PyongyangKipperbang · 12/01/2021 23:32

Not threads about Covid but people who will post on a thread about (say) meeting a mate for a coffee and say "Well you shouldnt be meeting anyone should you?" or "I assume you are in the UK, so YABU for leaving your house at all"

This always happens in threads where there is no information given about "bubbles" or mental health issues etc, but there is always one who does it!

Or people who feel the need to post....."I am meeting my friend for a walk, socially distanced obviously!" because if they dont add the final comment they just know that someone will jump on them.

I agree that we should all be doing what we need to do in lockdown, but I dont assume the worst when someone posts, I assume that whatever it is that they are discussing, they are doing within the law. I dont feel the need to remind them what they already know! And also, if someone is such an asshole that they will ignore the law then nothing said by a sanctimonious MNer will stop them so why bother?!

Vitrue signalling has got so much worse since CV19 imo.

I'm getting more pissed off with covid threads in AIBU tbh.

pawsies · 12/01/2021 23:45

Yes I'm sick of people judging from their cosy homes where they have secure jobs, a nice family and plenty of income.
Of course they can abide by the rules easily.

I feel for those that can't cope alone or those worried about their bills they can't pay and therefore they are seeking work (that may not be legal but they are just trying to survive).

It's tough all round but judging isn't the answer.

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/01/2021 23:51

@Lockheart

I'm getting more pissed off with covid threads in AIBU tbh.
This wasnt supposed to be about Covid and I am sorry if thats how its come across.

I meant more that some people will make any single innocuous thread to be about covid even when it wasnt.

"Do these shoes go with this dress?"
"Why does it matter, you shouldnt be going out during lockdown anyway, heard of Covid?!!!!"

You know what I mean?

Whereas I would say "yes, but the dress makes your arse look massive". Wink :o

OP posts:
Lockheart · 12/01/2021 23:54

@PyongyangKipperbang alas my arse is looking massive in everything post Christmas Grin

But yes I do know what you mean!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 12/01/2021 23:57

I’m with you, OP. It’s so frustrating when you’re trying to engage with a thread and even a simple comment such as ‘She spoke to me like crap when I saw her last week’ is pounced on with a ‘Where did you see her? Does lockdown not apply to you two?’

callmeadoctor · 12/01/2021 23:58

Yes, Im getting fed up with it too, maybe Mumsnet HQ could make a statement? Its really getting depressing how every thread is being hijacked by Covid police!

Theunamedcat · 13/01/2021 00:01

I hid one earlier because op was talking about something and people were trying to derail it to be about teachers and covid FFS its nothing to do with teachers make your own thread

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/01/2021 00:02

I have been wanting to post this since... oooh, April?! Its got so bad now that I have a twitch when I hear the words "socially distanced"

I get it. I do it! I just dont feel the need to remind others to do it too!

I know exactly the thread you mean!

I hid it too! I got about 20 posts in before I decided that the NUT have decided to spam MN......no I dont mean I hid it, I socially distanced from it.

OP posts:
jcyclops · 13/01/2021 00:06

It's only natural that posts will attract censure if the circumstances are not made clear.

  1. "I was driving my Porsche at 95mph and this show-off in a Ferrari passed me on the inside"
  2. "My 30th birthday party was great - over 50 people came round to our house, about half of them wearing masks!"

PS. Forgot to mention:
Might sound crazy but I have never owned a Porsche, DP bought me a track day at Silverstone for my 35th birthday, and my fancy dress 30th birthday was 7 years ago.

Theunamedcat · 13/01/2021 00:07

I had a socially distanced ice cream...so someone slingshot it into your mouth from two meters away?

So tired of the words "socially distanced" I want to be classed as an antisocial bitch again im tired of being politically correct its not in my nature

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 13/01/2021 00:07

Can't quote your post of 23.51, because it's already a quoted post.

But, you insensitive bitch. My already massive arse is now huge-er because of covid

You are mean!

That made me laugh out loud at the images it conjured up!

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/01/2021 00:13

Its weird that "Social Distancing" I am fine with.

But "socially distanced" makes me want to be very unsocially close up to someones gob with my fist!

Its the way that the phrase has become a badge of honour or something. I cant find the words to describe why it incites rage in me, but it does!

OP posts:
SquirtleSquad · 13/01/2021 00:14

I get what you mean OP. I think the problem is everything in our lives at the moment revolves in some way around covid and it's in everyone's minds pretty much all of the time and it's hard to shake that so for a lot of people (regardless of the topic) they jump back to it.

I can't wait for the days when this is all a distant memory and all of the good parking threads are back because people are out being arseholes again GrinWine

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 13/01/2021 00:16

God yes YANBU at all! I'm sick of it too. People are becoming really nasty to others about anything where they can bring it back to CV. It's like that drunk person at a party who turns every conversation about themself then start playing Wonderwall to impress people only no one is listening. But no one else can get a word in edgeways. They're just derailing everything.
It's getting REALLY tedious.

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 13/01/2021 00:19

Part of me wonders about doing what they do sometimes on the feminism board when the late-night antifeminist turns up, and just quote random shite to drown the antifeminist out.
Also I'm wondering how long it takes them to derail this thread.

PickAChew · 13/01/2021 00:34

The problem with that, NoOne is that someone posts with a dilemma, then someone jumps in starting a huge argument about their made up version of the rules (clearly always people who don't have any responsibility for keeping a family ticking over and/or earning a living) and, if everyone piles in with recipes and book reviews, OP's dilemma gets forgotten, unless OP is feeling sturdy enough to join in with the distracting pile on.

BritWifeinUSA · 13/01/2021 00:36

I’m with you n this. I’m fed up of everyone picking everything apart and finding some way of being the bloody virus into it. And conversely people having to pre-empt this and add extra information in their post (eg “I am not in the UK” or “this was 2 years ago” or “I’m single and my father recently died so my mum is in my support bubble”). At any other time you wouldn’t have to justify yourself such as “I was driving to work yesterday (within the speed limit, with my seat belt on, I have a full license and my car is taxed and insured)...” to prove you are complying with all the relevant laws.

Thats a far more eloquent way of putting it than I managed, so I thank you!

I find it reassuring that I'm not the only one doing my best to follow the rules, so YABU.

NoseinBook3 · 13/01/2021 00:49

YANBU it’s getting on my nerves. Especially when guidance is confused with law
