Hunting on Boxing Day

GreyMary23 · 27/12/2020 09:28

I've seen numerous reports about Boxing Day hunts going ahead yesterday. What the fuck? I despise hunting anyway - like most decent/sane people - but to allow it to go ahead when so many are spending Christmas alone due to covid is utterly unbelievable. Before anyone says it's because it's outdoors, so is children's sport yet my dc haven't been able to attend rugby or football training in weeks.

How on Earth was this allowed to happen?

Drag hunting is still legal, so they're not doing anything wrong on that score.

In terms of covid restrictions I understand quite a lot of them had been cancelled. I would guess in non-tier-4 areas it would be a sufficiently socially distanced outdoor activity that it would be ok?

Hopdathelf · 27/12/2020 09:34

Is it only disrespectful if you disagree with it?

Lots of Boxing Day football. Any gripe with that too?

HijabiVenus · 27/12/2020 09:36

Yes drag hunting but obviously everyone who indulges in drag hunting is an ultra rich, middleclass, tory voting. White (all acceptable hate groups). So let the haters begin....

StylishMummy · 27/12/2020 09:36

Anything in T4 has been cancelled & others have gone ahead as they're organised sport outdoors. Hunts on Boxing Day is a centuries old tradition - Why do you hate them so much? Hunts contribute a lot of money to the upkeep of the countryside & most hunts only drag/scent hunt with no harm to animals. YABU

It is pretty shit. I get that it’s outdoors, but outdoor mixing in large numbers still isn’t allowed.

Tara336 · 27/12/2020 09:38

I don’t agree with hunting at all but if it’s been deemed safe they are allowed to do it. It’s not really like they come in close contact with each other

Hopdathelf · 27/12/2020 09:40

It is pretty shit. I get that it’s outdoors, but outdoor mixing in large numbers still isn’t allowed. You’re talking out your arse.

From the .gov.uk website:
In tier 1, 2 and 3 areas, organised outdoor sport is exempt from legal gathering limits and can take place in any number, but modifications to high-risk activities should be made in tier 3 areas.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 27/12/2020 09:41

Safe or not, hunting is despicable. A bunch of posh twats on horseback setting a pack of dogs on a poor fox, to rip it limb from limb for entertainment.

Anyone who agrees with that is as thick as the participants.

That hasn't been legal in quite a few years. You may wish to update your hyperbole.
GreenlandTheMovie · 27/12/2020 09:42

Outdoor sport is permitted if following social distancing rules and any limits on maximum numbers (I think it's 15).

NiceTwin · 27/12/2020 09:42

Rugby and football are contact sports, hunting isn't, so not sure you can really compare them.
As a pp mentioned, they contribute to the upkeep of fencing and the land they hunt.

Nothing to get frothed up about.

Wrong on all counts there. No foxes are ripped limb from limb, it is scent hunting. People from all walks of life go hunting. You don't need to own your own horse, you can hire one that knows the job for the same amount you'd pay for a decent pair of shoes.
dogrilla · 27/12/2020 09:47

And it's not all posh twats - it's people from all sorts of backgrounds. Most horse people I know are anything but posh.

Terracottasaur · 27/12/2020 09:48

@Hopdathelf why so rude?

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 27/12/2020 09:49

posh twats on horseback
I know people who ride to hounds. None of them are twats and most of them aren't posh, either.

Nothing like a bit of class warfare to enliven the festive season.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/12/2020 09:50

Absolutely Brilliant that hunts are on today.

What is your gripe exactly op as they won't be hunting down Mr Fox?

May I assume you have never seen the carnage left after vicarious killing in a chicken coop or what happened to the rabbits the night the hutch was not securely latched.

If anti hunting were all about cruelty to animals I could understand it but it isn't it's largely about class hatred and resentment towards those with land and/or money. Regrettably there is usually zero cognizance of the countryside economy.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 27/12/2020 09:50

Unless you're in denial or as thick as fuck you'll know that the " trail" and " faux" hunting is a cover for real ILLEGAL fox hunting where they chase and terrier men ( thick scumbag Neanderthals paid by the hunt) often dig out the Fox and they all watch whilst the hounds rip the Fox to pieces whilst alive. Often the cunt sorry hunt will cut the tail of the Fox. Smearing blood on participating children's faces seems popular.

All very well documented and thanks to the recently leaked zoom conference and emails ,it's become public knowledge and has revealed a lot about these monsters .

If you hunt you are a low life piece of shit and that is being generous. It it illegal yet the police ignore it because they hunt themselves and are in the hunts pocket if not.

They also treat their horse and hounds terribly. Often abused, left for dead and shot when no longer useful.

Defend the hunt and show everyone what vermin you are.

Bluejeantreefrog · 27/12/2020 09:51

They pretend to be drag hunting for scent trails but usually a fox gets 'in the way' and is 'accidentally' killed by the dogs. That's how they get away with it. Been an incident in someones garden captured on security cameras. Sometimes it's a pet cat. They're cruel bastards.

AnnaMagnani · 27/12/2020 09:53

The hunt round here pretends to be legal but definitely isn't - thankfully cancelled this year.

And it definitely is the posh horse people that hunt locally. No-one else would touch it with a barge pole.

vanillandhoney · 27/12/2020 09:53

Fox hunting may be illegal but let's not pretend that means it doesn't happen.

A hound near here got lost yesterday - why? Because it disappeared on the trail of fox! Hounds are big business in some parts of the country - while on paper they may only be scent or drag hunting, it's not like they'd stop if the hounds caught the scent of a fox and ran after it Grin

vanillandhoney · 27/12/2020 09:54

BTW, the grin wasn't me saying I approve of fox hunting - just to say that it's incredibly naive to think it doesn't happen because it's illegal.

Terracottasaur · 27/12/2020 09:55

May I assume you have never seen the carnage left after vicarious killing in a chicken coop or what happened to the rabbits the night the hutch was not securely latched.

I expect you eat eggs and therefore have no difficulty with chicks being macerated alive on your behalf, but a fox gets into a chicken coop and suddenly it’s fair game to be ripped apart by hounds...

(Also, I shouldn’t have to say this but since MN sees any criticism of hunting as ‘class warfare’, I want to clarify that I grew up on a farm, have lost a whole coop of pet chickens to a fox before, have my own horses and have been on a drag hunt several times in the past. One of those (the last I ever did) resulted in the hideous death of a fox, much to the delight of many participants).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/12/2020 09:57

Ah the boxing day hate fest.

Thick cruel cunts etc etc

And anyone who's has a different opinion is a disgusting prick etc etc

Fucking tiresome!

If you could have half a conversation without all the emotional blackmail you might get somewhere. But all the holier than thou name calling just stops any discussion... Nobody agreed with you, we just can't be added to drag ourselves through all the virtue signalling nastiness you spew!

GCAcademic · 27/12/2020 09:57

The hunt round here definitely hunts foxes. I appreciate that some hunts stick to the law, but not all do.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 27/12/2020 09:58

You've got to be a bit of a twat to enjoy bloodsports.
