I always bought flat leather boots with a good grippy sole.Almost knew high with a riding boot look.Even last year I had several compliments on how nice they were.I need to replace them and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54.
I walk everywhere and live in a town/countryside.I just need something comfy and stylish for colder snowy or wet days.
Where do MN ers buy boots. My DS suggested wellies!

I'm 59 and live in a small country town. I tend to always have a pair of timberland on the go, as they've got thick grippy soles - so if it gets icey or anything I'm ok (my town is v hilly). Currently got a nice pair of lace up ankle boots for smart and an older beat-up pair for gardening. I also have some fly mid-calf boots for tucking into jeans, and a pair of suede doc martins for the hell of it. If you're planning some online shopping, I can recommend Office, which has a vast range of different brands.

Keen footwear do great boots too, I bought some from tkmaxx once. They lasted for ages and I nearly cried when the cobbler wouldn't fix them any more! www.keenfootwear.com/womens-boots/

I have a pair of Clarks boots which look very like the Hotter Whisper and I wear them a lot lately.

ncailleach · 15/11/2020 16:49

These look like them! They were sooo comfy 🙂www.keenfootwear.com/p/W-PRESIDIO-II-BOOT-WP.html

  1. Favourite boots are knee-high Fly London wedges, but I have several heeled ankle boots including fake snakeskin. As long as you can walk in them, I wouldn't worry about the mutton.

I ... don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb now I'm 54. I don't think that's a concept nowadays.

My most recent pair were Joseph Seibel Siena, but they're ankle boots. Wonderfully comfortable, though, and they've attracted a lot of compliments. (I'm a good deal older than you).

Joswis · 16/11/2020 12:18

It is a concept now. One not everyone subscribes to, which is fine. But also fine if people want to as well.

I love both Ecco goretex boots and Hotter. The Hotter ones I have are also the goretex ones with the fluffy lining. Can't remeber what the style is called. They are completely waterproof and very comfy. I also get lots of offer emails and they have lots of sales.

I have some Clarks ones that are just a basic boot - like a slightly less chunky version of police office boots - which are great. These are a couple of years old.

I also have proper walking boots that I’ve owned for about 15 years - can’t remember where I got these but Decathlon are great for all sports things.

I also have a pair of lined boots from somewhere like trespass and a smarter pair of boots from Dune.

I’m 42 if that helps.

These Clark’s ones but they’ve raised the heel a bit since I bought mine.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/11/2020 12:37

It is a concept now.

Not in my world, it isn't!

TheDowagerDuchess · 16/11/2020 12:46

It’s definitely not where I live!

Mistymonday · 16/11/2020 13:20

Sorrel! Canadian, love them!

Joswis · 16/11/2020 13:22

The point that some pay attention to it means it IS still a current concept. Just that some ignore it.

I'm in 2 minds about ignoring it. I don't care what others do but I don't want to stand out as an older woman trying to look like a 20 year old. Each to their own.

My old biker books had this name. They didn't look like these tho.

A young friend of mine likes Clarks. She's not a follower of fashion, but her husband STILL said to her, Clarks shoes are for old ladies.
