@Roussette

Knew it. No way would he attend and be a loser.

www.politicususa.com/2020/11/06/trump-boycott-biden.html

Sources close to Donald Trump are saying that they expect the defeated then former president to “boycott” Joe Biden’s inauguration

No surprise there.

"If you don't play my way I'll take my ball and go straight home!!"

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:35

Biden's lead has increased to 22,076 in Nevada, basically doubling his lead. (Clark County update)

Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:37

Also Across I've read in a couple of places that when he leaves the WH for the Thanksgiving break, he may well not come back.

I put the Biden Transition team. There will be no transition or handing over.

@Fredelliottisayfredelliott

How long do we give Melania to apply for divorce? She must be delighted Grin
I reckon the paperwork is signed and enveloped on her desk and has been for months 😁
Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:38

I PITY not put

MrsMigginsMate · 06/11/2020 16:39

Trump refusing to attend the inauguration is a strangely good move if you consider his motivation to push the fraud narrative. He will come across as honourable and taking a stand against corruption to his main supporters, rather than a big baby having a strop. Its really quite worrying how much of this mud he's slinging will end up sticking as far as the electorate are concerned.

PathThreeTwoOne · 06/11/2020 16:40

I’ll admit that I don’t know enough about Kamala Harris so I’m curious, setting aside the fact that she is a woman and multi ethnic, as to why people believe she’ll do well?

For someone to say that she believes the women who accused Biden of inappropriate behaviour and also called him out on his past regarding segregation, to then accepting being his Vice President, doesn’t strike me as someone with the best principles. She then justified doing the above, by claiming “it was just a debate” whilst laughing it off.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 06/11/2020 16:41

When will we hear the final results (before tromp statues screaming that he wasn’t a recount of all the votes)?

There’s going to be a film of this isn’t there?

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 16:42

@PerkingFaintly

It's almost as if people are prepared to judge individual politicians on the politician's actual views and record rather than skin colour.

While at the same time not wanting anyone to be held back from becoming a politician by their skin colour.

How dare we not be simplistic and tribal!Grin

So to answer your question, BlueCatRedCat, this white person will be delighted if people of colour are inspired by Patel, or Sunak, or Khan, or Harris, or Obama, to feel they can go into politics if they want to.

Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with them when they get there. I didn't agree with Margaret Thatcher either.

Well, hallelujah, because that takes me back to the point I made originally, when someone upthread suggested Kamala Harris would not win against Ivanka Trump because of her race; and I suggested that a country that elected Obama twice could be trusted to judge them on their values and record of service, not the colour of their skin.
Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 06/11/2020 16:42

Melania will be an interesting character to hear from in due course, she must have book deals and interview offers stacked up. She will make a fortune unless she has signed a NDA as part of her pre nup. Which she most likely has.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 06/11/2020 16:42

Its really quite worrying how much of this mud he's slinging will end up sticking as far as the electorate are concerned. This cannot be overstated and is exactly why this rhetoric is so dangerous on so many levels, including to the values of democracy.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 06/11/2020 16:43

Kamala has a long and distinguished law career, and achieved elected office through it. She is competent and God knows that's what they need now.

CaveMum · 06/11/2020 16:43

There was a really interesting programme on the BBC a few years ago called “Will Britain Ever See a Black Prime Minister?”. More info here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3PzrtXmfxlVQWpkVb7D615X/will-britain-ever-see-a-black-prime-minister-the-probability-model

It made me chuckle as one of our local 6th Forms got mentioned as a feeder college for Oxbridge - it’s in Cambridge, so kind of stands to reason but I was amused to see it on a list alongside Eton, Harrow and Westminster!

Three presidents have refused to attend their succesor's inauguration.

John Adams
"Relations had reached such lows that Adams wasn’t present on the day of Jefferson’s inauguration. It took more than a decade for them to resume their friendship."

John Q Adams
"When the election results were announced, Jackson had won, his supporters stormed the White House, and Adams had to escape through the back."

Andrew Johnson
"Ulysses S. Grant, had refused to sit next to him in the carriage. Johnson remained in the White House during the ceremony."

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 16:43

I'm sure the Biden team would be delighted if Trump boycotted the inauguration in 2021. Can't imagine many of them begging trump to change his mind.

If he can't behave with appropriate respect (and obviously he can't) then he shouldn't be present. It's Biden's day. Would spoil things to have him there with a face on him in the background. Let him sulk and stay away - it only looks 'honourable' to those who already support him anyway. Pence can attempt to step up and behave like the adult in the room.
MorrisZapp · 06/11/2020 16:44

Are President and Vice President honorary lifelong terms? Lots of people calling Biden 'Vice President Biden'.

Sounds great but if so then Donald Trump will be entitled to be named President Trump until death?

Yes I'm pretty sure that's how it works
DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 16:46

Nate Cohn @nate_cohn
Biden now up 1.7 points in Nevada. That ought to be enough for projections...

DuncinToffee · 06/11/2020 16:50

FiveThirtyEight @FiveThirtyEight

We just got more than 30,000 of the almost 200,000 ballots that had been remaining to count in Nevada.

Biden won the batch, 66% to 31%.

Biden now leads statewide in Nevada by 1.8 percentage points.
