Someone posted this in a group I am in, and I find it really offensive AIBU?!

@Besswess88

I didn’t think my Jim’ll Fix It comment was funny.
But you still think that it wasn’t offensive.
keeprocking · 28/11/2020 10:53

If you really are offended by a bit of smut you need to lie down in a darkened room. Adults can cope with things like this!

gingerwhinger0 · 28/11/2020 10:54

Is there some context behind why someone posted it in your Online group. Hey folks this is hilarious, or hey folks look at this shit postcard from yonder.
What is the focus of the online group feminism, recipe sharing, British seaside humour collective ?

oakleaffy · 28/11/2020 10:54

Not remotely offensive as looks like work from 1960's, an era long gone.

What REALLY offended me was ''Human Zoos'' programme where Aboriginal peoples were fooled into becoming part of a Circus Act.

Heartbreaking...Never knew it happened.

If you are going to get upset about the past's standards, a silly postcard is a bit ridiculous. Hurt no one.

MrsToothyBitch · 28/11/2020 10:54

I think it's a bit dated and tacky and I don't find it that funny but it doesn't offend me.

Maireas · 28/11/2020 10:54

It's a sixties sea side postcard, which should have gone the way of coal fires and measles. If you have large breasts, some men think you're asking for it.
Big boobs! Smirk, smirk.

ZaraW · 28/11/2020 10:55

It's a bit 1970's humour. I don't find it funny.

Gooseybby · 28/11/2020 10:56

Find it tasteless and revolting rather than funny but not really offensive

Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 10:56

I have explained the reason for my Jim”ll Fix It comment which was in reply to someone longing to go back to the 70s where it was legal to rape your wife, domestic abuse was considered something we should put up with and people turned a blind eye to “kiddy fiddlers”.

I found that pretty offensive that someone would long to be back in those days.

@NewlyGranny

It's vulgar and outdated. Who posts this stuff in 2021?
No-ne for a few weeks!
emilyfrost · 28/11/2020 10:56

I find if pretty offensive what a mockery you’re making out of genuine sexism.

ZaraW · 28/11/2020 10:57

I would imagine someone older posted it and if anyone objected they'd be called a snowflake.

Pyewhacket · 28/11/2020 10:57

Perhaps you need to get out more.

fromdownwest · 28/11/2020 10:59

@Pyewhacket

Perhaps you need to get out more.
This, if this is the worst thing to encounter in a day, it’s a good day.
ThePants999 · 28/11/2020 10:59

It's shit, but it's not offensive.

Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 10:59

It IS sexist and he acceptance of it then least to the acceptance of other stuff.

I find it sad how many people find this acceptable.

It’s the same attitude that perpetrates the institutional racism in the UK.

OP posts:
Maireas · 28/11/2020 11:00

Women that challenged and continue to challenge this kind of thing were/are labelled as uptight and neurotic. It was a way to shut down our concerns. "loosen up, luv, it's only a joke"

Maireas · 28/11/2020 11:00

@Besswess88 - absolutely this.

Billben · 28/11/2020 11:02

I find it tacky but not offensive.

FreshfieldsGal · 28/11/2020 11:05

Not offensive - I've always had v large boobs and when I was younger men would talk to my boobs not my face. I'm in mid 40s now and thankfully invisible.
Mind you I still love the Carry On films so maybe I have an outdated soh 😂

I don’t find it acceptable but I also don’t find it offensive.
Queenoftheashes · 28/11/2020 11:07

To give an example of this humour being wreaked in real life by creepy old men... When I was a teenager I bought some fruit off a teenage boy at a stall at the local outdoor market. Then his colleague, an older man, started saying something to him about melons. The teen guy looked really confused, thinking this was a work-related thing, until the old man started doing the melon/boobs gesture, making it clear he was commenting on my large tits. The teen looked rather uncomfortable and I was of course mortified.

DahliaMacNamara · 28/11/2020 11:08

Yes, it's dated.
No, it's not funny.
Is it offensive in itself? I think OP sees it as part of a bigger picture, where large breasts are something to be laughed at as well as lusted over. In the postcard, the horny man is supposed to be the butt of the joke - it's not even as subtle as a Carry On style double entendre. Her breasts are like melons, phwoar. I've heard enough commentary on my own breasts over my lifetime to know it's a slippery slope. Since the person who posted the image has now taken it down, it looks as if OP is not alone in calling it out.

You are the only one who doesn't come across very well in all this and spectacularly miss the point.

Again, you don't have to like it or find it funny. I honestly don't find it funny either. What you make of it is a bit..silly, and completely ignorant of what sexism really is.

gottakeeponmovin · 28/11/2020 11:08

I think it's funny (sorry)
