To be bothered by this car's registration?

I have my eye on a car. I like everything about it except the number plate:

FF69 XSP

(Imagine here that my name really is FlipFlopping, so the FF is my initials. Actually my name is something else but the letters are my initials, if you see what I mean, so if I were called Mary Brown it would be MB69 XSP)

I am slightly worried that people will think I have a personalised number plate with my initials followed by 69.

Please reassure me that I am worrying over nothing.

Vote YABU if you think the number plate is fine.
Vote YANBU if you think everyone will assume I've basically put my sex life on my number plate.

OP posts:
arggghhhhh · 07/12/2020 14:40

I would think it would be your date of birth.

JanetPudding · 07/12/2020 14:40

My brother got his new lease car... registration plate BJ69... and the last three letters are a near miss for something else you don't want on your car! Only two years left to go...

whynotwhen · 07/12/2020 14:43

I have a 69 plate, apart from some Inbetweeners style winking and elbowing my Dh who didn't even make the connection it's been pretty uneventful.

My DSis lives abroad and has BJ6969 in some form on hers, she's mortified! Grin

At least you aren’t L84NL!

The world seems divided into people who notice number plates and those who don't. But MN tends to have more of the latter than the former.
Since I do notice number plates, I'd notice your's OP Grin If you really like the car why not pick up a cheap personalised number plate and then you can remove the 69 one?

TheQueef · 07/12/2020 14:51

I have a private plate that implies a completely different name to mine. Once I was pulled over and the officer said Sue I presume? (example name before I get fact checked) I felt a right berk explaining that I just kept it because it's easy to remember.
All my cars have had the same reg.

DumplingsAndStew · 07/12/2020 14:52

Heres where a bunch of posters claim they've got local cars with specific plates, other posters search the DVLA site and call them liars 😁

Changi · 07/12/2020 14:52

Somebody with 'LG0PNR' just had it cancelled.

soughsigh · 07/12/2020 14:55

I notice number plates and if you knew you, it would probably make me snigger. And wonder if it was personalized.

That being said, I'm not sure it would be enough to put me off buying the car if I was in the same situation.

LuckyNumberThirteen · 07/12/2020 14:57

My brother is actively seeking a BJ69 because he's still a child...

Pinkfreesias · 07/12/2020 14:59

My husband always, always points out 69 plates and smirks. They never quite grow up do they! Consequently, I was keen for my car to arrive in time to be a 19 plate instead of 69. Hmm

fatkitchen · 07/12/2020 14:59

I can't believe somebody actually looked up the registration Confused

It wouldn't bother me op

Ahh, there was me thinking you were one of those people who got a shiny new car every year Grin

DahliaMacNamara · 07/12/2020 15:25

I've never thought about it, but we have a 69 plate, and the letters surrounding it make it sound very iffy indeed. I don't imagine anyone at all has given it a second glance.

Wiredforsound · 07/12/2020 15:25

If it was FF69 SEX then I might look at it twice, but otherwise no.

CorianderBlues · 07/12/2020 15:27

Do you 69 though?

DoNotPost · 07/12/2020 15:35

You can replace the licence plate with a generic plate though - we bought a car that had a personalised plate, which obviously meant nothing to us, so we made it a condition of sale that the garage would get us a generic plate (with the correct year) - the garage had to take some paperwork to some local government office and it wasn't a big problem. You could do it yourself if the garage wasn't willing to.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/12/2020 15:37

In Edinburgh, 13 years ago, lots of cars were scheduled to be assigned plates starting with SN07, but a special dispensation was made to allow the (otherwise unassigned) TN07 to be used instead. By contrast, that year, I'm guessing that Glasgow was issuing SC07 plates as scheduled and thus providing a big batch of future highly-desirable regs - especially whoever ended up with ones like SC07 LND and SC07 ISH etc.

I'm guessing the same dispensation was again made to Glasgow ten years later, to avoid having cars driving around with SH17 on them....

littlepeas · 07/12/2020 15:38

My DH has a 69 plate - the last 3 letters are FCX...

I hate driving his car because I am SO paranoid that people will think it’s personalised.

wildraisins · 07/12/2020 15:40

YANBU, I wouldn't want that reg, but I don't think it's that difficult to change the reg. As long as you don't want a fancy one it won't cost that much.

SurreyMumOfOne · 07/12/2020 15:50

There's an old Range Rover I see frequently with the plate ORBI5ON. Always wonder if there's an interesting story behind it.

providentglue · 07/12/2020 15:52

£80. Apply to remove the registration and the car will automatically be assigned a new registration. Then the cost of plates and any admin charge on your insurance.
Fandangoes · 07/12/2020 15:53

I see a car regularly with the number plate KN08 HED - it makes me giggle every morning, I'm sure its not intentional

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/12/2020 15:56

Oh of all the bleeding numbers.

It reminds me of a time when my mum won on the bingo and instead of shouting “house”or “bingo” She shouted the number she’d been waiting for. (5). I said to her
“it’s a good job you weren’t waiting for number “69”🤣🤣🤣🤣
