it inspires other women in their 50s then fair play but surely if you go to the trouble of targeting people on Facebook with your adds then it’s better to pick a market who could actually carry off what is being offered

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 07/02/2021 19:22

Sorry - should have said ‘where the majority could carry it off’

FlyingNorth · 07/02/2021 19:25

OP, I'm curious as to why you don't think you could carry off a certain look. If you like it, you can wear it.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 07/02/2021 19:26

What a horrid post , she isn't old ffs and she looks amazing! Shame on you!

DemotedDemotivated · 07/02/2021 19:29

I agree this is stealth marketing Hmm

FlyingNorth · 07/02/2021 19:29

This reminds me of a post the other night about one of the presenters of Pooch Perfect where the poster couldn't get her head around the floaty dress and clumpy trainer combo and asked if there was something wrong with her feet. Seriously, it's just clothes, and we are all different.

Shampops · 07/02/2021 19:33

Sophie Raworth who's in her early 50s wears a lot of Wyse dresses. So maybe that's exactly who their target demographic is.

EllaPaella · 07/02/2021 19:48

I think she looks way better than some of the models on her website. The younger models just look a bit bland and Boden-esque. There is another older model on the Wyse London site that looks amazing.

ElizaLaLa · 07/02/2021 20:10

I hadn't heard it it. Just googled

I think that's the point of the thread.

Bearbehind · 07/02/2021 20:12

I think that's the point of the thread

It really wasn’t, but if it’s encouraged lots of people to try and rock the printed frock and tank top look then I’m glad we’re still in lockdown! 😂

OP posts:
thirstyformore · 07/02/2021 20:12

@EllaPaella I think the other older lady may also model for whistles. What I like about the whistles website is that they have a range of ages. Not just 20 somethings who in reality probably wouldn't spend £120 on a day dress.

I think this is a really harsh thread!!! The Wyse lady looks great. She looks like a real person rocking some good clothes.

Lanique · 07/02/2021 20:22

I have several Wyse tops and jumpers and I absolutely love them. I really like the way that Marielle models the clothes; she looks fab and far more relatable-looking than a 21 year old model. Not really sure what the op’s issue is here.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 07/02/2021 20:30

Horrible thread.

She looks good. Clothes are lovely and I'd buy some if I could afford them!!

Ilovelove · 07/02/2021 20:35

I think she looks really lovely and I can't see any age-inappropriate (whatever that would be) clothes on her website.

I always like websites that use different shape and age models.

DappledThings · 07/02/2021 20:51

Weird thread.

Never heard of the brand but have now looked and it's really nice stuff. More than I would be prepared to spend on clothes but I like the style.

Bearbehind · 07/02/2021 21:05

I think some of the stuff is nice too - it’s the model choice I find odd

The fact she rarely looks at the camera is probably a big part of it - it makes the photos look really odd

But I guess that’s what you can do when it’s your business

OP posts:
MistyMinge2 · 07/02/2021 21:06

She looks great. Refreshing to see clothes modelled by women aged 40+. I love Wyse clothes, just a shame about about the price tag, which is out of my reach.

MustardMitt · 07/02/2021 21:15

I think she and the clothes look nice Confused. I’m 38 if that makes a difference?

I like the model choice.

Elizabethtailor · 07/02/2021 21:18

She looks great. And they are her clothes!! Why shouldn’t she wear them? Isn’t it nice that she is proud of her creations and showing them off herself? What a miserable and mean spirited post. If you don’t think she looks good than you must be blind.

sleepwhenidie · 07/02/2021 21:23

@Bearbehind

Maybe they are trying to target adult women who don't buy clothes based on how attractive the model is but whether they will suit them?

I guess that’s my point though

There aren’t many women over 30 who can pull that look off so it seems odd to appeal to them

Confused there are plenty of women over 30 who could wear those clothes (and look fantastic). What should most people over 30 wear? I’m intrigued to know what is considered appropriate/flattering
Cissyandflora · 07/02/2021 21:31

This has got to be an advert. You made me look and she looks absolutely fantastic! Love the clothes and she looks great in them. I’m too fat unfortunately and not happy in myself.
