Sorry to piss on anyone's chips, but do we have to have lurid thread titles with "fishy burps" and "meaty periods" in them?! It makes me feel sick.

This happened a few years ago and there was a consensus that they needed to tone it down...AIBU?

Although you’ve phrased it as an AIBU, I think it’s unreasonable to take that off board 🤷🏻‍♀️

FlibbertyGiblets · 02/02/2021 18:34

They are usually kept in the Conception boards, and has zero impact on me as I have opted out. Can you do the same? Control panel is in my mumsnet up there somewhere ^

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2021 18:35

I have the Conception board hidden but I think 'spinning out of control' is a bit dramatic.

ClangingChimesofDoom · 02/02/2021 18:36

Yanbu! Is there a way to hide specific threads?

AlexaPlayWhiteNoise · 02/02/2021 19:41

Hide the conception board topic if they offend you?

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2021 19:44

I only joined MN when the DC were 11 and 9 so have never been on the Conception/Birth boards. But if the words 'meaty periods' and 'fishy burps' make you feel sick then strap yourself in tight for childbirth and parenting babies.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 02/02/2021 19:48

Just hide the board Confused

You could possibly tone down the dramatics as well 😂

gingganggooleywotsit · 02/02/2021 19:57

‘Meaty periods’...eww yanbu

Minster2012 · 02/02/2021 20:41

YABVU

Hide them.
OP if you are so offended don't pay attention from one fishy burp to the next meaty period.
Simples. How ppl deal with the ups and downs of conception /MC/MMC & IVF is up to them

sadpapercourtesan · 02/02/2021 20:45

Arf @Sparklingbrook I've been here since 2005 and my kids are almost adults now. And yes, there has been much grossness over the years. It's not the same when it's your own, though Wink

So you could hide the whole Conception topic then?
Dollybird89 · 02/02/2021 20:51

I'm with @minster2012 yabvu
Surely you can just stay away

Conception ain't all pretty with flowers on!

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2021 20:52

I am now intrigued about how TTC gives you fishy burps. Grin

sadpapercourtesan · 02/02/2021 20:52

I could hide it. Have never hidden a whole topic before, and hadn't thought to do it now....I think I will Smile

Still, though....revolting, inconsiderate thread titles.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2021 20:57

I have 11 topics not hidden. It's pointless seeing threads for topics that I'm not interested in, (or titles that offend!)

Also it means that my Active list is more likely to have threads on that interest me not filled up with primary education/dog owning/Relationships etc

Dollybird89 · 02/02/2021 20:57

I think it's inconsiderate that you fail to understand the difficulties some people have of ttc and having a community of people that we can discuss freely our worries over many topics actually helps. The fact you go out your way to try and stop that is absolutely disgusting.
sadpapercourtesan · 02/02/2021 21:01

Nobody is trying to stop you discussing TTC Hmm but it would be nice not to have the most extravagantly repulsive imagery in the thread titles as they pop up on Active Conversations for all to see.

I'm on the conception boards, admittedly not that particular thread, but I'm assuming something to do with Omega 3s maybe? Grin
ValidUser · 02/02/2021 21:04

D'you know what's really extravagantly repulsive? My IVF bills. I'd take fishy burps and meaty periods any day!

Sparklingbrook · 02/02/2021 21:06

Oh that would make sense @AlexaPlayWhiteNoise Grin

I really think Hide Topic is your solution here.
sadpapercourtesan · 02/02/2021 21:08

I think you're right Grin

OP posts:
Minster2012 · 02/02/2021 21:10

@Sparklingbrook I believe it might be the omega 3 oil tablets

@sadpapercourtesan it's pretty inconsiderate to be mean about those that might be struggling TTC & seeking support.

I'm the OP of that thread & like @ValidUser I'm on my 3rd ivf transfer this week & have a child through surrogacy due to cancer. Please read the thread OP before you judge

sadpapercourtesan · 02/02/2021 21:13

I'm not judging anyone on their fertiity issues, nor am I coming onto your thread and disrupting it, nor am I trying to shut it down or stop anything from being discussed! I am only referring to the revolting imagery in the actual thread titles. I winced silently at "fishy burps" for a while, but when I opened MN today and kept seeing "meaty periods" it really made me nauseous.

I've hidden the topic now.

OP posts:
Minster2012 · 02/02/2021 21:13

@AlexaPlayWhiteNoise it is, we were discussing omega 3 that doesn't give fishy burps! 🤣

Any more for any more or can we all just carry on???
