I have my eye on a car. I like everything about it except the number plate:

FF69 XSP

(Imagine here that my name really is FlipFlopping, so the FF is my initials. Actually my name is something else but the letters are my initials, if you see what I mean, so if I were called Mary Brown it would be MB69 XSP)

I am slightly worried that people will think I have a personalised number plate with my initials followed by 69.

Please reassure me that I am worrying over nothing.

Vote YABU if you think the number plate is fine.
Vote YANBU if you think everyone will assume I've basically put my sex life on my number plate.

Change it!

TeddyBeans · 07/12/2020 13:41

I don't know how many millions of cars will have a 69 plate but there will be a lot. Noone will bat an eyelid OP

PizzaForOne · 07/12/2020 13:41

Even if they think its personalised, why do you care?

They may ask you, and you just say no its a coincidence. The 69 is clearly just the year, it will be a modern car so ties into that. It's not like you've bought a 69 plate and stuck it on your 10 year old car.

Meowchickameowmeow · 07/12/2020 13:43

How many people are genuinely going to have the slightest bit of interest in your number plate? I wouldn't have thought it's many. Most adults can see the number 69 without automatically connecting it to a sex act.

PizzaForOne · 07/12/2020 13:43

P.s. I have a 69 plate, but not with letters that match my name. Even if they did by coincidence, I would honestly not expect anyone to think I've customised it with regards to my sex life Confused they may notice and only think i've customised to my initials.

rbe78 · 07/12/2020 13:43

I had a car rego once that started BJ69...

Zilla1 · 07/12/2020 13:44

There will be millions? of cars in the UK with a 69 plate so in this case, I think you may be over-thinking it. I would look askance at a 'non-age' initial plate with the same numbers - for your FF and MB examples, FF69 or MB69 would seem odd to me or even if there were the letters available to make FF69 SEX but not the routine car age plate with the routine, random, full alpha numeric.

SwedishEdith · 07/12/2020 13:44

I'd be worried someone had thought I had a personalised number plate at all. I saw a MR5 [Name of husband] one yesterday. That was bad.

flipflopping · 07/12/2020 13:46

Thanks, all. I suspect I have the mind of a 14yo boy in the body of a 44yo woman Grin

So funny OP Grin I personally probably would have a snigger but wouldn't assume it was done deliberately. This reminds me of my boss giving me a car park permit and it was for spot 69 and I said Oh that's easy to remember' BlushGrinXmas Blush He just looked at me.

BexR · 07/12/2020 13:49

Haha! Does the SP stand for SEX PARTY.

hoicks bosom and purses lips

helloxhristmas · 07/12/2020 13:51

The only one is someone near me who has MY L0V5R

GoldfishBoo · 07/12/2020 13:52

I drove around in a car for nearly a decade where there was a clear anagram of PENIS in the unpersonalised registration and didn't notice. I am cringe in embarrassment at every possible moment thinking about it, so I would not do this FF.

YABU my old plate pretty much said lesbo, I dont think any one thought it was deliberate but do you really care if people do think that? People who dont know you wont know your name, so it's just a 69 reg car, nothing unique about that. And people who do know you will surely know you're not the type of person to buy a plate with your initials and 69 on it if you're so worried about it. I have never looked at anyones reg plate tbh.

VinylDetective · 07/12/2020 13:54

My car’s got a 69 plate 🤷‍♀️

LindaEllen · 07/12/2020 13:56

@rbe78

I had a car rego once that started BJ69...
It is literally my aim in life to find the car with that start, and then my initials as the last 3 letters.

Whatever car that turns out to be, I'll buy it!

Lochroy · 07/12/2020 13:56

@SimonJT

That number plate/vehicle reg doesn’t exist in the DVLA database.

OP used example initials...

JollyJingleJemima · 07/12/2020 13:57

Op didn’t say they were the correct initials.
DappledThings · 07/12/2020 13:57

Realistically how often is anyone who knows you going to be looking at your number plate in order to make a connection? I can't say I've ever noticed a single digit of the number plates of any of my friends.

I've noticed proper personalised ones occasionally when in front of me on the road but I tend not to be following my friends and this one isn't a personalised one anyway so unlikely to catch anyone's eye.

SimonJT · 07/12/2020 13:57

@Lochroy Oh, I did think it was a bit risky posting your actual numberplate, especially as FF would also place OP in Nottinghamshire.

I’ll read properly next time Blush

sanityisamyth · 07/12/2020 13:58

I wanted a 69 plate car for precisely that reason 🤣

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 07/12/2020 14:00

I was born in '69

I'm used to it being attached to my name.
There will be a LOT of cars with '69 plates.

I think very few very few people who notice it's your initials, fewer still who think in the year of '69 plates that will think you've got a personalised plate.

I really wouldn't worry about it, if the car is otherwise right for you!

Besides '69 is a good thing! 🤣

Mylittleturkeysandwich · 07/12/2020 14:00

69 plates are pretty common so no I don't think anyone would necessarily make the assumption and if they did well I'd have a giggle but say nothing else.

Also @SimonJT my car was registered in Merseyside but I don't live anywhere near there. It made its way up to Scotland before I bought it.

Athers666 · 07/12/2020 14:02

Ha ha. The OP never claimed that it does.
