Just that really. I like her. I like how she gives so much for charity and how she put Trump in his place, but I know people's views on her have changed. Something to do with trans comments?? Can someone explain (in really simple language!) what happened? Thank you!

Anyone who knows trans men and women in the real world, particularly younger people, is not such a fan.

The right wing press has adopted the GC line. The left wing press is more supportive of trans rights.

Alternatively, the right wing press has adopted the women’s rights line, the left wing press is more anti-women.

As an example, a woman wrote an article in a left wing publication about how women should have the right to organise and discuss women’s rights, then 338 people who work at that left wing publication complained about a woman writing about women’s rights.

I don't think age matters much at all really. But some do seem to wish to pretend its 'young enlightned people' V 'old, bigoted terfs' or whatever I ted to see a mix of opinions across all age groups, but of course have ever done a study or whatever.

Lack of critical thinking, inability to read JKR’s essay, inability to link to any actual examples of transphobia, inability to answer any of the huge list of unanswered questions...people of all ages are guilty, it’s not a young person vs old person thing. Many people and posters who seem to be experienced in life still can’t answer.

It only really matters when children are told lies by adults who should know better.

I find that line or argument/insinuation weird really. Maybe this is because I spend a fair bit of time with teenagers, who are very outspoken on all their opinions, so I found out that DSS college friends are 'terfs', or would be if they were female (I know its claimed its a neutral word, bla bla but its not) a year or so back. They are male though, so don't get much shit for it!

I guess its easier, to pretend its just older people who have 'old fashioned views' so they don't matter, or whatever for some, but it really does not seem that way to me.

For some people it's transphobic, that tweet is the direct quote. For others it isn't, they want more evidence of transphobia. Jk wrote her defence of her position - for some a "doubling down" on what they perceived as a transphobic tweet in the first place. Therefore for those people, more transphobia. For others the essay represents a vindication, they're satisfied further that she is not transphobic. Her statements of support for the trans community ring true for her supporters, for those on the other side they sound like "I'm not transphobic BUT". Still each camp feels like they are "right".

I agree. I know a couple of transmen who have been upset by her statements and a lot of what she has said since just makes it worse. I'm sure that they could come on here and explain exactly what she said that they feel is transphobic but why would they want to, given the GC bias on here.

I always find it intriguing too, Quaagars how you don’t seem to venture on the threads about puberty blockers to defend that part of the ideology, another one of JKR’s concerns. Is that because it’s indefensible?

Im 35. So youngish.
Some days i feel about 18 and other days my aches, pains and terven bitterness make me feel 80.
The person ive come up against most about this issue in real life is nearly twice my age and a safegaurding lead in a school.

I dont think age is that much of a factor.
I went to a women's place meeting and was one of the youngest women there, the younger had been brought by their mothers, I took my mum with me.
I said at the time I think its privilege.
Ive been a single mother since I was 24
These issues have been important and had an impact on my life.
My cousins that age are just finishing masters degrees, working up in grad programmes.
Its a different world to the one i got.
They wont get it til they have kids. Which might not be until late 30s early 40s.

I love JK Rowling. It should never be wrong to say what a biological woman is and only people born as a woman can say they are a woman. If you have, or have ever had, a penis, then you have no clue about what it's like growing up as a girl and should not be in female only spaces ever.
