PyongyangKipperbang · 12/01/2021 23:32

Not threads about Covid but people who will post on a thread about (say) meeting a mate for a coffee and say "Well you shouldnt be meeting anyone should you?" or "I assume you are in the UK, so YABU for leaving your house at all"

This always happens in threads where there is no information given about "bubbles" or mental health issues etc, but there is always one who does it!

Or people who feel the need to post....."I am meeting my friend for a walk, socially distanced obviously!" because if they dont add the final comment they just know that someone will jump on them.

I agree that we should all be doing what we need to do in lockdown, but I dont assume the worst when someone posts, I assume that whatever it is that they are discussing, they are doing within the law. I dont feel the need to remind them what they already know! And also, if someone is such an asshole that they will ignore the law then nothing said by a sanctimonious MNer will stop them so why bother?!

Vitrue signalling has got so much worse since CV19 imo.

@thepeopleversuswork

Agree.

I'm following rules to the letter etc and as happy as the next person to judge someone for being a covidiot but a thread about the breakdown of someone's relationship isn't the place for it. It's beyond tedious.

I wonder if this is how it felt in the old Soviet Union? Did every conversation end up with someone questioning your loyalty to Comrade Stalin?

I don't think most people are able to see the comparisons to the Soviet Union. They genuinely think they are somehow different and in their case it is totally valid to police your neighbours, stop anyone who doesn't agree with you and basically trounce any form of free speech.

I really truly think that these Covid Monitors have never thought beyond what today offers and given more than a millisecond of thought to the consequences of what they are doing

Aloamilk · 13/01/2021 10:40

It shouldn't bother me so much except I have come to detest the "SD" phrase (can't even type it anymore!) and sincerely hope it is never used again after the pandemic.

Totally agree, can't stand it

Lockdownshmockdown · 13/01/2021 10:47

@Theunamedcat

I had a socially distanced ice cream...so someone slingshot it into your mouth from two meters away?

So tired of the words "socially distanced" I want to be classed as an antisocial bitch again im tired of being politically correct its not in my nature

Grin

I completely agree with this thread. I think it's bloody sad how many people's lives just revolve around fucking coronavirus. What the hell will they do with themselves when this is all over? Some people are enjoying it too much. It's morbid.

Buddytheelf85 · 13/01/2021 10:51

I do agree with you, BUT I’ve seen a few threads where the initial post didn’t make much sense in light of the Covid rules. So was likely to be bullshit. I think it’s ok to question the poster in that context.

bumblingbovine49 · 13/01/2021 10:59

@Sinful8

Nah its great, this is a once in a life time event. Don't just let it pass you by, experience it, live it, odds are you'll never experience a cultural time like this again.
I agree. It's the most momentous ( in a bad way) global event that has affected me personally in my 55 years of life. It is history in the making, why not see it like that? It is not a good thing but it is interesting. Then again I was born in the 60s so have been alive during the most stable, healthy and overall prosperous period of European history for hundreds ( if not thousands ) of years so it makes a change anyway Wine
OrigamiOwl · 13/01/2021 11:01

@Lockheart

I'm getting more pissed off with covid threads in AIBU tbh.
Totally agree with this. AIBU shouldn't be the dumping ground for all threads. The numbers of posts on AIBU that are "I've got a continuous cough and have lost my sense of smell, should I get a test?" leaves me baffled... there's a board for this exact topic and also if you genuinely don't know the answer by now there is probably no helping you.
JamieLeesCurtains · 13/01/2021 11:07

@ScuseMeCoughCough

Who exactly was it 'goading'? The people who spoil my daily walks maybe? Good.
'My daily walk'.

That's another phrase I never want to fucking hear again.

It's a bit smuggy sounding, like something Fotherinton-Thomas would come out with. Actually it reminds me of school prayers. 'Give us this day our daily bread ... and deliver us from double maths, amen ...'

