@MoonJelly

Is it just me, or have they been telling us since first thing this morning that they only had 1-2% of the vote still to count in most of the remaining states? Surely at some point that figure has to go down?

Only after the deadline for accepting postal votes has passed. Also 1% in some states is a lot of votes.

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 19:04

@Cacacoisfarraige

You forgot Pence and mother

Such a creepy fucker.

terrywynne · 06/11/2020 19:06

But they need to be charged/convicted first in order to get a pardon.

He'll be wishing they still had the medieval/early modern general pardon

ladybird303 · 06/11/2020 19:06

Does anyone know what Trump said at the end of his speech before he was cut off?

Roussette · 06/11/2020 19:07

Interestingly... I think it's covid that has seen Trump off. He disputed and maligned mail in votes (despite the fact he has used mail in all the time).

From an article...
the president has spent months undermining vote-by-mail’s integrity, despite members of his own campaign and administration, along with election watchdogs and the FBI, finding no evidence of widespread fraud – his supporters have echoed those claims, while Democrats have urged voters to cast their ballots safely by mail ahead of Election Day.

A number of states were not legally permitted by their Republican-controlled legislatures to process mail-in ballots until Election Day, and with potential surges in mail-in ballots amid the public health crisis and Democratic urgency, election workers have experienced delay producing results.

In recent litigation in Pennsylvania ahead of Election Day, the president’s re-election campaign also could not produce any evidence of vote-by-mail fraud.

A federal judge ordered the campaign to “produce such evidence in their possession, and if they have none, state as much”. In more than 500 pages of court filings, it produced evidence pointing to only a handful of election fraud cases, none of which involved mail-in ballots.

Via CNN

Sources close to the White House said some senior officials inside the White House and the campaign are beginning to quietly back away from Trump, in acts of self-preservation, as the returns in Pennsylvania and Georgia indicate the President will not win reelection.

"It's over," one key adviser to the administration said of the race. The adviser went on to say there are concerns about what Trump will do, beyond the question of whether he will concede the race.

"God. Who knows," the adviser said when asked what Trump might do next, conceding there were multiple officials in the campaign and the White House who were shaking their heads after Trump's litany of false statements Thursday evening in the White House briefing room.

Some in the campaign, the adviser said, questioned the Trump team's decision to dispatch the likes of Rudy Giuliani and Trump's sons to make unfounded allegations of voter fraud, arguing that likely diminished the president's claims of wrongdoing. The adviser said Trump is well within his rights to contest the election results but is going about it in exactly the wrong way.

Giuliani has been deployed.

You know its all over.

Oh yes! How could I forget Trumpy’s pet. Mother will be eyeing up the best China I expect.
Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 06/11/2020 19:16

Is PA going to finish today?

Zixxy · 06/11/2020 19:18

If Pennsylvania goes to Biden, there is absolutely NO reason for Trump to be ungracious in defeat. But if he does have a hissy fit, well we know that his term was ruled by decree. His way or the highway.

Honestly, the lack of dignity is just awful. He would garner much more respect if he conceded with decorum.

Playing to his audience I suppose.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 19:18

But they need to be charged/convicted first in order to get a pardon.

Not so. A presidential pardon is unconditional. Ford gave Nixon "a full and unconditional pardon for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president". This barred any and all federal indictments or trials no matter what may have been uncovered in the future.

I fully expect Scrotus to issue similar pardons for his entire family and all his minions. There is even a suggestion that he may attempt to pardon himself. Nixon thought about doing it before he resigned. Whether or not a POTUS actually has the power to pardon himself has never been tested. Nixon didn't want to try and fail so Ford did it for him.

The difference is that Nixon was involved in federal crimes only. Scrotus et al have a slew of state charges. A presidential pardon doesn't cover those, although I expect Scrotus to try.

His only 'guaranteed' way out would be to resign during the lame duck period and have Pence pardon him. Whether Pence would be willing to pardon the whole kit and caboodle of them, who knows? But Scrotus will throw them all under the bus if it means a way out for him.

Mrsmorton · 06/11/2020 19:19

There's a huge entourage of sycophants from my almost first hand knowledge. They're all part of the cult from photographers to bag carriers.

I bet the WH staff are looking forward to getting rid of that horrendous family.

DeRigueurMortis · 06/11/2020 19:22

Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many Presidential pardons he can issue?

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 19:23

@ladybird303 you can watch the whole Trump speech on the White House website.

There's a full transcript of it on the Indy here:
‘Lie after lie after lie’: Read Donald Trump’s speech in full

And a helpful fact-check here:

Zixxy · 06/11/2020 19:23

Re the pardons, some think America is right on and so modern etc.

But pardons like this from a Red SCOTUS sounds like a medieval set up to me. Justice from politically appointed judges, Honestly....

Roussette · 06/11/2020 19:23

I'm fascinated with the 'pardon yourself' capability that Trump has.

I'm wondering if PA is going to be called definitively, hence Biden's stage announcement tonight. I saw footage of them getting it all ready for later on.

please wait, I need sleep but can't stay away!

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 19:29

Sky news

What is Donald Trump's mood like?

Mr Trump's former adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman tells Sky News: "My sources in the West Wing tell me Donald Trump is in an awful mood. He has a short fuse today, he's snipping at everyone and he wants his attorneys to make this right.

"He wants them to stop the count, he is yelling at everyone to use their resources, their power, their money, whatever access they have to make it stop.

lyralalala · 06/11/2020 19:31

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he pardons himself and then uses the court system to argue it for as long as possible as a way to try and block/stall anything being laid against him.

DeRigueurMortis · 06/11/2020 19:32

A thought on the pardons - don't you have to have been convicted to earn a pardon?

In which case can he "pardon in perpetuity" members of his family who haven't "yet" been proven of any wrongdoing?

Wouldn't that also apply to himself?

Blueberries0112 · 06/11/2020 19:33

@Fredelliottisayfredelliott

Is PA going to finish today?
I doubt it, if it about waiting the mail to come in which some can take days, or checking about signatures of voters and who knows what else they need to do before they can count it
nauticant · 06/11/2020 19:34

Remember that most of what Trump learned about litigation came from Roy Cohn:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Cohn

It left him with the belief that if you have enough money to out-grind the other side and you attack aggressively enough, you're likely to get your own way.

ladybird303 · 06/11/2020 19:35

@PerkingFaintly thank you ever so!

HoldMyLobster · 06/11/2020 19:36

Just checking in. I've actually done a fuckton of work over the last couple of days while trying to pay attention to the election too, so I haven't had any time to join in here. But feeling quietly very very happy.

I see the 'Will Trump get re-elected' thread still has space for about 150 more comments about the liberal elite and biased meedja if anyone wants to restart that.

Hope you’re feeling happier too now Mrsmorton - your ex will be looking for a new job too I expect.

Lewis Goodall @lewis_goodall

One county in the US has picked the winner in every presidential election since 1916, save for once (1988): Blaine County, Montana.

Blaine voted for Donald Trump in 2016.

With nearly all the votes in, Joe Biden is carrying Blaine County.

Biden: 1589 (51%)
Trump: 1469 (47.1%)

Nixon wasn't convicted of anything when Ford pardoned him.
