To keep this erroneously delivered coffee machine

Agapinkus · 12/01/2021 20:19

That I didn't order or pay for. I ordered a small value item (£25) and they also delivered (addressed to me with only my name on the label but with no charge to my account) a fancy coffee machine worth £200+.

I feel that as I didn't order or pay for it I should send it back. My friend thinks I should say nothing and thank my lucky stars.

What would you do? YABU to keep it. YANBU to send it back.

I would send it back

frazzledasarock · 12/01/2021 20:21

Call them ask them to pick it up.

WelcomeToGreenvale · 12/01/2021 20:23

I would tell the retailer and request that they pay for a courier to come and get it. It's their mistake and you shouldn't be inconvenienced. It's up to them whether to pay to have it sent back or to cut their losses. With an expensive item they probably will get a courier to pick it up.

AliBear90 · 12/01/2021 20:23

I would email or call them to let them know. But you never know, they might let you keep it! But only because I’m a massive wimp! And I’d get anxious about it. But if you wouldn’t feel anxious / stressed by it then keep it.

Leah2005 · 12/01/2021 20:23

I would contact the seller and ask them to pick it up. Then keep fingers crossed they don't bother and your conscience would be clear because at least you offered to give it back.

bearlyactive · 12/01/2021 20:23

I'd tell them. They may but are unlikely to ask you if you'd like to keep it!

BikeRunSki · 12/01/2021 20:23

Ask them to pick it up, they might tell you to keep it.

Floralnomad · 12/01/2021 20:24

Call them and tell them , to me keeping it is no different to stealing .

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 12/01/2021 20:24

Depends who the seller is...amazon I’d keep it Grin

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 12/01/2021 20:24

Keeping it without telling them is stealing. If you let them know, they may let you have it and you can enjoy it guilt free.

Jeschara · 12/01/2021 20:24

I too would contact the seller

Calmandmeasured1 · 12/01/2021 20:25

Contact the seller and let them arrange for it to be collected.

Honeyhoops · 12/01/2021 20:27

My friend had something similar happen, with Amazon. She let them know and was told she could keep the (expensive) item.

AdoraBell · 12/01/2021 20:27

I would call them, or email.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 12/01/2021 20:27

I had a similar thing happen where a company sent me 2 identical coats but I had only ordered one. I had only paid for one. I called them to explain and they wanted me to either pay postage to return it or drive into the city centre, pay for parking to return it to the shop.
I said I wouldn't do either of those things so they told me to keep it.
Coats value was about £100.

LubaLuca · 12/01/2021 20:29

Tell the retailer what's happened so they can arrange to collect it (at your convenience).

Agapinkus · 12/01/2021 20:30

Okay. Well I already sent it back but everyone I've told the story to in person goes: I'd have kept it! Interesting that on an anonymous forum you're all honest. I must keep really bad company.

Anyway, the company were very slow to pick it up and never sent an acknowledgment even (I repackaged it and contacted the courier to have It picked up. Not a massive inconvenience but still). Like a "thanks for that" email so while I'm not sorry I took the morally correct path I am a bit Hmm at the lack of an acknowledgment. I had images of someone getting into trouble because of this misplaced stock!

I would say keep it.

Then I wouldn’t sleep for days and worry that the police would knock on my door and take me to jail.

So id call the company and hope they let me keep it.

Maves · 12/01/2021 20:32

Fuck it I'd have kept it.

LubaLuca · 12/01/2021 20:33

Which company is it?

Missushbb · 12/01/2021 20:34

Jesus Christ. What a drip feed. Why ask then? What shop was it? How would someone have time to go to find out who returned it, get your details to get back and say thanks very much for sending it back. Is that maybe why people you have actually spoke to have said you should have kept it, as you told them full story?

Maves · 12/01/2021 20:34

Was it Argos?

Agapinkus · 12/01/2021 20:35

Ah Maves now I'm kinda sorry I didn't (as they were so unbothered by its return) but then I'd have been like MrsDThomas waiting for the police to come and take me (and my machine) away Grin.

This happened to me when a large company delivered a £500 electric fire that I’d cancelled and bought elsewhere due to how much they’d messed me around. I tried to return it online to find that my account was showing it as cancelled and no money had been taken.

I was annoyed as hell with the company and their awful customer service. I still contacted them and asked them to collect it.

Agapinkus · 12/01/2021 20:36

missus because I couldn't find "what would you do" which is probably where this belonged.

And I love a vote Blush
