Washing fitted sheets at 60

ParlezVousWronglais · 06/01/2021 16:29

Fitted sheets I know, not as nice somehow, but they are convenient.
Has anyone had any problems with the elastic being damaged if you wash them at 60°?

I wash bedding on 95° without issue.

Sosigsandwich · 06/01/2021 16:32

Issue to the elastic obviously 🤦

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2021 16:32

Same here.

I thought this thread was going to be about whether 60 is too old to wash fitted sheets.

Confusedcabbage · 06/01/2021 16:58

Why on earth would anyone wash at 95?! Is your washing machine from the 80s?

LawnFever · 06/01/2021 16:58

I wash all bedding at 90

Hopdathelf · 06/01/2021 17:04

Not the point of the thread but I think they’re much nicer than a flat sheet because the elastic stops them moving about.

shouldistop · 06/01/2021 17:05

I wash at 60 (unless someone's been ill) and have never had any issues

Youvegotafriendinme · 06/01/2021 17:08

I wash bedding at 60. Fitted sheets here too and are fine

EspressoExpresso · 06/01/2021 17:08

I wash bedding at 60, our fitted sheets have been on the go since 2013 when we bought our (stupid not quite standard sized mattress). We have 4 sets of bedding, washed weekly, so I reckon that's an average of 91 washes each. They're fine and until now I'd not even considered that they may need to be replaced!

EngineeringFix · 06/01/2021 17:08

No issues.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2021 17:08

I thought you meant at age 60 when I saw the thread title. Time for a nap I think.

Am I dense, why does bedding need to be washed at high temperatures?

40somethingJBJ · 06/01/2021 17:10

Bedding always gets washed at 60 here and never had any problems.

LeSangeEstDansLarbre · 06/01/2021 17:15

We’ve got a stupid sized IKEA bed and so only use their fitted sheets. Our cotton ones have all been fine washed at 60 for the past 8 years, till a couple of weeks ago when the elastic in the oldest one gave up. It’s back on the bed and working quite well now, though, just without its sproing.

dingledongle · 06/01/2021 17:17

ouchmyfeet it is supposed to kill bacteria

I never wash anything above 40 degrees and I have managed to live to fifty with two teenagers and no major illnesses.

90 degrees seems too high it is only me and family that use the bedding and we wash and bathe regularly 😁

pursuedbyablackdog · 06/01/2021 17:17

Wash at 60 and tumble dry. No issues with elastic and my sheets are over five years old....probably older!

Ericaequites · 06/01/2021 17:19

Washing things in hot water kills germs and gets the laundry cleaner. Wool needs to be washed on cold, but everything else is on warm. I do sheets and cotton underwear on high. I’m in the States, and don’t have temperature control on the washer.

dementedpixie · 06/01/2021 17:19

I have never washed at 90⁰C. I do usually wash bedding at 60⁰C. Elastic seems ok. I dont tumble dry though, so if you do then that would be more likely to affect it

Me too!!!.......Blush
rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 17:26

People who say they wash at low temperatures and don’t know what the fuss is about are often the same ones whose clothes have that funky stink and they are oblivious to it.

This ^^
