Someone posted this in a group I am in, and I find it really offensive AIBU?!

It's tasteless old fashioned and common, but it doesn't offend me.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 28/11/2020 10:34

I am glad someone saw my Jim’ll Fix It comment for what it truly was.

Still a tasteless and offensive way to make your point.

BlueBrian · 28/11/2020 10:34

Not particularly offensive just a bit out of date, like Carry on Films, Confessions of a Window Cleaner, and Benny Hill etc.

Bbq1 · 28/11/2020 10:34

It's just one of those smutty seaside postcards you used to see in gift shops on holiday. It's nothing really and is harmless. It was a bit silly to post it but as an actual postcard, it doesn't mean much. It certainly doesn't offend me.

Elfieishere · 28/11/2020 10:35

Not offensive at all. Lighten up.

Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 10:37

I don’t watch porn and I never have I don’t like that either.

OP posts:
Icantrememebrtheartist · 28/11/2020 10:37

No.

Wouldn’t be considered funny but back in the day it was. Time has moved on and that’s why postcards aren’t like this anymore.

BearSoFair · 28/11/2020 10:38

Less offensive than your Jim'll Fix It post.

YANBU @Besswess88 but as you can see from some answers to this thread, people will tell you you are unreasonable, that you should suck it up etc etc blah blah blah.

It's 'everyday sexism' and men should stop showing so blatantly that they don't consider women to be fully human. But we're so used to it that you'll be told you're unreasonable ...

It's sexist. It shows women as simply the butt of vulgar male jokes.

LondonlovesLola · 28/11/2020 10:39

The man who posted dated, smutty, seaside postcard :
‘I am glad someone saw my silly post for what it truly was.’

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/11/2020 10:39

It's misogynistic and pathetic tbh but that's so normalised that I'm not surprised to see most women accept it as our for the course. I don't think you're BU really OP. I'm not mortally wounded by the sight of it or clutching pearls but it's basically pathetic misogyny and any reminder of the state of society in that respect turns my stomach a bit.

Sorry to hear that you've had to put up with these undertones in respect of your own body.

Blondiney · 28/11/2020 10:39

Not offensive but not funny either.

Those 'saucy' postcards are part of British culture though, whether you like it or not.

gingerwhinger0 · 28/11/2020 10:41

@Helmetbymidnight

Everyone used to flock to the stands outside the shops then and laugh

no they didnt. we thought they were stupid back then.

Don’t remember anyone finding them funny. We regularly went to Blackpool as a kid, can remember asking my mum for one of the daft hats, even then my mum dismissed them as stupid an naff back in the 80’s.
Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 10:42

My sister and I were desperate to be on Jim’ll Fix It, we wrote in on a regular basis.

Turns out he wasn’t what we thought he was, but the establishment covered it up because it wasn’t deemed anything important because the children he abused didn’t matter, they were “broken biscuits”.

These postcards are the same mindset.

Melons and breasts are both nice things

Phyllidakettle · 28/11/2020 10:43

Get a life. There’s much more serious stuff going on in the world, and you’re offended by this??

StanfordPines · 28/11/2020 10:44

@Besswess88

I am glad someone saw my Jim’ll Fix It comment for what it truly was.

I worked in bars during the late 80s/90s where is was deemed perfectly acceptable for guys to grope us girls in our late teens.

Hang on a minute. You are upset that something you posted as funny was found offensive by other people even though you didn’t mean it to be offensive. You are annoyed that people have been offended by something that you don’t agree is offensive.

Do you not see the irony here?

borntobequiet · 28/11/2020 10:47

George Orwell on saucy postcards. Published 1941.

Warning: some terminology, acceptable then, would be considered offensive now.

I love that “there’s much more serious stuff going on in the world” so we can’t distract ourselves by anything else like going on an Internet chat forum? 🤣

OP posts:
Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 10:48

I didn’t think my Jim’ll Fix It comment was funny.

OP posts:
JaneM8888 · 28/11/2020 10:50

It's out-of-date seaside postcard humour.

Not PC and not funny to me.

I would also wonder about the mentality of the person who posted it.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 28/11/2020 10:50

Just puerile, tacky and only appeals to the very easily amused...
