Stuck in Dover

No AIBU. Just stuck in my car in gridlocked Dover with a two year old. Only about two minutes from home. Been here half an hour now. Lots of traffic building up behind me. Plenty of people turning around. Anyone fancy keeping me company?

Oh god how awful op!

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 10:17

I am SO sorry. I hope you have the radio.

crankysaurus · 23/12/2020 10:17

Must really be quite a headache down there. Hope you're not stuck for too long.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 10:18

Only managing to inch forward when someone in front gets cold feet and turns around. I didn't even want to go out but I ran out of meds and had to pick my prescription up. The two year old is starting to get frustrated. Hoping I don't need a pee any time soon.

Oh no. How is your 2 year old managing? If its walkable to home and someone is there, can they come and collect your little one?
Fingers crossed you get moving soon.

letsmakethetea · 23/12/2020 10:18

What a nightmare! Can you dump the car and walk home?

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 10:18

Lots of cheery christmas songs on the radio.

Oh god that sounds awful! What a mess we're in!

Hope the two year old is in nappies and not going to need a wee too!

Ingleduh · 23/12/2020 10:20

If your only 2 minutes from home is there anyone who can walk to you and take the little one? Might be easier for you, then reframe the wait as some unexpected alone time and read/scroll on your phone for a bit.

FrankskinnerscRoc · 23/12/2020 10:21

For the benefit of the 2 year old 🎼 The wheels on the bus 🎶 go round & round 🎵

crankysaurus · 23/12/2020 10:24

Our eldest didn't travel well at that age, we made up soon many extra verses to The Wheels on the Bus. I get flashbacks of it once in a while.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 23/12/2020 10:26

Park up and walk home if you can. Go get car later on.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 10:27

Found a creme egg in the car. Bribing the two year old with that.

Absolutely chucking it down now too. My DH is working the other side of Dover. He's supposed to be coming home at 2pm to watch DS as I have an appointment. Not sure he'll be able to get back either.

Hope you have wipes for the melty chocolate Smile

nosswith · 23/12/2020 10:34

Hope you are a Remainer, if not no sympathy. Agree about the wipes. Nearly time for Fairytale of New York I think.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 10:34

Update: creme egg was a mistake

You poor soul what a rotten situation

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 10:39

People getting angry and driving down the wrong side of the road to avoid the traffic. Other people getting out to photograph the queues.

tenlittlecygnets · 23/12/2020 10:42

What did you go out for, op?

Hope you get home soon.

ssd · 23/12/2020 10:42

Try and stay calm. Hopefully you will get home soon. Does LO have a drink x

Wishitsnows · 23/12/2020 10:43

If you are 2 minutes from home why don't you park or turn around and go home rather than adding to the traffic?

InTheDrunkTank · 23/12/2020 10:44

TO be fair if everyone abandons their cars and walks home surely that will make the traffic far, far worse.
