Thanks for this. I am normally very rational and level headed but I have been struggling today a lot with anxiety. At this point, the virus is neither here nor there (I have already had covid over Christmas and felt shit but was largely ok) but my anxiety is around the restrictions and how desperate I am to get back to normal. Posts saying things like international travel will be banned forever and that we’ll be in lockdown for years have been very unhelpful today.

This is the real reason. Lots of people on this site have no friends and lead miserable lives so the only way they can feel superior or equal to others is to bring them down with negativity and fear. I pity them even though their actions are vile.

Parents aren't allowed in the school playground at my kids school anyway, Covid or not. It's bliss. I'd never heard of such a thing until I read Mumsnet. It's bliss, no playground parent politics.

I agree OP. It's so bloody depressing to see so much absolute bollocks stated as fact.

Problem is, many people have absolutely no critical thinking skills and will believe anything if it is written down and seem to have no means/inclination to spend a couple of minutes fact-checking.

It's not great to try and create panic, but I don't think you will stop people thinking and speculating about this stuff. They were initially told that the covid project would be two months, at the outside, and then it would be under control. It's clear now it will be much longer and people are worried about how long it will be.

They are also worried about the extent to which long term restrictions may become accepted as normal or just never go away again.

None of this can be discussed in terms of fact or non-fact, because it involves the future. But people will worry about the future.

I couldn’t agree more OP. While I get that people are fearful, the pandemic has brought out a lovely shade of bell end in some folk. It’s exhausting

People are genuinely loving the drama - I think it gives them purpose in a society which has been suffering anomie for decades. I do wish they'd find some purpose elsewhere though and put their considerable energies into doing something more useful than quoting crap online.

I stop going on FB. I don't have any other social media accounts. I understand some are pretty nasty, grim and full of rubbish.

I think though some are really worried and over anxious and some are just annoying. Some follow guidelines and some don't and each group gets mad at the other group. The there is the anti vax loonies... chipping up/great re-set/mind control/sheeple posts OMG don't even venture there

I see Birdie Friend has resurfaced today - spreading gloom and misery to all. It's so irresponsible and I hope the thread gets zapped ASAP.
