Bugger. I'm going to have to haul my ass out of bed to watch cnn downstairs on TV.

My worry was that Arizona might flip back to Trump

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 09:58

@MrsMigginsMate

Is Fox news usually pro-Trump? There's one of the big networks that is usually his mouthpiece isn't there? Have they turned on him yet or are they perpetuating the idea that the Dem have committed election fraud?

Forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning as I haven't really followed US politics before.

Yep. And its making a lot of noises that are not in keeping with its usual tone. Its still got some conspiracy noises but its not as pro-Trump as it has traditionally been.

Calling Arizona ridiculously early has ruffled feathers too.

Ditto, Murdoch's New York Post.

Rats from a sinking ship spring to mind.

Was reading about this today as I couldn’t understand why Fox had declared Arizona - apparently Trump had a hissy fit and either he or Kushner phoned Murdoch to complain.

Apparently the newsreaders are strongly pro Trump but those behind the scenes more neutral. The guy they have doing the numbers thought it was clear enough to declare based on the maths, hence declaring it blue.

3ormorecharacters · 06/11/2020 10:00

I've only just discovered CNN yesterday too! I'd just been following online before. I'm also really liking CNN - so detailed and informative. The odd bit of opinion bias towards the Democrats but generally just sticking to the facts and managing to provide a Republican POV without pandering to the 'both sides' thing. And it's like crack, so hard to stop watching!

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 10:01

Just WHO is going to stage the intervention Trump needs?

His offspring are as deluded as he is.
Melania couldn't give a stuff.
McNinny thinks he is God's chosen one.
Bill Barr is God knows where, possibly sunning himself on a beach hundreds of miles away?

Who will finally say ENOUGH?

KenAdams · 06/11/2020 10:05

Can someone post the CNN live YouTube link again please?

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 10:06

AP are apparently calling Georgia for Biden.

Think this is slightly premature, but it does look like that its the result pending a recount.

pinkbalconyrailing · 06/11/2020 10:06

I have relatives in arizona.
total red-neck area. plus lots of issues with border crossing from mexico.

3ormorecharacters · 06/11/2020 10:07

@BruceAndNosh This is the problem... Most of the Republican party seem to be biding their time to see which way the wind is going to blow. It was quite funny yesterday to see Don Jr have a meltdown on Twitter that no one was coming to help them. Since then unfortunately Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham have both aligned themselves with Trump's 'fraud' message, which is disappointing and will be very damaging to democracy if other senior Republican figures follow suit. Hopefully they will soon start to calculate that Trump is finished, and with the lawsuits and scandals that are bound to plague him after he leaves office they are better off putting distance between themselves and him now. Hopefully. Otherwise we might seriously see the drift of America towards an authoritarian one-party state.

DumplingsAndStew · 06/11/2020 10:07

CNN have moved their live feed to here edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-biden-election-results-11-06-20/index.html

Should also have their live broadcast on it.

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 10:07

When will Arizona continue their count, in about 5/6 hours time?

MoonJelly · 06/11/2020 10:08

What is her motivation to be there at all I wonder? Is she jubilant at the thought of getting out of the straight jacket at last?

Quote is about Melania.

There has to have been a massive financial deal, and/or she's on hefty doses of tranquillisers to help her get through. She is so different from other FLOTUSes; I was going to say it was really weird, then I realised that actually it's entirely natural given who she's married to.

Apileofballyhoo · 06/11/2020 10:08

I think we're getting into dangerous territory now. The amount of misinformation out there is scary. I made the mistake of looking at Eric Trump's Twitter feed yesterday, terrifying. It's going to be very hard to put this genie back in the bottle. And now with Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham joining in the madness it looks like more of the mainstream GOP might be deciding to go along with it... Scary times

What have Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham said? Can't stick either of them

chloechloe · 06/11/2020 10:09

I think the best bet would be one of those safari vets in South Africa who can take down elephants with a tranquiliser gun.
BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 10:10

If there is a need for a recount under state laws (i.e. under their legal margin of error), I assume the state pays for it. But if Trump decides to challenge a load of different states on fraud grounds, I assume he will have to pay for any such recounts. He was well behind Biden in raising campaign funds. Will his base cough up? Or will he try to use Barr to do this, and make the tax payer pay?

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 10:10

Given that AP have already called Arizona, that would mean they are saying Biden is over the line. Even without Arizona, Trump can't win if he has lost Georgia anyway...

Apparently Fox have also called it...

From Guardian live feed:
It should be noted though that Georgia remains in ‘too close to call’ territory, and while the Associated Press and Fox News have called it for Biden, the Trump team still have hopes of turning that Arizona race around as more votes are counted.

Yes CNN reporting on Biden taking the lead. Do we dare to dream?
BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 10:11

Good point made on guardian Live update re Georgia votes
Also worth bearing in mind – the votes being counted now are not late votes, they are most likely to be some of the earliest votes cast by mail in the state

chloechloe · 06/11/2020 10:13

I was watching a programme the other night about the various First Ladies. Apparently Melania was asked if she would be with Trump if he weren’t rich. Her reply?: “Would he be with me if I weren’t beautiful?”

I think she’s somebody who was so desperate to get away from the place she was born that she would do pretty much anything. Watching their first dance when he became President is awful - you can see from their body language that she cannot stand him.

womanaf · 06/11/2020 10:14

The UK did show (the US) Fox News but we have rules about news outlets being accurate. When Murdoch was trying to buy/sell/merge something or other (I forget, sorry) and Fox’s ‘inaccuracies’ were a problem, their solution was to stop broadcasting Fox News in the UK rather than to fix the actual problem.

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 10:14

Recounts will take months.
Republicans will insist that every single vote for Biden is scrutinised to the nth degree, including visiting any mail in voter in person at their address.

PullTheBricksDown · 06/11/2020 10:15

CNN presenter just pointed out that even if you give house room to any of what Trump's saying, in Georgia that would mean 'a Republican governor and a Republican senator had done their candidate dirty. Does that make sense?'

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 10:16

I think the numbers are there for Georgia. Its just the recount issue.

So I think we are now looking at just how many Biden is ahead by to give him a cushion in Georgia.

I should add that Georgia have made a point of saying they have been going slower than they might otherwise because they are aware of how close it is and how they need accuracy to be above criticism.

Also worth noting the person in charge of elections in Georgia is a Trump appointed Republican...

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 10:17

Can someone indict Trump for commiting historic voter fraud for all those years he voted by mail?

TheMShip · 06/11/2020 10:17

From Guardian live feed:

I'm pretty sure they're referring to AP & Fox calling Arizona, not Georgia. No one has called Georgia.
