Phrases you’d like to ban

I’ll start

Support bubble.

I’ll happily go the rest of my life never hearing this phrase. In fact even the word bubble has exceeded its usage quota for the entire rest of time.

What is yours?

The use of the phrase 'friendly reminder' or 'gentle reminder' to preface some performatively woke nonsense - twitter is especially bad for this. Don't patronise me, just say what you want to say.

PussyMalanga · 24/12/2020 16:16

Little man. I always picture not a baby or toddler, but a tiny gnarled homunculus, fully formed but grotesque.

warmandtoasty2day · 24/12/2020 16:28

grunt work - ffs ! you have a problem if you are grunting when you are working.

warmandtoasty2day · 24/12/2020 16:32

super, odfod !

Northernmummy80 · 24/12/2020 16:34

Fair enough

No idea why but it annoys the hell out of me when people say it in conversation.

Frestba · 24/12/2020 16:37

Packs a punch
Government deals

elenacampana · 24/12/2020 16:39

I really hate it when people say ‘due to’ - no idea why!

Unprecedented and tier can also go and jump in the lake.

Not forgetting Brexit either!

saraclara · 24/12/2020 16:41

...But that's just me.

I nearly OPd in aibu about this one today. Always said at the end of a smugger than smug post, and means 'I know I'm better than you, and now so do you'

Hurtandupset2 · 24/12/2020 16:42

@purplemunkey, the funniest ( ironic, sarcastic) response to that would've been..I was going to post exactly that....Are you me? 🤣

ddl1 · 24/12/2020 16:44

Little man. I always picture not a baby or toddler, but a tiny gnarled homunculus, fully formed but grotesque.

To me, it means fairies - and a tough rather than tinselly variety. As a kid, I learned a poem about fairies with the lines 'We dare not go a-hunting/ For fear of little men', and it's stuck with me.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 24/12/2020 16:44

With all due respect...(here comes an insult)

I'm not being rude but...(yes, you are)

I'm not being funny, (you are right, it's not the least bit funny)

purplemunkey · 24/12/2020 16:46
**@purplemunkey, the funniest ( ironic, sarcastic) response to that would've been..I was going to post exactly that....Are you me? 🤣
But then I would have annoyed even myself...

TuxedoPanther · 24/12/2020 16:46

Food of the gods.

Boak.

ChwistmasTwee · 24/12/2020 16:48

Bubble up

Basically all the phrases of 2020 can fuck off

Floridana · 24/12/2020 16:51

When people use the 'spot' for a specific place. As in 'a parking spot'. Vile.

SteeperThanHell · 24/12/2020 16:51

Anything that refers to me as a “reader”.

“And that Dear Reader was me”

“Dear Reader, I left him”

Stasi - anyone who uses it had no idea what it really means.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 24/12/2020 17:00

"The science" said by anyone who has apparently not even got a high school understanding of basic science.
"The science has changed" -- NO IT BLOODY HASN'T!
"We're following the science" -- What science? Which studies? By whom? Published where? Peer reviewed when?

SailorKerry · 24/12/2020 17:08

@warmandtoasty2day

grunt work - ffs ! you have a problem if you are grunting when you are working.
That's not what it means though, is it? A grunt is like a low ranking worker/soldier, so they get given the shit jobs to do, hence grunt work - doing the shitty work higher up don't want or have to do. No grunting involved.
FestiveFruitloop · 24/12/2020 17:33

If you have trouble conceiving I think I may know why

So that's what's been going wrong all these years! Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 24/12/2020 17:39

@Northernmummy80

Fair enough

No idea why but it annoys the hell out of me when people say it in conversation.

"Fair enough" is the biggest conversation killer, I hate it too!
Newwayofthinking · 24/12/2020 17:41

TWAW
That one can go fuck....

FreshFreesias · 24/12/2020 17:46

I never want to hear the word ‘bubble’. It’s so patronising.

nokidshere · 24/12/2020 17:46

Not much bothers me really except for the word 'super' that seems to have become very overused.

'Im super excited'
'It's super exciting'
'I'm super happy'

Xmas Angry
fuzzymoon · 24/12/2020 18:19

Journey and roller coaster when used to describe an experience in your life or to describe emotions.

NoraEphronsTurkeyNeck · 24/12/2020 19:21

@Signaturesoftheworkers

Isolating 🤐
I don't mind 'isolating' but I cannot stand 'self-isolating'. Is there any other way?
