To think Camilla should be queen?

Just interested in people's views. The whole Charles/Diana/Camilla thing was grim but it's also grim that she's the one treated as responsible rather than him. All water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

(Obviously some people would get rid of the lot of them, and fair enough.)

I've heard that any surname that starts with Fitz is from an illegitimate (but acknowledged) royal line.

No. It does mean son of, and usually denotes descent from Norman nobility. Fitzherberts are descended from a Herbert, and so on.

Fitzroy means son of the king, and was used for one or two royal bastards. Other just took their mother's surname as was usual.

pessimistiquerealistique · 18/11/2020 21:16

The monarchy should end. It's 21st century not medieval times when most of the population were considered to be plebs.

CoronaIsWatching · 18/11/2020 21:18

No, no amount of re-branding will make her acceptable. I also feel the same about Charles. Educate yourself and watch The Crown.

Notrightbutok · 18/11/2020 21:18

Not really a fan of Camilla but I do think she's a very stylish lady and is looking very well for a lady in her 70s. I know she will technically be Queen if and when Charles takes the throne but I don't think a double coronation will go down well. I suppose 'King Tampax I' will get his own way because she is the only 'non negotiable' in his life.

The Crown really isn’t a History book!

I've avidly watched the other series but this one makes me feel quite sad. Seeing a very young girl played like that. I'm only up to episode 2.

CanIPutMyTreeUpYet · 18/11/2020 21:21

I don’t particularly like the woman, or Charles, but then I don’t have respect for anyone who has an affair when they’re already married.
After the way they behaved, I think it’d be wrong for her to be queen.

WitchesSpelleas · 18/11/2020 21:22

Educate yourself and watch The Crown.

Ha ha! Bad enough living through so many Royal debacles, can't imagine why anyone would want to see them dramatised.

PrincessNutNut · 18/11/2020 21:30

Harry and Meghan are proof that even if you do leave the monarchy and try to be modern and financially independent and relatively normal, people will still have a firm idea of how you should behave, and you'll be found wanting all the time.

Smallsteps88 · 18/11/2020 21:33

King Tampax??

FitzClarence is another name with strong royal bastard links

King William IV had nine or ten children with his mistress while he was Duke of Clarence and they were all given the name FitzClarence

King what? Was that an autocorrect fail?
lyralalala · 18/11/2020 21:36

@PrincessNutNut Google Prince Charles and Tampax

Make sure you're not eating while you do so though

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 18/11/2020 21:36

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

I don't believe royalty as a concept should exist, but as things stand the wife of the king is the queen. If we are going to keep this ridiculous system, I don't see how it can be maintained if people cherry pick. Once you start leaving out the bits that some people don't like, the whole thing falls apart and people like me start asking why we have to have any of it.
Very good points made here.
MartiniDry · 18/11/2020 21:40

I'd rather get rid of the lot of them but as I can't do that I see no reason why Camilla can't be queen. She's suffered enough indignity already, imho, and if it wasn't for her penchant for urging hounds to rip up other animals I'd quite like her.

Oh. Oh my.

PrincessNutNut · 18/11/2020 21:48

Still, it was a private conversation. You wouldn't like to know some of the things my husband and I say to each other either.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 18/11/2020 21:49

I don't think that anybody should be Queen.

Elected Head of State, yes.

I'm pretty sure they were both still married to other people at the time that conversation was recorded. I remember it being a HUGE scandal in all the papers at the time, and I was only about 9 or 10, so didn't really know the details of what it was all about until years later.

DCIHoops · 18/11/2020 22:34

@Hont1986

Hopefully they just get rid of the whole thing after Elizabeth goes, and we can be rid of having to read or think about them for good.
This - the pandemic has meant we haven’t seen or heard from them for 8 months and no-one has really noticed their absence. They are a complete anachronism - get rid and divert the money to those in the U.K who need it.
Frankola · 18/11/2020 22:41

I know I'm going off on a tangent here but why wouldn't they allow Charles to marry Camilla in the first place? Does anyone know?

timetest · 18/11/2020 22:48

I thought she was to be known as Princess Consort when Charles became King. I don’t know how much longer monarchy can continue. The level of privilege and people’s expectation of them can’t be good for their mental health.

Eng123 · 18/11/2020 22:54

Let's dissolve the lot and send the to Canada where they can pay their own protection bill!
