To want to go to Markies for picky bits

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 14:15

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

Love picky bitties, that's what I'm going to be calling it from now on. Nom nom...

MrsLuciferMorningstar · 09/01/2021 19:28

People are so mean on here and there’s really no need. All the snobs are making themselves out to sound like real morons. Enjoy your food @Agirlnamedsam

Thislittlekitten · 09/01/2021 19:33

@Agirlnamedsam. I’m from NE Scotland and it’s markies here too and they have the best picky bits. Everyone up here uses the same terminology!

I hope you go and pick out some lovely bits and enjoy them.

Happytentoes · 09/01/2021 19:36

Well I am still going to Markies , and I checked - Ocado have not reached NE Scotland yet, so that’s not an option.

Alonelonelyloner · 09/01/2021 20:10

Picky bits and such likes?

My skin is crawling

Davros · 09/01/2021 20:13

It's Marks & Sparks in All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople. So that's the correct nickname for it. Gavel 🔨

@MysweetAudrina

Could be worse I overheard my dh finishing up a work call with the words okey doodles.

“ This is not just a picky tea..it’s an M&S picky tea”

@Agirlnamedsam

Thanks to all of you who answered the question; whether i was unreasonable to purchase consumables from messrs marks and Spencer’s. On balance I won’t go just in the off chance I catch it (unlikely to spread it as we have all been at home with very little contact with others)

For all of you slagging me off for saying Markies and picky bits: I hope you’re next shite is a hedgehog

Well now you really are being unreasonable... it's a hedgepig!
ClinkyMonkey · 09/01/2021 20:20

I'm so glad I opened this thread. Okey doodles ..... GrinGrinGrin

MrsGrindah · 09/01/2021 20:21

And with “ I hope your next shite is a hedgehog “ you , perhaps unknowingly, complete your MN bingo card!

People call it Markies here but our branch wasn’t open till about 10 years after All the Young Dudes was released. It would have been a 200 mile round trip to Aberdeen to experience the delights of the M & S food hall in those days.

Can’t say I have ever heard of ‘picky bits’ but don’t think OP would have been taking any risk in going. Was there on Monday and it was exceptionally quiet in complete contrast to how mobbed the food department was in the run up to Christmas.

Meowandthen · 09/01/2021 20:25

If there is plenty of food in the house it is not essential. People just thinking of themselves is the problem in the UK. Your risk your family and shop family whenever you go out.
This is not a joke but those don’t take it seriously are the arseholes.
Look up what really happens when someone is on a ventilator.

Hyvsvaar · 09/01/2021 20:28

Your child has been crying for days and you want snacks?
Does he have a temp? Is he eating and drinking okay?
This is worrying

drspouse · 09/01/2021 20:29

Why are you not living on gruel from your home grown oats? Shame on you putting delivery drivers and pickers at risk.

sbhydrogen · 09/01/2021 20:31

I've not read the thread, but for the love of all things holy, PLEASE don't tell me that's short for Marks & Spencer.

onedayiwillmissthis · 09/01/2021 20:31

Markies. Picky bits...vom! Are you 3 years old?

sbhydrogen · 09/01/2021 20:33

The term "picky bits" is an abomination.

Cherrysherbet · 09/01/2021 20:36

Stay the fuck at home. What do you not understand?

Alright. I will tell you it's not short for Marks & Spencer.

It's short for Maplin. OP hadn't realised it's shut (very 2018). Read the thread to see how she copes with the dawning realisation that popping out for a USB 3.0 C to HDMI converter is no longer the cakewalk it once was.

Chimeraforce · 09/01/2021 20:37

Oh no OP you should be self-flagellating and knitting the contents of your compost bin for sustenance otherwise you're just not resilient enough 🤣🤣🤣

I know I complained before, but that was really funny Smile

Oh fuck off. If you bothered your arse to read this thread you would realise that pretty much the whole of Scotland know Marks and Spencer as Markies. But aye, it’s childish.

I know 🤭😁🤭😁
