Stuck in Dover

No AIBU. Just stuck in my car in gridlocked Dover with a two year old. Only about two minutes from home. Been here half an hour now. Lots of traffic building up behind me. Plenty of people turning around. Anyone fancy keeping me company?

God I'm so sorry. I got stuck in a 45 minute queue with my 2 year old back at the end of summer, and on balance, sticking forks in my eyes would have been a pleasanter experience.

I ended up letting toddler out of her seat to sit up in the front seat and wave out the window. We weren't moving at all at that point though

SpamIAm · 23/12/2020 10:45

She's trying to go home wish

Onedropbeat · 23/12/2020 10:48

Hope you get home soon op

Stuck in traffic even for a short while with a toddler is no fun

ApolloandDaphne · 23/12/2020 10:50

Sounds horrific. I hope it gets moving soon and you get home.

rollinggreenhills · 23/12/2020 11:00

Hope you are a Remainer, if not no sympathy

Biscuit

In case you hadn't noticed, the situation in Dover at the moment has nothing whatever to do with that, and what an unnecessarily unkind comment anyway. Makes you feel big, does it, making snide comments at innocent posters?

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 11:03

Well, that's over an hour now. We've got Rihanna on the radio now. Might be time to change the station.

I saw this at 8am this morning. "At this point no buses are operating in Dover" "Cars travelling the wrong way along the dual carriageway"

It sounds utterly mental.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 11:06

Nursery Rhymes it is. Starting with Five little monkeys jumping on the bed. Good times.

noelgiraffe · 23/12/2020 11:06

Are you on your way out or your way home?

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 11:07

Update: I need a wee.

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2020 11:08

I've just been reading the BBC live feed and Kent Online about the situation.

Apparently all hell has broken loose.

www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/news/drivers-clash-with-police-at-port-239735/

www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/news/we-are-unable-to-operate-239737/

It sounds like a complete nightmare and won't be resolved any time soon.

Good luck OP. Thinking of you.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 23/12/2020 11:08

@noelgiraffe

Are you on your way out or your way home?
I didn't even want to go out but I ran out of meds and had to pick my prescription up.

Does no one read the thread? There aren't even that many comments to read to be able to figure it out 🙄

noelgiraffe · 23/12/2020 11:09

Yes, I read that, Moly and it doesn't answer if she is on her way out or way home. As in, does she have the needed meds or not?

Merry Christmas.

MolyHolyGuacamole · 23/12/2020 11:11

The use of tense is helpful. I 'had' to go out, not 'have'.
DappledThings · 23/12/2020 11:12

It is all insane round here. We had a medical appointment in Hythe earlier and had to cross the roundabout that leads to the tunnel. Police managing it but our exit was blocked because a lorry driver had got out to remonstrate with him. Tensions feel high.

StanfordPines · 23/12/2020 11:13

I feel your pain.
In our town there is a bridge taking all the traffic from a major A road across the river. If the bridge shuts in high winds or due to an accident all traffic is sent through the town.

If the bridge is shut everyone will text friend etc to warn them. Luckily I can now get to work through back roads etc so it doesn’t effect me to much but I’ve been stuck for two hours trying to drive a mile or so.
In the past I have walked into town when the bridge was shut, had a coffee and come home past the same cars.
This happens 4 or 5 times a year.

Given you are so close to home do you have any friends who could pop out with a snack or drinks?

peboh · 23/12/2020 11:14

Oh that's so horrible. I've once been stuck in traffic for 3 hours with dd at 1, and it was a nightmare. I really hope you're not stuck for much longer op and can get home soon!

noelgiraffe · 23/12/2020 11:14

Given that Dover has been gridlocked all morning, a clear run to the chemist and a standstill on the way back isn't the conclusion I would have leapt to.

But y'know, your sunny personality shines through.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 11:15

Just to clarify, I'm trying to get home.

OP posts:
Justiceisblind · 23/12/2020 11:16

may I interject to object pointlessly to the use of "meds" instead of "prescription" or "medicine"?

bettxmascake · 23/12/2020 11:16

I hope you aren't stuck for long. Having spent 4 hours with a 4 month old stuck on the Reading ring road one summer when only being 5 minutes from home I feel your pain.

Justiceisblind · 23/12/2020 11:16

OP has "Driving Home for Christmas" come on to the radio yet?

noelgiraffe · 23/12/2020 11:17

Anywhere you can park up and just walk home?

RedToothBrush · 23/12/2020 11:17

A least one lorry driver arrested now.

I doubt you will be home for 2pm OP.

XmasGridlock · 23/12/2020 11:18

@Justiceisblind you certainly may.
