I’ll start

Support bubble.

I’ll happily go the rest of my life never hearing this phrase. In fact even the word bubble has exceeded its usage quota for the entire rest of time.

What is yours?

My DC are always saying "searched up" 😬

No, you search for, or research - you never, ever search up 😫

Abitofalark · 24/12/2020 19:28

'If you would sign here for me' makes me bristle.' FOR ME. You want me to sign it for you?
UP as in 'we parked up'. Oh and 'fry up' some onions. Who is the chef who is notorious for the 'up' with everything? 'Slice up' etc.
Are people roasting up the turkey tomorrow?
'Uptick'. What? You mean rise or increase? And 'ticking up'. Even worse.
And 'the optics'. You mean 'It looks bad'? Just say that, then.

ivfbabymomma1 · 24/12/2020 19:36

"So I turned round and said" what so you literally turned and faced the other way?!

Jackabobbo · 24/12/2020 21:02

Most of these, but "so she turned around and said" doesn't bother me.

I really don't like the word "covid", for two reasons:

  1. Everyone used to call it "the coronavirus" or "coronavirus" or just "corona", and then one day everyone switched to "covid" and it felt like a conspiracy. My conspiracy theory was confirmed when I heard a newsreader start to say "coronavi-" and then stop, and correct himself to "covid". I'm only half joking too. It was weird how everyone suddenly started to call it covid.
  1. It's a hard sounding word and I don't like the sound of it.

I always enjoy these threads. I get annoyed by so many things. It's when a certain word or phrase gets overused that I start to be bothered by it. Like everything woke people say, and the word "woke" too.

Touch base
'Call you/someone out' on something...does my head in.
Moving forward..
'Come again' when someone misheard

PizzaForOne · 24/12/2020 22:28

Yes when other people do it for you. Isolating in a medical sense would usually mean staff at a hospital have isolated you. Self isolating means... DIY isolation

OrigamiOwl · 24/12/2020 23:45

"boobing the baby" - it makes it sound like you're just randomly hitting your baby with your tit.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 25/12/2020 00:02

Any thread title that starts with “help!” Or “handhold please”

Shitshow is the one that gets me at the moment. I’ve made a pact with myself that once I read it on a thread, I come off of it. It’s definitely reducing my time on MN at the moment!

shinynewapple2020 · 25/12/2020 00:28

Makes my teeth itch
Makes me want to gouge my eyes out
Wow. Just wow.
ODFOD
Dear reader
Every. Single. Time

All very popular on MN !

AdultHumanFemale · 25/12/2020 01:46

"So" when used to start a sentence: "So my SIL brought my niece around on Tuesday". WTF!? "So" what?
To use "text" as a verb in the past tense: "Last night, SIL text me to say she was ill. I text her back to commiserate." It sounds all kinds of wrong.

I’m so with you!!

That's because corona virus is any respiratory infection, every cold you catch is a corona virus. Covid-19 is a novel corona virus discovered in 2019. Initially it was known as corona but scientists came up with a proper name for it.

"Boys will be boys" bollocks!.stop excusing behaviour because of gender stereotypes

KarenMarlow3 · 25/12/2020 11:54

The phrase 'don't get me wrong' irritates me. Why can't people say, 'please don't misunderstand me.'

KatherineJaneway · 25/12/2020 12:33

Give your head a wobble

Wtf Xmas Hmm

ShakinScarecrow · 25/12/2020 13:40

It's not social distancing it's physical distancing. Scotland have got it right. Even the WHO recommended use of the latter.

The suffix 'up' - it's parked, not parked up.

Everything happens for a reason. I mean yeah, everything happens because of something that occurred prior. But that's not what people who say this mean, it's a trite platitude, trotted out if someone doesn't get a job or something. They wouldn't be saying this to a bereaved person.

Hate reach out or touch base in office-speak. Touch base sounds positively indecent! Xmas Grin

AlternativeCarpark · 25/12/2020 16:16

Anything described as 'robust', especially by politicians. Used to try and convince people that what is being described was done from a position of honesty and won't completely fall apart if put under the slightest scrutiny.

'Cheeky' as in drinks or Nandos. Anyone who uses the word in this way needs help (or banishing from one's life).

Alys20 · 25/12/2020 18:25

"Reaching out" I avoid people who say or write this.

"stay safe" odfo.

The worst is "to be fair" that some people use constantly as a generic pointless filler: "To be fair, it's a nice day" etc.
