the Conception thread titles are spinning out of control again!

Sorry to piss on anyone's chips, but do we have to have lurid thread titles with "fishy burps" and "meaty periods" in them?! It makes me feel sick.

This happened a few years ago and there was a consensus that they needed to tone it down...AIBU?

@sadpapercourtesan the thing is if you put TTC Bus whatever at the beginning & it pops up on your phone as a notification Everyone knows you are TTC or IVF or whatever and ppl don't want that.
You put something spurious or funny and ppl quickly move on

Or some don't. Case in point 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes, I can understand that - but does it have to be so graphically unpleasant?

Admittedly I have ASD and am very sensitive about blood and bad smells and suchlike, but I doubt I'm the only person who flinches.

I'm on the seven seas ones and I've never had a fishy burp so 10/10 would recommend. Mind, I'm on that many fertility supplements that if you shook me then I'd rattle, so the flavour is probably lost in amongst the despair and OPKs

No, I don't see anything particularly unpleasant there. I take a huge handful of drugs every day to stay alive too

It really was "meaty periods" in the thread title that horrified me. Repeatedly.

Infertility is utterly, utterly shit. I had secondary infertility, then a miracle pregnancy whilst waiting for investigation, and lost our boy at 21+4 in November. Will keep all my fingers crossed for you and your frostie bean.

It's inconsiderate to who exactly? I've seen much worse on MN, including an image of a bit of tissue that fell out of someone post partum. Was I offended? No. Because the title clearly alerted me to what the thread contained. As does the 'TTC BUS' thread.

I've never had the need to go on a conception board as I appear to get pregnant whenever my husband pours me a glass of wine but seriously even I think you should just fuck off.

I am not TTC but if I was the Conception board sounds like a lot more fun than some other Topics on here.

Ah, I remember when my conception threads titles were complained about. Just an in joke to keep our spirits up what we battled through, but pearls were clutches anyway.

Good luck to you ladies on the bus under discussion - it's a tough old road, do what you need to to keep sane.

I believe the term that got us in trouble was to do with butter. You know, one of those "hey look, this every day product looks like genitals" memes that crop up now and then. But we were told smelling salts were needed and we were very crass. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not judging anyone on their fertiity issues, nor am I coming onto your thread and disrupting it, nor am I trying to shut it down or stop anything from being discussed! I am only referring to the revolting imagery in the actual thread titles. I winced silently at "fishy burps" for a while, but when I opened MN today and kept seeing "meaty periods" it really made me nauseous.

I've hidden the topic now.

How do you cope with your own periods OP? It's a bit gross but it's gross out humour. God knows if you ever need a laugh it's when you're struggling to conceive. MN isn't the WI, we're allowed to be as disgusting as we like and long may it last I say.

Some periods are well described as meaty. Stop trying to censor how women talk about their bodies 🙄
That one is descriptive, not gross.
If you flinch and feel nauseated those are your own ridiculous hang ups to deal with 🤷🏻‍♀️

Heaven help the OP if she read my blog & realised the revolting crap I have to deal with in my life which is just part of being me, my "normal bodily functions" & the feelings & embarrassment /mental anguish caused from other ppl's judgement of such things as you just try to deal with it however you can but deep down it still causes pain...this thread will feature in that in the coming week or so. You may get a shout out OP.

The whole point of a separate area to discuss conception is so people can talk freely about their bodies and concerns during ttc. If you dont like then dont look at it, if you're not ttc it's not for you.

What's a meaty period?

I have noticed the language of those thread titles too and don't like it much. They often come over to me as demeaning of women, of reproduction. I've now thanks to this thread hidden the current one thread

‘Disgust’ aside, I always think the random titles look like such overly specific ‘in jokes’ that they would put me off joining if I were new.
