Not threads about Covid but people who will post on a thread about (say) meeting a mate for a coffee and say "Well you shouldnt be meeting anyone should you?" or "I assume you are in the UK, so YABU for leaving your house at all"

This always happens in threads where there is no information given about "bubbles" or mental health issues etc, but there is always one who does it!

Or people who feel the need to post....."I am meeting my friend for a walk, socially distanced obviously!" because if they dont add the final comment they just know that someone will jump on them.

I agree that we should all be doing what we need to do in lockdown, but I dont assume the worst when someone posts, I assume that whatever it is that they are discussing, they are doing within the law. I dont feel the need to remind them what they already know! And also, if someone is such an asshole that they will ignore the law then nothing said by a sanctimonious MNer will stop them so why bother?!

Vitrue signalling has got so much worse since CV19 imo.

AIBU?

Oh, bloody hell @malmi Grin

Mulhollandmagoo · 13/01/2021 00:53

Yeah, I cringe when I see those sort of replies, purely because I imagine that poster is so very proud of themselves for reminding someone of 'the guidelines'

There was a thread before Christmas about someone not wanting to host Christmas and the covid police had an absolute field day, utter hysteria, until the OP came back and updated that she was in Australia 😂 they all quietly retreated

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/01/2021 00:55

@malmi

I find it reassuring that I'm not the only one doing my best to follow the rules, so YABU.
But would you butt in on a thread that has nothing to do with "it" and insist that the OP provide their covid safe credentials? Do you always assume the worst in others?

I have been on MN since Noah was a boy, and I always fall for the PBP's and GF's, because I assume the best in everyone. So I cannot imagine seeing someone asking on here if her new "going out" dress looked nice and my first thought being "but why are you going out".

I can't wait for the days when this is all a distant memory and all of the good parking threads are back because people are out being arseholes again

And every thread becomes a bunfight over trans rights or breastfeeding. Those were halcyon days.

PyongyangKipperbang · 13/01/2021 01:01

I said back in May/June "Christ and I thought Brexit was bad, I miss it now"

How fucking wrong I was!

TooManyKidsSendHelp · 13/01/2021 01:05

I'm in a part of Australia that has virtually no restrictions at all, and life is pretty much normal. I find it exhausting to have to defend the most inane things that I have mentioned because of the covid police.

And yes, I know that MN is a UK site, but there are a hell of a lot of long time posters on here who are not in the UK. I would prefer people come from a position where they just deal with the matter at hand in the OP, rather than interrogating people about not following restrictions when they have no information about where the OP currently lives.

But ultimately this is a public forum so if people want to ruin the majority of discussions with their irrelevant and pedantic lines of questioning then I suppose we can't really stop them.

malmi · 13/01/2021 01:05

No I don't butt into other threads but when people casually describe doing things that are generally against the law currently in the UK I am reassured by any clarification that they are indeed following the rules.

Because I'm missing out on loads of stuff I'd like to be doing if I didn't care about the law.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 13/01/2021 01:05

@Lockheart

I'm getting more pissed off with covid threads in AIBU tbh.
🤣🤣🤣
giantangryrooster · 13/01/2021 01:06

Oh you are being unreasonable op Grin.
No thread is complete without the covid interrogation, it makes any thread (breastfeeding especially) much more interesting and any advice given will be even worse than normally. But think how much better the posters piling on will feel about themselves, it's a mission on its own Wink.

I'm with ya!!!!

Desperate for the day I open up MN to read about someone arguing with their MIL or someone's kicking off because someone has parked over their drive!!!

saraclara · 13/01/2021 01:07

@BritWifeinUSA

I’m with you n this. I’m fed up of everyone picking everything apart and finding some way of being the bloody virus into it. And conversely people having to pre-empt this and add extra information in their post (eg “I am not in the UK” or “this was 2 years ago” or “I’m single and my father recently died so my mum is in my support bubble”). At any other time you wouldn’t have to justify yourself such as “I was driving to work yesterday (within the speed limit, with my seat belt on, I have a full license and my car is taxed and insured)...” to prove you are complying with all the relevant laws.
Perfectly said!
Nikhedonia · 13/01/2021 01:18

@Theunamedcat

I hid one earlier because op was talking about something and people were trying to derail it to be about teachers and covid FFS its nothing to do with teachers make your own thread
Bloody hell that was annoying.
Totallydefeated · 13/01/2021 01:29

Totally with you on this, OP. Every time one of the Covid Stasi pipe up with their sanctimonious finger-wagging, I want to scream ‘oh bore off, you tedious fucking sticky beak, and get a fucking life!’. I don’t, obvs. I mean, there’s no life to be had at the moment, in any case.

I just flounce silently off the thread, and go mooching about in AIBU forlornly searching in vain for a CF neighbour or juicy parking thread. It’s ruining MN.

Nikhedonia · 13/01/2021 01:31

Even a good parking thread would be ruined Sad

"Why have you moved your car, OP? In your post of 11:17am you said you had popped out to get a few essentials, surely you don't need to get any more essentials?! There is a pandemic you know Hmm"

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 13/01/2021 01:32

Omg this this this. I am so with you.

“Socially distanced, of course!”

Those four words can be consigned to the fucking sea the minute this fiasco is over.

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 13/01/2021 01:35

See also:

“Fucking pandemic” (as in “don’t you know we are in the middle of a fucking pandemic” Shock)
“Global pandemic”
“Stay The Fuck At Home”
Also I hate “there’s a [fucking] pandemic on” because I am not entirely sure it’s correct. Are pandemics “on”? Do they go “off” again?

MamaTookMyEyebrows · 13/01/2021 01:37

Oh and yeah the teachers. Who I totally side with. Agree, unsafe working conditions. Thrown under the bus. Damned if they do and damned if they don’t. I am completely and utterly behind them.

But oh my god. Not every thread needs to be about teachers.

SquirtleSquad · 13/01/2021 01:37

I've just opened a thread about someone's shower gel smelling like actual shit and all of the comments are "omg you've got covid" "sense of smell change = covid" "get a test"

Fuck off

Nikhedonia · 13/01/2021 01:38

Test. NOW. Grin
SquirtleSquad · 13/01/2021 01:40

It's ridiculous it's literally a thread about Milton brown smelling like human shit and apparently that's a sign of covid Grin💩

sparticuscaticus · 13/01/2021 01:45

I agree with you OP & think this is a timely AIBU topic

It's such a bore when people virtue signal and unnecessarily pick apart what an OP meant and try to derail into an "are you complying with current Covid restrictions in England?" when the thread is about something else entirely, there is no reason to assume the OP isn't following local guidance to social distance etc in their country / area.

NoseinBook3 · 13/01/2021 01:46
Grin
Cadent · 13/01/2021 01:54

YANBU. I think they’re the Covidiots OP. They should be deleted.

Sinful8 · 13/01/2021 06:20

Nah its great, this is a once in a life time event. Don't just let it pass you by, experience it, live it, odds are you'll never experience a cultural time like this again.

CrotchBurn · 13/01/2021 06:23

I loathe all the twee language surrounding covid: "socially distanced walk", "we are shielding", "we bubbled up with them".

Fucking nauseating!
