AIBU to think that vaccine snobbery will be a thing?

Pfizer : Waitrose
Moderna : Sainsburys
Oxford : Morrisons

For the record, Europe is still at the forefront cos Pfizer’s vaccine is only theirs due to the German company they were working with, who actually created the vaccine. In Germany I think.

Mentum · 26/11/2020 20:10

I can imagine the not so subtle boasts of the Pfizers on Facebook now, lording it over their Astra frenemies

Oxford/AstraZeneca is being distributed to developing countries on a non profit basis. That makes them the Co-Op.

thegcatsmother · 26/11/2020 20:13

Oxford's however has been produced with Astra Zeneca as a non profit, so that less ell economically developed countries won't have to pay huge prices for it.

We'll soon see articles in the gossip rags: what does YOUR vaccine say about YOU?

OP posts:
SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 26/11/2020 20:16

Are people really that pathetic?

JamesAnderson · 26/11/2020 20:18

I'll be quite happy to have any vaccine they decide to give me as long as it's safe and stops me getting severe disease

Mentum · 26/11/2020 20:18

They are all effective but they won't all have the same boasting value!

OP posts:
Thinkingg · 26/11/2020 20:23

There isn't a You Are Being Weird option WinkGrin

Girlyracer · 26/11/2020 20:23

I don't agree and I have no idea why you are coming up with this notion. And I can be snobby about other stuff, certainly not this Confused

QuestionableMouse · 26/11/2020 20:25

Honestly wouldn't give a shit if it meant we could go back to a more normal life.

elastamum · 26/11/2020 20:25

So if you are offered the AZ vaccine, will you turn it down as it isn't waitrose?

Redcherries · 26/11/2020 20:26

Not everyone can take various versions, it’s not clear yet but it looks like I can’t have Pfizer’s but can have Oxford. Why on earth would we put down a uk company though. Such a weird idea.

Summerstorms · 26/11/2020 20:28

Please tell me this is a light hearted thread?

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 26/11/2020 20:28

Which one is...this isn't just any vaccine, this is the hand crafted, below-zero stored, lovingly administered M&S vaccine.

Didyousaynutella · 26/11/2020 20:29

I think we should be proud of the Oxford one. And I will take what I can get.

Mentum · 26/11/2020 20:31

The snobbery won't be all one way. Oxford alumni will beam with pride as they line up for their Astras, far more transportable than the deeply frozen American upstarts

OP posts:
Meepmeeep · 26/11/2020 20:37

Are you even going to get a choice what vaccine you get? I really wouldn’t think that would be the case. Your health board will be allocated a vaccine and that’s what you get?

Mentum · 26/11/2020 20:38

The Winter Collection has been much anticipated, but the Spring and Summer will see new designs. The Sanofis will bring their debonnaire je ne sais quoi to the world, and the Novamax might be just the thing to go with beach sandals

NichyNoo · 26/11/2020 20:39

We only call it the Oxford vaccine here in the U.K. out of some random sense of nationalism. It is a collaboration with AstraZeneca and when I watch French news they call it the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Saucery · 26/11/2020 20:41

I don’t know why but AstraZeneca always makes me think of Aladdin Sane, so that’s the Glam Rock option for me.

SebastianTheCrab · 26/11/2020 20:42

I'm amazed that of all the responses so far not one has taken this thread in the way it's clearly intended.

OP, maybe someone will come up with a no sense of humour vaccine?

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2020 20:43

The original work was by the Oxford group. Not quite sure how you make out a case for nationalism in saying oxford rather than AstraZeneca as it's a U.K.-Swedish company headquartered in Cambridge.Confused
ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2020 20:47

Pfizer sounds like a sneeze, not auspicious for a vaccine, and moderna sounds like a trendy furniture company.

It's a pity Zeneca isn't still the pharms division of the late, great Imperial Chemical Industries - for sure that would have been the Harrods version.

Doordine · 26/11/2020 20:49

😂
I'll just tell everyone I got Pfizer, like how I wear Primark and pretend it's Topshop.
