I always bought flat leather boots with a good grippy sole.Almost knew high with a riding boot look.Even last year I had several compliments on how nice they were.I need to replace them and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54.
I walk everywhere and live in a town/countryside.I just need something comfy and stylish for colder snowy or wet days.
Where do MN ers buy boots. My DS suggested wellies!

PoulePouletteEternellement well said!

WoodbytheRiver · 15/11/2020 10:46

Huh? You don’t know any women your age because you work with 20 somethings?!
I just don’t get this? How do you not know women in your age group? Friends, parents of your children’s friends, family?
Tbh my most recent boots have been garbor, rieker, vionic. My walking boots are ariat.

whatisforteamum · 15/11/2020 10:48

No one is trying to start an argument here.I simply asked where women my own age buy boots.

I was getting so many sale notifications from Hotter that I unsubscribed from their email, so register and you'll soon start getting discounts coming through.

I have wide feet and ankles, so Hotter are a good brand for me; although not "Hotter" wide fit - they are like boats, even for me; if you buy online from them, be aware that the wider fitting makes them generously sized- or wait a few weeks (?) and try on in store. Once you know your size with them, I do find different styles are consistently sized.

A few years ago I had ankle boots from O'Neil that were brilliant.
Joules Wellibobs for ultra muddy walks.

FrankskinnerscRoc · 15/11/2020 10:51

Fly boots, I've got the Mes 3, Mol 2, & Salv. comfiest boot I ever had!

MaureenMLove · 15/11/2020 10:54

I'm almost your age OP and I buy my boots in New Look or Next! I couldn't give a flying fig whether the model wearing them is 22 or 92, if I like them, I buy them!

I also have rheumatoid arthritis in my feet, so they hurt most of the time, whether I'm wearing sensible, stout walking boots or not, so I'm going out in a blaze of glory!

funnylittlefloozie · 15/11/2020 10:56

If you've got normal-ish calves Grin, and you live in the country and need boots, get Ariats or Dubarrys. I cant wear Ariats because i have stump-like legs and they come up over my knees if they fit over my vast calves, but i always look longingly at them.

I do think its a bit odd that you don't know ANY women your own age. How did you manage that?

notacooldad · 15/11/2020 11:03

Seriously forget the ' mutton looking like lamb' perception you may have op.
Google the style of boots you want ie. Flat leather ankle and pick what goes with what you wear and like.
For what its worth im 55 and have dr Martin Chelsea boots and Carvela Spike . Both are comfortable, grippy and contemporary and look good with most everday wear.

YouokHun · 15/11/2020 11:06

@PoulePouletteEternellement

Okay. Now I know there's a concerted campaign to undermine women.

We had "Am I too old to show my ankles?" last week. Now we have "Am I too old to choose my own footwear?"

Bloody. Hell.

When. Will. It. Stop?

^this.

I am 53 and wear what I want. Clothes labelled with an age range are for children up to the age of about 14. After that there’s no guidance and you can literally wear anything!

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/11/2020 11:07

Age limit on footwear? Dressing too young for your age? Jeezo. I am similar to you op, just for info. Wear what you like - if that’s flats that’s fine btw. I just bought some animal print biker boots and a pair of over the knee boots in beautiful olive suede, both for the colder months. Love ‘em

MuthaFunka61 · 15/11/2020 11:08

If you'd like my opinion I'd also say wear what you like.
I'm 60 next month and still have dreads and wear docs mind you
Wink

Poppyismyfavourite · 15/11/2020 11:09

I'm only 30 but have dodgy ankles and very narrow feet so not brilliant in heels! I love my rieker boots. Some of their stuff is really grannyish but some of the boots are gorgeous.
in my city there's a market stall that sells seconds for £20 😁

Appuskidu · 15/11/2020 11:09

Fly London-they are so comfortable.

YouokHun · 15/11/2020 11:10

@whatisforteamum I really like Spanish riding boot styles which are flat or have a low heel. You can get them direct from Spain for way less than they’re sold for here www.valverdebotas.com/en/

wineymummy · 15/11/2020 11:26

Another vote for ECCO Goretex leather boots. On to my third winter in mine and they're still good as new. I bought them half price in the January sales for about £80 so they've been excellent value.

DrizzleandDamp · 15/11/2020 11:28

Ariat or fairfax and favour. Not cheap but they last forever and are designed for equestrians. I have my actual riding boots from them and my day to day.

Rina66 · 15/11/2020 11:30

I think these are gorgeous from Zara, flat, zip side and half price!

To ask which winter boots you buy especially over 50
Cherrysoup · 15/11/2020 11:30

Why don’t you look up proper riding boots or country boots? Tuffa www.tuffaboots.com/ have nice country boots, as do Kramer, www.kramer.co.uk/Rider/Riding-Footwear/Riding-Boots-Yard-Boots
Ariat (very expensive) www.ariat.com/gb/en/women-footwear etc. If you’re on ebay, go to equestrian and search for country boots.

Wear what you like, boots aren’t an indicator of age!

Joswis · 15/11/2020 11:34

Struggling with this myself. Have no boots because I chucked my much lived biker boots out in the summer, because they were falling apart and I knew I'd try to wear them for another winter if I didn't get rid then.

But can't find any I like now. They're all too trendy or too granny. I like biker boots but have a dislike of boots with toes that look like wellies. And so many biker boots do. God help me when the weather gets foul and I'm still bootless.

notacooldad · 15/11/2020 11:52

I have the Bowland tan boots.
Absolutely gorgeous. I've got my eye on the Bowland black for my Christmas present

BoulangerieBabs · 15/11/2020 11:56

I'm mid 50's and work with 20 somethings too.

I wear the same footwear as they do, I'm not going to change what I like to wear because I'm a certain age.

Couldn't give a flying fuck if anyone cares to judge me because I'm a woman over 50.

OneMillionSteps · 15/11/2020 12:04

I like Moshulu boots - fairly pricey but good quality and lots of colours and styles

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/11/2020 12:06

I need to replace them and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54.

Please do. It's a preferable alternative to 'mutton dressed as mutton' Smile

Trust me: I'm an accountant.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 15/11/2020 12:07

Couldn't give a flying fuck if anyone cares to judge me because I'm a woman over 50.

Well said, that woman Smile

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 15/11/2020 12:08

Hotter soles have amazing grip that's why I love them in winter. Yes their widths are very generous - I have wide feet and their standard width is plenty wide enough for me.
