Why men love bitches

Browsing for books and this comes up as a recommendation (Confused): Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl―A Woman's Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship.

Looked at reviews and one reviewer posted a pic of extract from the book (attached here).

Has anyone read this? Is it tongue in cheek?!

Tbh, it is irritating.

However, i have had boyfriends ask me why i haven't asked for their help to get glasses from a higher shelf etc. Men do like doing some of that shizz ( shrugs)

Shoxfordian · 12/01/2021 17:08

Yeah I’ve read it, some men do like that silliness

GoldfishParade · 12/01/2021 17:10

@Shoxfordian
Is it actually an interesting book? I'm kind of tempted!

It's mentioned loads on here

Shoxfordian · 12/01/2021 17:13

@GoldfishParade

I actually liked it in some respects. She talks about keeping your own interests when you date a man and letting him work for your attention not just cancelling your interests for him. I think the page you found isn’t representative of the book as a whole. She also wrote why men marry bitches which I liked as well.

Changedforthisyear · 12/01/2021 17:14

The ‘hero instinct’ is a big thing at the moment, that extract is along those lines.

Idratherberude · 12/01/2021 17:16

Reading that list, I honestly don't know how I've ever lured a man into my life. I think it would only be suitable for dating a gorgeous simpleton or insecure wannabe alpha type. Not sexy.

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/01/2021 17:19

Wtf? I think that’s awful.

grassisjeweled my mumsnet addiction mustn’t be as bad as I thought- I’ve never heard of it.

blueshoes · 12/01/2021 17:19

I bet those b.... are also coincidentally happen to be really physically attractive. Bet these men (why do we care what they think anyway) won't be putting up with an unattractive one.

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/01/2021 17:20

It’s very performative. I’m not a good enough actor.

Covine · 12/01/2021 17:22

Christ, as if men don't get enough fawning admiration for undertaking everyday tasks.

Givemeabreak88 · 12/01/2021 17:23

It’s recommended a lot on the relationships board on here

Tish008 · 12/01/2021 17:24

So change you're behaviour to get and keep a man?

No thanks. I'm fucking awesome as I am, don't like me? Walk on by!

Tish008 · 12/01/2021 17:24

Your! *

Robbybobtail · 12/01/2021 17:26

Hmm, i wonder if i developed a sudden fear of the marigolds or the hoover dh would rush to my aid to take over, thus saving me from my phobia? Im sure it would get tired very soon - only quick, no effort things such as squashing a bug seem to bring out this protective male instinct!

nevernotstruggling · 12/01/2021 17:26

It's a technique that relies on social conditioning. If the bloke is trying to fulfil that role it will work.

It's a bit dated now I think. For women. Not for men they love all this!

BadEyeBri · 12/01/2021 17:28

That is vomit inducing.

CounsellorTroi · 12/01/2021 17:29

Men can fancy a woman even if she's bitchy or brainless, because the surface interest is there - but women tend to find a gorgeous man whose personality doesn't match up a bit of a disappointment.
Turnedouttoes · 12/01/2021 17:30

I think a lot of women posting on the relationships board could take on some of the advice to retain your independence and own interests and not give up your life for a man you’ve known 5 minutes

Terracottasaur · 12/01/2021 17:30

🤣 trying to imagine the reception I would get if I heard a bird pooping on the roof and tried to get my husband to investigate

Things like getting stuff from the top shelf or opening jars isn't macho or sexist or anything else its just being helpful.

I'm shorted than my husband so its not so easy for me to reach stuff if its high or to open stiff jars or do various other tasks. When I started being a regular at his place he would help get things down initially but then I found he started reorganising the cupboards so I could reach most of the things we used. He'd still helped even thought there were steps. It was just us working together.

If we were out he'd offer me his gloves or put my hands in his pockets (coat) if I was cold. (Usually tell me I should have dressed for the weather). A lot of the stuff seen as being a bit sexist/chauvinist can also simply be seen as someone caring.

I do try and do my best to take care of him as well.

LadyfromtheBelleEpoque · 12/01/2021 17:37

What does that kind of behaviour do to a woman’s self esteem? Wouldn’t you need to keep it up throughout the relationship? What happens when he discovers you are actually competent at functioning as an adult?

I agree that there is a real hero need going on - what’s behind all of that?

CSIblonde · 12/01/2021 17:37

I read that a while back, it's a bit tongue in cheek. But I've had a lot of male friends & work colleagues who openly admit to love 'nightmare' bitchy women. They find it a challenge & exciting never knowing where they stand: & they think having lots of make up sex after frankly, mind blowingly petty arguements = passion & excitement. Personally I'd find it bloody exhausting & that's not what I want it out of a relationship. I also don't want a wet puppy dog I can walk all over. Eugh.

cultkid · 12/01/2021 17:38

I read that book after fucking up loads of dates

Went on one more date
