I think our neighbours heard us...

NC for this as I'm mortified.

Would never normally happen. We don't do it often and when we do we are discreet! But last night dp and I had a few drinks and had some rather loud and ahem, vigorous adult time Blush

Walls are thin, semi detached house and about half way through we heard a very loud intentional cough from next door. Obviously realised if we could hear them then they could hear us. Stopped quite soon after.

It was late and we were being inconsiderate. I wasn't thinking and I was definitely making a lot of noise Blush Now I'm totally embarrassed. Obviously I would never bring it up so do I just front it out when I next see them or hide indoors forever??? Please tell me it's no big deal!!!!

“Sorry our television was so loud the other night. We weren’t expecting a scene like that in a movie about nuns.”

Dongdingdong · 22/11/2020 13:58

Ugh - your poor neighbours.

Dongdingdong · 22/11/2020 14:00

My place has has thin walls and my neighbour and I must have heard everything over the years - shagging, arguments, tears, bad singing, comedy burps, the lot.

I couldn't live in a place like that - it would make me completely miserable. Thank goodness for my lovely thick walls!

lynxca16 · 22/11/2020 14:01

Your going to have to front it out and ensure your wine/porn star room is on a detached wall :)))

Wouldn't worry about it

Grown ups have sex, in the olden days no-one got any privacy!
Our neighbours never go out (regardless of lockdown - they are elderly and frail). If we waited until they weren't there we'd never have 'adult time' so we just get on with it and leave them to turn their TV up (they are quite deaf so usually the TV is loud).
I am a bit mortified about our loud Christmas Day 'celebrations' a couple of years ago though. It was the middle of Christmas Day while we were waiting for dinner to cook (and we were in the living room Blush ) It turned out they had three generations of the family visiting for the afternoon so didn't have the TV on.

Meowchickameowmeow · 22/11/2020 14:06

but if they do mention it

I cannot imagine that they'd ever mention it.

Joswis · 22/11/2020 14:09

@Ideasplease322

I hear my neighbours all the time🤢

I play music to try and drown it out.

It only annoys me when the headboard slams off the wall at 3am. Can be easily fixed by shoving a pillow behind it.

Yes, this! Shagging is allowed, in your own bedroom in your own bed.

A neighbour once had the headboard banging with his new woman. It went on for weeked (amazed he was up to it really, he was in his 40s). I dropped hints and in the end just asked him to pull the bed away from the wall. He was mortified but it stopped.

Jumpingjosephene21 · 22/11/2020 14:10

lol thanks all you've made me feel a lot better! Loving the racy TV show explanation Grin

I promise I'm usually a lot more considerate but obviously got caught in the moment and lost my inhibitions after a drink or 5!

Dont worry about it. They may have had a snigger at the time but I 100% guarantee they have not given it a second thought, probably forgotten by the time you next bump in to them.

AlwaysLatte · 22/11/2020 14:13

Buy a pampas grass and wait and see if they knock on your door.

No not happy with this.

I need a detailed description of how you found this out about the neighbours Grin

Swinging.
StormBaby · 22/11/2020 14:16

Bloody hell we always make a right racket! The neighbours just laugh at us. Neighbour on the other side got herself a new toy boy and started competing with us through the walls!

jessstan1 · 22/11/2020 14:22

Blimey! You could hear a cough?

I'd hate to live anywhere with such thin walls. I hear virtually nothing through the walls on the side which my house joins and they have lively young adult children who live there with friends visiting: no talk, coughing or laughter, only if some building work is being done in their house or when they close the back door with a bang sometimes. Certainly nothing upstairs.

I'd want to move as soon as it was feasible.

yelyah22 · 22/11/2020 14:26

Don't worry about it! As long as it was a one off and you're not doing bedroom opera every other night they probably won't have a second thought about it - it's what happens when people live close together with thin walls. I hear our neighbours all the time (and I'm sure they've heard us before) - they're not being particularly loud, but we live in an old terrace with single brick walls so it's pretty unavoidable unless you're completely mute on very sturdy furniture!

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/11/2020 14:26

Oh you think that’s bad, I once heard our ndn YAWN and we’d been there 3 years by then.

BubblyBarbara · 22/11/2020 14:29

It’s a bit sad you’ll have to be so self conscious or sad about making love as you want to just because your house isn’t so great. Sex is meant to be spontaneous noisy and fun, I hope it doesn’t fizzle out and affect your relationship...

Pyewhacket · 22/11/2020 14:29

Cough as loud as you like, wouldn't have stopped me.

yelyah22 · 22/11/2020 14:29

Bit of a short sighted comment, jessstan - lots of people live in old or cheaply built houses/flats and can't afford to just pack it all up to move to a detached with bunker walls because they can hear a bit of noise next door. If you live in close proximity to people, you'll hear people.

Ideally I'd live somewhere I can't hear next door's alarm in the morning, but it isn't making me frantically scour Rightmove every morning - it's just life. My friend lives in a new build and she can hear her neighbour having a piss every morning - not ideal, but it comes from having cheaply built (but not cheap to buy) houses!

Sweettea1 · 22/11/2020 14:32

It happens I've heard my neighbours many of times an they have probably heard me too forget it an move on they will have.

the80sweregreat · 22/11/2020 14:34

You'll have to move now! Only kidding!

I know they coughed , but it might not have been intentionally but just a cough?
Do you get on with them otherwise?
Are they the sort to moan about every little thing?

emmcan · 22/11/2020 14:42

Whenever I read these threads Victoria Wood starts playing in my head.

''Stop screaming, stop shouting, you know I put me back out when I did that grouting...''

SparklyGlitter95 · 22/11/2020 14:43

I've heard my elderly neighbours doing it before 🤣🤣🤣 honestly can hardly look at them when I next see them

lots of people have to put up with similar as they can't afford to move. it can be annoying but I'm so used to it I can't sleep at my friends' detached house as it's too quiet!

nuns and pampas grass Grin
