Sorry to piss on anyone's chips, but do we have to have lurid thread titles with "fishy burps" and "meaty periods" in them?! It makes me feel sick.

This happened a few years ago and there was a consensus that they needed to tone it down...AIBU?

OP posts:

So someone who doesn't use/read the TTC board, has categorically no plans to use the TTC board, wants to police what people who do do these things write? Really? Am in the throes of secondary infertility so think l may join you as it looks from this thread some light relief from a difficult time!

badpuma · 03/02/2021 07:35

Is there a way of hiding topics on the app?

Minster2012 · 03/02/2021 08:03

@SmeleanorSmellstrop I'm not sure we can answer that without disgusting @sadpapercourtesan more. We've had a few of us deal with traumatic events like missed miscarriages, early miscarriages & "disappearing BFPS" (chemicals) & we prefer to embrace the pain that comes with being open about it to support each other as well as the fun bits to try keep TTC fun

@MichelleScarn you are very welcome to join ♥️

FTMF30 · 03/02/2021 08:16

YABU with your selfish opinion.

lucyrp · 03/02/2021 08:28

@moonpig23 you find them ridiculously childish ? Have you ever been ttc ?

bez91 · 03/02/2021 08:33

🥩🩸

QueenArseClangers · 03/02/2021 09:08

OP sounds like ‘Disgusted from Tumbridge Wells’.
‘Dear editor, I was SO shocked and disgusted by x that I was forced to pause the telly and rewind it several times to watch said filth again.’

Keep your snout out.

Much love and solidarity to all the women struggling with TTC. You carry on with meaty period chat and fishy burps, sometimes humour (and being with women who understand your pain) is the only thing that keeps one going.

I wish MN would truncate the thread titles cos all the “thread 458” titles which become ever longer so they run over 3-4 threads ruin the layout of my homepage

Would be much neater to keep them to 2 lines in view

badpuma · 03/02/2021 09:13

If anyone else is trying to work out how to hide topics, there is a quick thread here explaining www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3838005-How-to-hide-an-entire-topic-on-Mumsnet

If you hide topics through the website, that should follow through wherever you use MN, but you don't appear to be able to do it through the app.

Franklydear · 03/02/2021 09:16

It is the most supportive thread ever, we have each other's back, and we can ask support for absolutely anything, warts and all, that is what mn should be

Vil10 · 03/02/2021 09:24

Some of the comments on here are tragic, imagine creating a thread to discuss the "disgusting" thread title of a bus of women, who majority are STRUGGLING may I add, that thread is the biggest support system going, if anything can get a woman through a cp/missed carriage/ivf it is our bus of fishy burps and meaty periods, if you're sensitive to those you really don't wanna know about the lake of sperm I had on my sheets this morning🍆 have a nice day x

Juno231 · 03/02/2021 10:49

@barretbonden how on earth is it demeaning of reproduction?

Sheleg · 03/02/2021 10:54

I agree, OP. "Fishy burps" turns my stomach whenever I see it.

The daft AD threads are almost as bad. Pussy photos, or whatever drivel it is currently.

KasparKat · 03/02/2021 10:59

I find it a bit of a sad reflection on society that OP's first reaction to something that annoys her is that other people should stop doing something they obviously enjoy because it offends her, rather than take any action herself.

Minster2012 · 03/02/2021 11:08

@KasparKat 🙌🏻 currently eating my brunch of eggs, mackerel & leftover veg from my healthy veggie meal last night & thought the same. Pic on our thread & ive shared the recipe on my blog. We often do that fit each other. It can cause fishy burps but full of great nutrients 💪🏻

I agree.
AHobbyaweek · 03/02/2021 12:33

OP feel free to move to netmums hun.
Mumsnet is free and sweary and open to all sorts of disgusting things. That is what makes it good. There are loads of horrible offensive things on the internet that you could moan about but you manage to avoid those.
Feel free to hide the topic.

Also don't read the actual threads or your pearls will fly off your neck due to your hard clutching.

Xiaoxiong · 03/02/2021 12:54

Radglags I agree about the in-jokes, but often people come on a new thread and say "come join us over on " and it grows that way.

Every so often I sort convos by ones that have no replies (usually new users) and signpost them to long running threads or the right board to get answers. Threads with no replies make me sad!

I don’t even know what AD is all about. Anti depressants? No idea. I just hide them. Easy.
CandlesBlanketsandTea · 03/02/2021 17:05

I read Fishy Burp as a fanny fart from all the shagging! Clearly that was just me... Confused

Iaintaffraidofcoldtoast · 03/02/2021 17:10

Yeah ‘meaty periods’ is a bit much.
It a bit like those adds that pop up showing you those little stones at the back of your through that are supposed to cause bad breath...

Justanothercyster · 03/02/2021 18:54

YABU, if you don't like it, ignore it. Best thread I've ever been on to support me through my fertility issues, a nice relief from the tears of ttc. You won't find a more welcoming and supportive bunch of ladies.

Thanks for having the time to give us a shoutout though 👍🏻

P.s. fishy burps are due to omega 3, and the original conversation was about how we can avoid them. That's one of our "lighter" topics 😂

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2021 18:58

It's not like anyone is posting a picture of a 'meaty period' though. Confused I don't think there's any need for the angst over this.
