Lodger eating my food

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:46

My lodger has admitted to eating food out of my pan - leftovers from what I cooked, that I went back and put into a container to eat the next day. I must have been gone for no more than 20 mins. She claims to have had one spoon.

I find this utterly repulsive. AIBU?

They should not have it but you are going a bit over the top. Have they apologised and said they won't do it again?

Lockheart · 12/01/2021 23:48

This is the latest in a series of strikingly similar threads... Sure you've not posted this before OP?

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:49

Lockheart nope first time for me

How is it repulsive?

When I'm cooking anyone available is usualy forced to sample a spoonful for taste (my seasoning tastes are bit different than most)

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:50

caringcarer I was so surprised I didn’t say anything

It’s a hygiene thing

Repulsive is a bit strong isn't it. They tried a spoonful of your leftover dinner, it's hardly a major crime. It would have been more polite to ask if they could have a bit but it's certainly not something I'd be able to invest any feelings in.

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:52

sinful8 because I don’t believe it was just one spoon and she isn’t the most hygienic person

In fact I developed a bad tummy ache soon after I had the left overs - and I never, ever get bad tummy aches

Get rid of her. That's disgusting and thievery. She can buy her own damn food.

Because you keep your spoons dirty?
MrsEricBana · 12/01/2021 23:54

Sounds like you don't like or trust her much so probably time to give her notice.

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:54

Sinful8 certainly not - I’m not the one with hygiene problems

Vivenne · 12/01/2021 23:54

How long has she been staying with you OP? Is it your home?

Cherrysoup · 12/01/2021 23:54

I’d ask her not to take your food. It isn’t appropriate. Equally, stick leftovers in a container and seal it.

if you find it so repulsive that she used a spoon to try your food, are you sure that having a lodger is really for you...?

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:56

Vivenne yes my home. Took her in as I don’t have great job security at the mo. She’s been here just over a year. She’s broken so much too, pays to get things fixed, it’s just tiring. Bull in a China shop.

I think to be repulsed by someone trying a spoonful of your leftover food is a bit odd. And suggests that having a lodger is not right for you.

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:57

CyberNan I don’t provide food as part of the lodger agreement. I’ve never commented when she’s taken tinned food as I’m not fussed over a few quid here and there.

If you want to feign food poisoning then you should be aware the symptoms don't come on that rapidly.

LolaButt · 12/01/2021 23:58

I bet she double dipped. Yum.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/01/2021 23:58

Get rid of her, op. She clearly does not respect you, your home, or boundaries.

Confusedashell12 · 12/01/2021 23:58

SonjaMorgan it wasn’t food poisoning