Buddytheelf85 · 13/01/2021 11:16

“Fucking pandemic” (as in “don’t you know we are in the middle of a fucking pandemic” shock)
“Global pandemic”
“Stay The Fuck At Home”
Also I hate “there’s a [fucking] pandemic on” because I am not entirely sure it’s correct. Are pandemics “on”? Do they go “off” again?

Yes to every single one of these. I particularly hate ‘stay the fuck at home’. So self-righteous. So officious. So unoriginal.

I'm 10000000000% with you on this OP!!!!!!

CostaDelCovid · 13/01/2021 15:04

@BritWifeinUSA

I’m with you n this. I’m fed up of everyone picking everything apart and finding some way of being the bloody virus into it. And conversely people having to pre-empt this and add extra information in their post (eg “I am not in the UK” or “this was 2 years ago” or “I’m single and my father recently died so my mum is in my support bubble”). At any other time you wouldn’t have to justify yourself such as “I was driving to work yesterday (within the speed limit, with my seat belt on, I have a full license and my car is taxed and insured)...” to prove you are complying with all the relevant laws.
THIS!!!!!!!!

It won't be long before this starts though, I expect

CostaDelCovid · 13/01/2021 15:07

@malmi

No I don't butt into other threads but when people casually describe doing things that are generally against the law currently in the UK I am reassured by any clarification that they are indeed following the rules.

Because I'm missing out on loads of stuff I'd like to be doing if I didn't care about the law.

Why? Why is it your business whether they're following the rules or not? Are you a Police Officer?
Fuckingcrustybread · 13/01/2021 15:23

You don't know these people, you will probably never meet them, they are strangers on an Internet forum. What possible difference can it make to you if they're following the rules. Why do you find it reassuring that complete strangers are obeying rules. It literally has no effect on you or your life at all. What if they're all lying?

Covid Police are the new "WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE IMMEDIATELY WHEN BREXIT HAPPENS" although a few of those posters have even tried to weave Brexitaphobia into the Covid threads too.

loulouljh · 13/01/2021 15:57

I think some people truly have nothing better to do!!!

MrsAvocet · 13/01/2021 16:21

Yes, it has got to the point where all other aspects of life have to be suspended and we aren't allowed to have any other concerns or interests. Of course Covid is important but it doesn't mean that everything else grinds to a halt! I've got a medical appointment with a specialist in a city over 100 miles away on Friday. I'm quite anxious about it and was on the verge of posting about it in the health forum but decided against it. I can't be bothered with the inevitable posts asking "but is it essential" and stating "you should be staying local". Because obviously I just fancy a long drive into a city with high Covid rates for a bit of fun, I haven't considered the risks vs benefits whatsoever, or tried more local services. And in fact I'm just bloody selfish daring to have a health problem that isn't Covid and then having the audacity to want treatment for it.

Vintagevixen · 13/01/2021 16:43

YANBU.

I honestly think some people have never had so much excitement in their lives, they are loving the drama.

Think they are lurking about any thread waiting for any opportunity to occupy the moral high ground. In all honesty they were probably on the breastfeeding threads before though, telling everyone how they toughed it through feeding even though their nipples fell off and we should all put up with it for THE GOOD OF OUR BABIES! FORMULA IS POISON! Etc etc.

BountyFul · 13/01/2021 16:45

@hamstersarse apparently living under the Soviet Union made Russians much more blunt in their communication style. They’ll say how they feel because being honest, rather than polite, is valued within a friendship/relationship. It would be interesting to see if that results from this pandemic.

amicissimma · 13/01/2021 17:05

YANBU.

And 'Am I the only one following the rules?'. As it seems compliance is about 90% in most cases, no, you are not. Not the real rules, anyway. But if you are making up your own rules there's a fair chance that most people aren't following those.

And those who are not either don't give a damn or are in a situation where the pretty certain result of following the rules is even more awful than the possible result of catching Covid. So either way, you bitching and moaning about it isn't going to change their minds.
