So after seeing Pence getting his jab yesterday (and acting like he has always had the health of the US population as his main concern) it got me wondering... Pence is unemployed come January 20th and before being VP he was governor of Indiana but will have no political position to go back to. If he plans to run in 2024 what does he do to keep relevant and get $$? Trump is siphoning off all the monies raised for their new-old re-re-election...

At what point do these threads become Biden ## rather than Trump ##?

Anyone else catch Dead Ringers on R4 last night? (It’s an intermittently funny BBC radio sketch show by impressionists, for our non-UK posters.) I thought their take on Biden/Harris last night was depressingly ageist, sexist and unimaginative. Biden was presented as a bumbling, confused oldie being led by the nose by an unpleasantly ambitious, self-aggrandising Harris, who was portrayed as the real brains of the operation. Ugh. Biden is an experienced, accomplished statesman and Harris is an impressive, accomplished woman in her own right. Why shouldn’t she be ambitious? Rank sexism. Anyway, to me it seems to miss the mark because they work as such an effective team, a real tour de force.

Indeed it does. Are we in a post-satire world as well as a post truth one? DH has just cracked up again about the Four Seasons landscaping debacle after I read the last few posts out to him. He says it will be hard to satirise the Trump years without going completely meta.

I agree about Dead Ringers, which has moments of brilliance (I love the National Treasures) but which is depressingly ageist, as are many comedians, I think. My take on it is that comedians see themselves as edgy, nonconformist and most importantly youthful, so are particularly resistant to the idea of ageing and mortality, and therefore despise those who are older and wiser than themselves.
I may be biased due to having a few younger acquaintances and relatives who think they’re very clever and amusing (they’re not).

So many times over the last four years or so when we really haven't been able to tell if something is satirical or not. And actually, so many times when what certainly looked like satire really wasn't.

I did also wonder about the # and when we could switch to Biden. Maybe when the new President waves at us from behind the desk in the Oval Office?

Oh yes... there has been many many tweets that I have had to check whether it was one of the Trump parody accounts. Then finding it wasn't satire but him coming out with stuff. Incredible.
