To think some celeb fans are scary!

After watching a film, I googled the two lead actors (one male, one female...okay okay, it was 50 Shades. Don't judge me!! Blush)

Up came a fan site with posts saying "they would totally be together if it wasn't for his wife!" Shock

AIBU to think that it's a bit scary that people are so invested in film characters that they think the actors ARE them, and should be together in real life?

It made me feel a bit ick for the actors involved.....and for poor Jamie Dornan's wife!

BTS fans are! Worked near a venue where they performed a couple of years ago.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:26

Ooh what did they do, @nosswith?

Ive come across some fan accounts of celebrity children which is so fucking weird

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:28

Yes! I'm this fan site, there were loads of pictures of Jamie Dornan with his kids. I shut it down PDQ. It felt really invasive!

female football fans on tumblr (don’t judge 😂) are worse! they ‘ship’ male footballs together and analyse their every interaction to find ‘proof’ that they’re secretly gay. their girlfriends are trolled and ridiculed for being ‘beards’ and have some truly awful things said about them.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:29

On not I'm (fat fingers through too many pigs in blankets!).

BTS fans there seven hours before the gig, more excitable than young children at Christmas.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:30

@sunshineandshowers21 that's bonkers! Shock I thought the Larry Stylinson loons were uniquely crackers......seemingly not.

I think ‘Stan culture’ can be quite intense. And I think the internet has potentially exacerbated things as it links people together and creates communities - who possibly feed and egg on the hysteria!

I think it’s mostly harmless and escapist fantasy, but I do think it must be totally bizarre for the celebs in question - dealing with intense fans in person must be quite stressful, and I can’t imagine the horror if they find the fan fiction!

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:34

Jeez, I get BTS get pissed off with that malarkey. Don't their fans get that they are just.......people? It's like they become a foil for fans to project their own wants onto, forgetting that the celeb will still do disgusting curry farts, and snore when pissed!

Urgh, yeah, I remember falling down a rabbit hole after a thread on here about crazed Benedict Cumberbatch fans; there were links to whole blogs on Tumblr dedicated to abusing his wife and collecting “evidence” that their marriage is a sham and their children are fake (!)
It was very disturbing.

sunshineandshowers21 · 29/12/2020 19:37

completely bonkers! i joined football tumblr to try and find some female fans to interact with and i couldn’t believe how insane it was. there’s women writing sexually explicit fan fiction about these footballers that have never shown any hint that they are anything more than friends. there’s huge posts with photos and videos that supposedly show that they’re secretly in love. if you say anything to the contrary you’re called homophobic and hounded via anonymous messages.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:38

OMG yes @Sparklesocks. Or even worse, their other halves finding it. It might be quite flattering that these fans fancy your husband or wife, but I bet they are raging when their other half is held up as a pinnacle of wonderment, when you know damn fine he opens new milk when one is already on the go!

I’ve met a crowd of Benedict Cumberbatch fans who’s terrified me to my very core. They draw him routinely, pay thousands to meet him at fan events, consider themselves his friends and are beyond obsessed. They all fit a very specific description and I found it very unsettling.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 29/12/2020 19:40

Ive done security at celebrity events (book/album signings, personal appearances etc) for years. Its frightening how invested some people can be in getting near to their favourite person.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:41

@Mrsfrumble Fake kids!!! That's a whole new level of batshit crazy isn't it? I think that happened to one of the 1D guys didn't it? That must be fucking terrifying if the fans set out to "prove" the child is fake!

@sunshineandshowers21 homophobic and hounded? For pointing out the obvious lunacy? Christ........i don't think I have missed anything by not being on Tumblr! Grin

@Winterwoollies what description (tell me they didn't all brandish those fleece things with his face on, where there are usually 80s style wolves!).

@DeltaAlphaDelta What did the overinvested do? And were the celebs terrified of them?

OP posts:
DeltaAlphaDelta · 29/12/2020 19:55

@SirChing one memorable event, a woman turned up with her daughter rigged up to an oxygen tank, pretending that she was ill so that she could queue jump and get some extra time with the person. She was well known to us but not the organiser who insisted on taking her at face value and believing her.

We also have other regulars who turn up to events in wheelchairs so they can get into the specific wheelchair area, so they are pretty much guaranteed a photo/autograph/handshake.

The celebs usually dont have a clue, so go along with it. Again, we cant say anything and have to play along. Its one of the reasons I rarely work those type of events anymore.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 19:57

@DeltaAlphaDelta FFS! As an occasional wheelchair user, that makes me rage that some people would do that.

Did the celebs not recognise them and back away slowly/get restraining orders?

There are fan accounts for the child of One Direction's former hairdresser.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 29/12/2020 20:01

I’m in a fandom where someone moved from the other side of the world purely to live in the same town as their celeb crush - the celeb isn’t even that famous....🤦🏻‍♀️

SirChing · 29/12/2020 20:01

The child of one of One Direction's former hairdresser????

Is there a fan account for Niall Horan's mam's dog too? That's crazy!

OP posts:
cantthinkofanythingwitty · 29/12/2020 20:01

Norman Reedus has some scary super fans. They were so abusive when his partner was pregnant, some of the things they were saying were vile and super unhinged.

SirChing · 29/12/2020 20:03

@Biscuitsanddoombar Please tell me some bloody good therapists live in that town?

(Which town and which celeb was it, out of sheer nosiness? And did anyone warn the crush recipient that they were being stalked in a very expensive manner?)

OP posts:
BigBadVoodooHat · 29/12/2020 20:05

This is the greatest fact I have ever learned from the internet! Shock
