Hunting on Boxing Day

GreyMary23 · 27/12/2020 09:28

I've seen numerous reports about Boxing Day hunts going ahead yesterday. What the fuck? I despise hunting anyway - like most decent/sane people - but to allow it to go ahead when so many are spending Christmas alone due to covid is utterly unbelievable. Before anyone says it's because it's outdoors, so is children's sport yet my dc haven't been able to attend rugby or football training in weeks.

How on Earth was this allowed to happen?

Ahhh, @GreenlandTheMovie are you doubting the endless hours of footage or reports that are sent in from every hunt day, up and down the country, from hunts that are out 3/4 times a week?

And your profession is?

Because what some of the wider public might not know is within the hunting fraternity, there are judges and police and MPs and other such influential persons who ride with the hunt or have ears to whisper in.

Not conspiracy, just fact. Google is at your fingertips for names and professions.

The Hunting Act itself has a major loophole to allow illegal hunting to get away with their accidents...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/12/2020 11:57

Greenland the 2 just wasn't my point!!! I found it ludicrous, as I thought my post made clear!

foodlesnoodles · 27/12/2020 11:58

@KarmaNoMore yesterday I stopped counting at 100 for a gathering for a Boxing Day hunt. No masks or social distancing either...

I didn't see my family and haven't for months... but if you hunt, you have this immunity from Covid it seems...

KarmaNoMore · 27/12/2020 11:59

... it must be all the fresh air (sarcastic comment, obviously...)

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/12/2020 12:02

Foodles again, whilst I appreciate that is your experience it isn't mine.

Some of the sabs I have had the misfortune to meet are the most determined, angry, violent people I've ever met. They don't do nice things for nice reasons, they are destructive because they are so certain they have the right of the matter.

I used to be active in some animal rights groups but stopped, even moved away, to disassociate myself, when they started targeting individuals, threatening families, kids, grandparents. I am loathe to use the word but many of the more committed act like terrorists in their zeal!

I'm a lawyer foodiesnoodles. Whats your profession/job?

Is there a problem with lawyers now?

I can and will investigate and report if direct evidence is communicated to me of my local hunt engaging in illegal activities. My moral values just run that way. I know plenty about the supposedly "influential persons" and I very much doubt that any of them would risk being involved in a scandal. And I don't particularly care. If there is wrongdoing, there is wrongdoing and people must abide by the law.

I cannot think why you would refuse such an offer.

Why make these claims if you are unwilling to put any useful information in the public domain?

Which are the names of the two hunts that do not hunt illegally?

foodlesnoodles · 27/12/2020 12:02

@KarmaNoMore 😂 all that scientific research and done village in the north west has cured Covid...

Stompythedinosaur · 27/12/2020 12:02

The Hunting Act isn't fit for purpose. The hunts near us all continue to hunt foxes like they always did. I think it is disgusting.

GreenlandTheMovie · 27/12/2020 12:02

Yes, but it is my point, and I can do something useful here. So just put the names of the two hunts which hunt legally in the public domain, and answer the question.
foodlesnoodles · 27/12/2020 12:03

*some village

Bloody autocorrect

BiggerBoat1 · 27/12/2020 12:03

Depends on the tier. If you're not in tier four I'm guessing its ok.

Again, where was this? As by putting it in the public domain, it makes it far more likely that police will take action and not hide behind this supposed protecting of people.

I assume there is filmed evidence of this too, so presumably you could link it on here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/12/2020 12:05

Greenland I can't tell you because it wasn't something I said! I read it in an earlier post and was referring to it, as being stupid and unlikely to be true!

foodlesnoodles · 27/12/2020 12:07

@GreenlandTheMovie the incident was reported by multiple people and the police attended in a riot van, but tipped short of getting out. They parked up on a grass verge 2 miles from the meet and just observed from there.

I'm sure if you google Boxing Day meet 100 supporters you'll get a few results 😉

Pipandmum · 27/12/2020 12:07

Rugby and footie are contact sports. Hunting is not.

Norah8 · 27/12/2020 12:08

Not boxing day but a couple of months ago we went a country walk a few miles from home.
We got caught up in a fox hunt.
Yes it was a fox and it was one of the more frightening experiences ever.
We found 2 dogs who were lost and crying as they couldn't find the pack.

YesMeLady · 27/12/2020 12:08

How can hunts or shooting be classed as a sport so exempt? Surely you could just ride a horse without being in a hunting group and go for a walk without shooting a pheasant.

Actually no. When I googled that (not that google is a reliable source) I got a variety of sources, some from last year, some enquiring if hunts are going ahead this year, and nothing about 100 supporters gathered in a specific village.

Can you answer the question about which are the only two hunts in the UK which hunt legally?

Don't bother quoting the Hunting Act to me. Funnily enough, I'm trained to read legislation and don't need it kiddysplained to me.

Basecamp65 · 27/12/2020 12:10

The respectable people never do get caught up in the scandals- they ensure their working class terrier men get the blame and pay them well for it.

If the local police blame dog fighters badger baiters etc for the damage caused by the hunt then one gets prosecuted.

If someone allowed drug dealing on their premises they would get prosecuted under conspiracy laws. The laws exist to prosecute hunt leader/ farmers who allow hunting when the law is broken during a hunt by using conspiracy.

THE POLICE CHOOSE/ARE TOLD TO TAKE NO ACTION.

@GreenlandTheMovie the two legal hunts? 🤣

The only legal hunts are drag hunts. They use bloodhounds and not foxhounds. They follow a scent that could never be mixed up with fox.

GreenlandTheMovie · 27/12/2020 12:13

Its "organised sports", so although it can be a fine dividing line, its generally taken to mean groups which have an organising committee, usually with paid membership.

Otherwise, all running groups would be ruled out as well, and we have been able to run in groups of 15 throughout the last few months, although we must disperse immediately on finishing training and not talk to each other in close proximity before we start. A lot of peoples' mental health benefits from it - I know of 3 runners who committed suicide in the early days of lockdown (I digress, but you get the gist).

Honeyroar · 27/12/2020 12:13

I am 100% anti hunting foxes and other live prey. Foxes are beautiful and part of nature. I’ve only had hens killed by a fox once and that’s because we hadn’t repaired a weak part of the fence - that’s my fault, not the fox’s.

I’ve worked with horses. On hunt yards too. I’ve had to go fox hunting a couple of times and hated it. Hated the people. There was a lot of snobbery— I was the groom, so barely worth speaking too. One man actually rode away from me mid sentence when he realised I was the groom. But I’ve been drag hunting and out with the bloodhounds many times and loved it. The older drag hunts wouldn’t hunt a fox, but I wouldn’t trust some of the newer drag hunts that used to be fox hunts.

As for the hunts doing a lot of good for the countryside! Where?? They’ve come across our land a few times and perhaps repaired a fence they’d broken, but that’s it. We have had the local foot hound pack stray onto our land without permission several times - every time we’ve told them off, but they still disregard our wishes if the hounds are on a scent. They don’t have the skill to call them off. I wouldn’t let my cats out on days I can hear the horn.

That photo could be taken from any year! Theres not a face mask in sight, which seems unlikely for this year...
laudemio · 27/12/2020 12:16

Its pretty socially distanced and outdoors so I don't see the issue tbh.
