Pfizers will look down on Oxfords

AIBU to think that vaccine snobbery will be a thing?

Pfizer : Waitrose
Moderna : Sainsburys
Oxford : Morrisons

OP posts:
ginnybag · 26/11/2020 22:45

Where does Novavax fall?

Neither as cheap as Oxford nor as, erm, discerning as Pfizer but comes with special features (sterilising immunity). Sainsbos, maybe, or Tesco's for that every little helps moment?

RedToothBrush · 26/11/2020 22:48

@Wtfdidwedo

I know it's been a shit year but bloody hell, if you can't take a mild joke maybe don't post.
Or maybe tell better jokes at the right time?
veeeeh · 26/11/2020 22:50

Well we all know that the Oxford vaccine is fkd now. Sorry for them really, but they may turn out to be the best. It's all about confidence.

It was the cheapest option so go figure.

Not knocking the scientists at all, but the efficacy was at best 70%. And before anyone shouts at me, I know the efficacy of the annual flu jab too.

The storage of the vaccines is an issue, although I know Astra Z is easier than Pfizer and Moderna.

God help us all. Who will know what to do now.

ImAllOut · 26/11/2020 22:52

It's been 9 months of this shit now, it doesn't seem like there will ever be a right time anymore to be honest.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2020 22:54

@Alicesweewonders

Yeah, I definitely go for the German vaccine, I mean look at their Cars, ye can't beat the Aul German engineering.

It will be the Audi of all vaccines.

Are you implying Oxford will create the Morris Minor of vaccines? And would that be a bad thing?
CoffeeandCroissant · 26/11/2020 22:57

Do all the people not quite good enough for the Oxford vaccine get the Durham vaccine instead and then insist that it was really their first choice anyway..?

AlternativePerspective · 26/11/2020 22:58

Even if it’s intended to be lighthearted this thread is pretty distasteful really. Especially since none of the vaccines have actually been licenced yet.

And no, the Oxford is not F*ked, read the science, and in truth what happened was a mistake which worked. They have discovered that if they give a lower dose first and then follow up with the higher dose the vaccine is 90% effective. They need to extend that section of the trial to be sure, but the efficacy decisions are down to the experts to make not the tabloid press who have probably been waiting to slag off the oxford vaccine purely because it’s oxford.

AlternativePerspective · 26/11/2020 23:00

And no, you won’t know which vaccine you’re getting. You’re not told which flu vaccine you’re getting, and there are different ones of those as well.

I mean it might be a giveaway if your arm freezes on impact with the needle, but other than that....

Changi · 26/11/2020 23:01

Don't they have form for faking their test results?

Callipygion · 26/11/2020 23:02

If I get the choice, i would like to support British scientists and have the Oxford one, thank you very very much boffins.

Fair enough, but this sets the seed for the worry warts.

Too quick. But Boris will use the cheapest version, which may turn out to be the best anyway.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/11/2020 23:10

I'm doubt the decision what to use is ultimately down to Boris, in all seriousness.

AnyFucker · 26/11/2020 23:19

Too soon.

AnyFucker · 26/11/2020 23:20

I did actually see some serious comments on here the other day about people saying they "will be having x, y or z vaccine"

Oh, how I laughed

Brexit and British exceptionalism again.

Sigh almighty.

Give us the best vaccine please, if it happens to be better than Astra Z, it doesn't matter just get on with it now. AZ may turn out to be the best in the end, who knows?

Appears to me it will be needed every year and will be wrapped with the flu jab anyway.

Cost is factor.

Changi · 26/11/2020 23:46

Can you have all of them?

LioneIRichTea · 26/11/2020 23:53

Couldn’t care less, Oxford is non-profit so that gets my vote 👍🏻

Thewithesarehere · 27/11/2020 00:00

This thread has made my night Grin.

WeAllHaveWings · 27/11/2020 00:11

I spoke to someone today who said they wouldn't be touching the Pfizer one as it was American and something to do with the company being sued lots of times before. He honestly didn't realise it was highly unlikely he would be getting a choice! Then he decided if he wasnt offered the Oxford one he wouldn't have any, no reason why.

Too negative I reckon

This area too is going to be in tier 3 after lockdown. And I am pissed off. And have been very upset about it. But I actually appreciate the lightheartedness of this thread and it has made me smile... so thanks OP.
