Someone posted this in a group I am in, and I find it really offensive AIBU?!

Crass and unfunny to me but not offensive. I feel that word is overused.

LouJ85 · 28/11/2020 23:09
@nicegerbil - I must have missed all the comments from women (how on earth you know they are in fact women is quite magical) saying they find it 'super hilarious'. There are a couple who have said they find it funny but I don't recall seeing any saying it's super hilarious. I could have missed them though, of course. Or you could just be exaggerating/making shit up again.
No you haven't missed them. Literally no one has said it's "super hilarious". The odd person has said it's funny, whilst the vast majority have said it's a bit naff / not funny / outdated. In summary - no one is raving about how amazing it is; but equally most aren't offended either.

MeMarmite · 29/11/2020 07:43

Of course it's fucking offensive. Women are not body parts, we are whole human beings.

Nor are we playthings for men to pick up and put down again, waiting there vacantly for their pleasure.

Yes, it's deeply offensive, and it's couched in 'jokey' terms to obfuscate that fact.

LemonDrizzles · 29/11/2020 08:37

I find it offensive. But yes, I had comments made about my boobs when I was 15 by my former head teacher. Yuck, gross and so yes I am sensitive!

I didn’t have such comments made and I still think it is offensive so I don’t necessarily think the fact that you think it’s offensive is because you’re sensitive.

I was about to post this when I re read your post and realised you said FORMER HEADTEACHER when you were 15 - Christ, I have no words about how wrong that is.

Meraas · 29/11/2020 10:22

@NiceGerbil

Erm I was being sarcastic :/

You can look at my earlier post if you like.

The fact it's not obvious I was being sarcastic is in itself a bit worrying :/

Sorry @NiceGerbil, the sarcasm wasn’t totally clear at first but I see it now.
blackeye7 · 29/11/2020 10:30

I don't find it funny but I am definitely not offended. Life must be very difficult and tiring if you get upset about silly things like this.

How incredibly patronising. I am sure there is something that pisses you off that I also might find very silly.

Actually yes. The older I get, the more I see clearly how embedded and serious misogyny is in society, and how bad its consequences are for women, even those who refuse to countenance it – the more I do find that hard work and depressing.

This particular example has a silver lining in that these cards are no longer really a thing that most people would be into, as things have changed. But many things haven't changed and some are getting worse.

Yet weird as it may seem I still have a sense of humour and lots of things to enjoy.

This sneering and "you have no sense of humour" "you're miserable" "can't you take a joke" - you do realise how *exactly" you sound like a 1970s boss who has just grabbed someone's arse and they didn't just laugh it off?

*attacking women for not finding it funny is part of how it works"

HerselfIndoors · 29/11/2020 11:12

And apologies for my shit typing and asterisk fails.

Besom · 29/11/2020 11:17

'Of it's time' yes thank fuck.

But my own mother hated these type of things in the seventies because she thought they were 'chauvinist'. So it isnt true that everyone found them acceptable even then.

This, with bells on.
Besswess88 · 29/11/2020 11:24

@HerselfIndoors

Totally what you have said, and it’s the subtlety of it, you know it’s really not that bad, don’t be so bloody silly, you are so over sensitive.

And the same sheeting people got very offended at OP’s comment about Jim’ll Fix It. Go figure!

Meraas · 29/11/2020 11:37

*sneering not sheeting!

LouJ85 · 29/11/2020 11:40

attacking women for not finding it funny is part of how it works

But the majority do women on this thread have said they don't find it funny.* Just that equally, they aren't personally offended either. And why would they be, unless this has affected them directly and personally? You can't get annoyed at a group of people for not being offended by something - personal offence is exactly that -personal* to each person based on their own experiences.

LouJ85 · 29/11/2020 11:41

I have no idea why most of that came out in bold! 🤷‍♀️😂

LolaSmiles · 29/11/2020 11:41

It's silly dated humour and not something I find funny, but it isn't offensive.

Twistered · 29/11/2020 11:42

I'm shocked by the voting and the comments in this thread. It shows there is such a long long way to go for equality for women, for our looks not to laughed at, for us not to be treated like pieces of meet, for sexualisation of breasts to stop which are for feeding babies and for the right not to be ridiculed when we call something out as offensive.

I don't get offended easily. I like a bit of banter.
I find the picture incredibly offensive and sexist.

Op I wonder if you ask on the feminist boards would you get a different overall response?

Other were also equally smutty cards making fun of men.

For me it's of a time and other seaside type humour cards like that take the mick out of men as well. It's not a genre I find find funny and it's something that will rightly fade away. I just don't find it offensive.

Not finding something offensive doesn't equal endorsement.

Besswess88 · 29/11/2020 12:12

@Twistered

I thought about that but I have always been to scared to go over there as I think I am a feminist but not sure if I am 🤣🤣
