To ask about JK Rowling - can someone tell me what happened?

Just that really. I like her. I like how she gives so much for charity and how she put Trump in his place, but I know people's views on her have changed. Something to do with trans comments?? Can someone explain (in really simple language!) what happened? Thank you!

@Quaagars

I think it's irrelevant the age anyway, as anyone under 18 is considered a child.

Yes

Just.... right.
I mean, any other threads apart from these types - you would be absolutely fine with a 14 year old and a 17 year old sending dick pics?
(For example?)
They're only kids?!
I'm really hoping you don't think that's OK, and it's just a chinny reckon tied yourself up in knots moment, as every other post I've seen of yours you don't strike me as someone who is fine with dick pics being sent by 17 year olds, or anyone for that matter

Where did they say it was fine please?
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/12/2020 21:01

It is the case that children of fourteen send each other dick pics, apparently not aware that whilst wrong, and even illegal, it may also have consequences well beyond a smacked wrist for them: being on the sexual offenders' register may for instance mean that they are debarred from a profession they had hoped to follow.

We are saying that it is sad, not that we think it is fine.

I am sure that your children know that sending dick pics is wrong, Quaagars. Whether that will stop them doing it is quite another matter; some parents' miserable statements about their erring children are heart-rending, along the lines of "I always told him/her..." And the knowledge that Mother thought it was wrong really doesn't stop children from ignoring parental advice: never has, never will. they try drink, and drugs, and sex, and all sorts of things they have been told not to: testing the boundaries and ignoring what parents say is part of growing up.

If you think that you know everything your children get up to when they are not actually in your presence, I fear you may at some point have to face the unhappy realisation that you have been mistaken.

(I mean, come on: did you really follow every dictum of your parents'? Really? all of them? I don't believe it, but maybe you think it is true.)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/12/2020 21:01

Let's just reiterate that I am referring directly to the OP's question.

JK Rowling was sent thousands of violent threats, including rape threats via Twitter and other social media because she believes biological sex exists, and that you can't change the one you're born into.

Quaagars · 26/12/2020 21:03

Even Quagaars?
I've always been consistent in saying that I have never, ever, condoned any type of violence and think people are entitled to their views and shouldn't be threatened for them doesn't mean you can't be challenged on them though
You having a seeming about turn and thinking it's OK to send dick pics at late teen age, they're just kids, that surprises me and I thought I'd seen it all on these threads.

Thewithesarehere · 26/12/2020 21:04

Please explain why you are asking me this question? It doesn't seem to have any relevance to anything I have said
Problem is @Belladonna12 that you are not seeing the link between a case that takes Rowling harassers to court and death threats. What eveyone is trying to ask you is this: which side of the court do you see yourself standing in when a case like this reaches the court?
There will be only two sides mind! And just like Depp’s case, a Pandora box will be opened.

iguanadonna · 26/12/2020 21:07

We're nearly 800 posts in and we still don't have a single example of JK Rowling saying anything transphobic. Or being bad in any way at all.

What we've got is this essay she wrote:

www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/

No one is willing to even try to explain why this or anything else the most successful female author of all time has written is transphobic. All we've heard is assertion followed by guff and bluster.

Belladonna12 · 26/12/2020 21:08

Your refusal to condemn the violent threats and sending of pornographic images explicitly and your aggressive, deflective bluster because you can't possibly concede anything is interesting.

You are being totally ridiculous now. Nobody has said it is okay to send violent threats.

It is a criminal offence to send death threats and nothing to do with the libel which is what we were discussing.

You pretty much covered it. I'm a bit bored of 'her' tediousness tbh.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/12/2020 21:12

On JKR lines, you must condemn them at this point or stand accused of being a violent pornographer.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/12/2020 21:13

I'd like to speak to all the people reading o making vague arguments and sniping at feminists who think trans women are women etc etc. If you don't think you want to argue that case because there are lots of people here who don't share your view, ask yourself why it's so difficult. I will argue mine until the end of time. Until it's illegal to do so in a public forum and I get into trouble. Why, if it's so important, can't you? Think of the lurkers!

Quaagars · 26/12/2020 21:15

People can read and make their own mind up, thanks for the link, at least people who haven't read it before can now.

Is it really? It seems to be rather selectively applied.

InterfectoremVulpes · 26/12/2020 21:17

If kids sending dick pics to other kids the same age is bad then what does that make multiple adults sending dick pics to kids? 🤔

but people have fingers in ears to what you and others, are saying,

Because none of you has offered one iota of actual evidence

Quaagars · 26/12/2020 21:18

"Her?"
I'm actually lolling, why have I been put in brackets as a "her"
Is this an attempt at alert, alert, must be a man! as they're disagreeing Grin
These threads never deviate lol

littlbrowndog · 26/12/2020 21:18

But to call someone transphobic without any evidence would it be considered libellous.

I certainly have not seen any evidence of JK being transphobic laid out here explicitly by any poster here.

For that to be evidence in this thread a poster would have to say. JK wrote this and it was transphobic ?

If a poster really believed this then they would have no problem writing the words on this thread ?
