To ask which winter boots you buy especially over 50

whatisforteamum · 15/11/2020 10:07

I always bought flat leather boots with a good grippy sole.Almost knew high with a riding boot look.Even last year I had several compliments on how nice they were.I need to replace them and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54.
I walk everywhere and live in a town/countryside.I just need something comfy and stylish for colder snowy or wet days.
Where do MN ers buy boots. My DS suggested wellies!

I love fly London.. Bought my last pair a year ago and they are still going strong despite the mud where we live!

MollyButton · 15/11/2020 10:14

There is no law that says you have to dress a certain way once you are 50! Wear what you want and like.

Personally I avoid vertiginous heels, but if I saw someone of 70in them and comfortable, I'd just think she was great.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/11/2020 10:16

I love Hotter Whisper ankle boots in a variety of colours. I'm currently wearing bright red. I am over 60 but wore very similar in my 20s with a rara shirt and leg warmers.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 15/11/2020 10:20

Okay. Now I know there's a concerted campaign to undermine women.

We had "Am I too old to show my ankles?" last week. Now we have "Am I too old to choose my own footwear?"

Bloody. Hell.

When. Will. It. Stop?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 15/11/2020 10:20

I have a couple of pairs of Dr Martens Leonore boots for winter - they're lined with fluff and are the most comfortable things I've ever worn.

Massive fan of heels but we live rurally and spend a great deal of time in stables so heels are a rarity.

Don't worry about what shoes you should be wearing at a certain age. Worry about finding something you love.

Lunariagal · 15/11/2020 10:20

I love fitflop superboot.

Nobody said that. The OP is just looking fur suggestions. She likes flat boots, I like flat boots and always have, nobody has said she shouldn't wear stilletos but she doesn't want to.
CaptainMyCaptain · 15/11/2020 10:23

She did say something about 'mutton dressed as lamb' though which is an expression I hate

whatisforteamum · 15/11/2020 10:23

Thanks Molly.😊 TBH I am slim and were dark jeans with them.I am just aware of dressing too young for my age.

kleanex · 15/11/2020 10:24

Blundstone and Grenson are currently on you go.

doodleygirl · 15/11/2020 10:24

What has your age got to do with the boots you buy? That is just ridiculous. Get the boots you love.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 15/11/2020 10:26

Is what the OP said. And her thread title specifically asks for boots marked out for the over 50s.

Boots.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/11/2020 10:28

OK argue about that then - or be helpful.

Ashard20 · 15/11/2020 10:30

I have Fly London biker boots (Scop110fly) in green petrol and Doc Marten burgundy Hi -Shriver boots with ribbons, not laces. I can't do heels, but they have chunky soles so give me a bit of height. I totally love them and often receive nice comments about them. I am 57. I seem to have become obsessed with boots fairly recently and own several pairs, a few of them being Rieker from Amazon and very reasonably priced.

drspouse · 15/11/2020 10:32

I also have Fly London ankle boots plus a pair of Ecco ankle boots, both Goretex.

Your age might a factor if you were planning to buy a babygro, but you're looking for boots! What bearing does your age have on boots? Buy the ones you like. If you want advice on finding boots you like, fair enough, but that could be the same whatever your age.
SoosanCarter · 15/11/2020 10:32

Another vote here for Hotter Whisper boots

whatisforteamum · 15/11/2020 10:32

I ask this because I can't try on In store obviously and don't know any women my own age as I work with 20 somethings.
I may get the same as I had if others don't think there is an age limit on footwear.

Oly4 · 15/11/2020 10:33

Barbour
I have a few pairs of their Chelsea boots. They are stylish and classic without being too Barbour!
Grippy soles that don’t wear out

PoulePouletteEternellement · 15/11/2020 10:33

I can't be bothered to argue about it. God only knows why, after thousands of years of struggle to establish women's right to independently choose and wear their own clothes (assuming the OP is in the U.K.) we so regularly see posts here trying to make women believe there are rules about cut-off ages for clothing. There are not.

Of course there isn't a limit on footwear. Why would there be?
JudithShakespeare · 15/11/2020 10:36

don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54

It's a hideous phrase that I wish women would stop using about themselves and other women.

Frouby · 15/11/2020 10:36

What about some country boots OP? Have a look on horsey websites. Depending on your budget you could get some ariats or dubary but most of the equestrian brands do them these days. Will be warm and comfortable and dressier than wellies and nicer to walk in.

whatisforteamum · 15/11/2020 10:37

Oh yes I love reiker.and will look up the hotter ones.I know hotter are a bit pricey though. My current ankle boots are white stuff one in navy one burgundy pair in suede.I do love colour in footwear.Never heard of Fly London so thank you.
