To think some celeb fans are scary!

After watching a film, I googled the two lead actors (one male, one female...okay okay, it was 50 Shades. Don't judge me!! Blush)

Up came a fan site with posts saying "they would totally be together if it wasn't for his wife!" Shock

AIBU to think that it's a bit scary that people are so invested in film characters that they think the actors ARE them, and should be together in real life?

It made me feel a bit ick for the actors involved.....and for poor Jamie Dornan's wife!

I can imagine that Towie people would be insufferable, but people like Rod Stewart would be total darlings.

Nah, Rod Stewart was arrested this year for punching a hotel security guard for not letting him crash a party.

Sheleg · 29/12/2020 20:51

Why would you not call our fraudulent wheelchair users? Why just let it slide? I don't understand.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 29/12/2020 20:52

Ahhhh I can’t say the celeb because it’s a small fandom so would be outing but everyone in it was 😱😱😱😱🤪🤪🤪🤪

I am genuinely baffled by fans who can’t tell the difference between acting & real life. I mean actors are paid to pretend to be in love, that’s their job.

True, I had forgotten about that in fairness, but he was perfectly pleasant in my dealings with him.

We did call it out, and with proof, however the event organisers/PR people didnt want the aggravation of confronting them and causing a scene. Unfortunately in a lot of these type of events, security doesnt get listened too until the wheels fall off, then its usually a case of "why didn't security say/do anything". Another reason why I dont work these types of events anymore.

I have a weird fascination with those people who are that obsessive and shamefully mildly entertained by the shit they say/do/write, although I appreciate how it can be awful for those celebs involved. I'm interested in the psychology of it and how they can become so absorbed into something that will never be real. It's baffling the lengths some folk will go.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/12/2020 21:04

If you think that’s crazy try having a wonder into indian tv instagrams / twitter threads. The level of batshit craziness is on another level. Some fans even send spouses manipulated photos of their husbands or wives with other celebrities.

MrsWhistledown · 29/12/2020 21:04

Oh god I know someone who is a crazed fan

She's obsessed with an actor and (pre pandemic) would travel all over to see him and hang around outside theatres waiting for him, has a little shrine dedicated to him in her house (she shares photos online as if its normal), shares all kind of posts on social media as if she knows him in real life (so eg let's pretend the actor is called John) "can't wait to see our john perform in edinburgh next month, he's been practicing so hard bless him", and has a photo of a naked man as her screensaver at work with this guys head photoshopped onto the body (the man has his willy out and everything!)

Theres so many creepy, stalkerish comments she makes about his all the time but I don't want to say too much!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/12/2020 21:06

Reading the thread and Eminem's song Stan is playing in my brain.

There are some scary people out there.

iklboo · 29/12/2020 21:08

@DeltaAlphaDelta - oh yes. I reckon it was most likely six of one / half a dozen of the other. For all we know the security guard might have shoved him or his wife & kids.

Emeraldshamrock · 29/12/2020 21:10

Yep some are obsessive.
The abusive trolling ones who leave horrible threats of violation, murder and so on are really messed up and disturbing.
Far more disturbing than a love sick fan.
In fairness I wished Bon Jovi would leave his wife for me many years ago, I'm grateful SM didn't exist then. Grin

Yep, it must be hard enough on the actor's other half to watch their partner in a sex scene with someone else. I would hate it and just wouldn't be able to watch if DP was an actor.

To then have fans think your DP is that character, or wants to be with the actress in real life, must be awful. I bet actors and their DPs stay well away from social media or anything like that, purely to avoid the crazy!

That was perfectly understandable though @Emeraldshamrock JBJ was, and still is, a fucking babe 😂 🙈

SirChing · 29/12/2020 21:13

Ooh I didn't know that about Rod Stewart @iklboo. Ok.....I bet Jason Mamoa is a total darling then. He would just speak GOT language to the security guard and get let in!

Your comment made me go and re-read the articles. Obviously I can only go on the press version, but reading between the lines I think there was more to it then he punched him for no reason (not excusing violence, but putting that aside for the sake of this conversation).

There are also people that will deliberately wind up celebrities, or make something bigger of a relatively non-event to earn a few quid (security wages are crap!). Not saying that was the case in this story, but purely playing devils advocate.

Personally I have dealt with similar, and worse, but never felt the need to involve the Police/press or anyone else outside where I was working 🤷‍♂️

Oh God no! Much as I loved JBJ, I couldn't be with a man whose entire width is approximately the width of my thigh.

I'm friends with some people who are crazy about supernatural....I dipped my toe into the fandom to have a look....they are Batshit crazy !!!!!

SirChing · 29/12/2020 21:18

Agree that RS seems mild mannered in general, and if security were heavy handed with his wife and kids, then who knows? Seems out of character though as the man isn't known for being an arse.

Reading the articles, it suggests his kids were in a separate area and he wasnt allowed in to them. Im not sure many people would be happy being kept away from their children for no discernable reason, but again, I dont the full details.
SirChing · 29/12/2020 21:26

Ah well my DP would not be happy if my DD was stuck in an area and we weren't allowed to get to her. Sounds like a fuck up somewhere along the line. I shall give Rod the benefit of the doubt. The TOWIE lot don't get that though 😂

I was heavily into online fandoms throughout my teens and twenties, and now work behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, and my boyfriend is a somewhat well-known actor. I have SOOOOOO many batshit fan stories.

The most mild are fans who are sweet but their lives clearly revolve around the celeb in question. David Tennant has one fan who waits outside stage door every single night whenever he does a play. She used to have a YouTube channel which was just hundreds of near-identical 2-minute long videos of him coming out of stage door, saying hello, then leaving.

My boyfriend worked with Ben Cumberbatch briefly several years ago, and there's one stan (who honestly comes across as very mentally ill) who bombards him and other people Ben has worked with with daily tweets attacking them for not outing the "fraud" that Ben has perpetrated by pretending to be married with three kids.

My boyfriend has a bunch of fans who show up to everything he does, most of them are harmless and sweet, but one went off the deep end when I entered the picture and started badmouthing me on social media. I later found all kinds of crazy Instagram posts dating back years implying they were dating. Stuff like, a selfie with him from the premiere of a film we both worked on, with a caption claiming she'd been his +1 to the premiere and talking about what a wonderful time she'd had at the after-party. In reality she'd waited outside the cinema where the premiere was held, accosted him to demand a selfie, then fucked off. I was his bloody +1 and I know she never came anywhere near the after-party because I'm the one who planned the party! Another time she showed up at an invite-only event shouting and screaming demanding to be let in. Another time she hung around outside a theatre on press night and stole someone's discarded ticket out of a bin in order to post it on social media so she could lie that she'd been invited. At this point I honestly don't know if she's delusional and does think she's dating him, or if she's just doing it to show off for SM clout.

BloggersBlog · 29/12/2020 21:34

It's the corrie etc fans that send baby clothes when a fictional character has a baby that I find super weird. They must really think its a documentary, not a soap 🤔

1FootInTheRave · 29/12/2020 21:35

A lot of the general public are odd and hard work.

This is another level though.

Absolute fruit loops.

iklboo · 29/12/2020 21:36

I thought MIL was a bit odd referring to soap characters like real people & 'falling out with them'. She's nothing compared to some of these!
