But Priti Patel or Rishi Sunak as PM will be the worst thing ever according to posters on this thread confused

Well, I can't speak to others on the thread. Personally, I do not agree with their politics (and particularly with Priti Patel's policies) so naturally I would prefer a situation where they were not Prime Minister.

However, I consider the fact they are in government a good think from an 'excellent government in this country isn't all upper class, white men' perspective.

Here you go @AcrossthePond55. From my new favourite site alex.github.io/nyt-2020-election-scraper/battleground-state-changes.html

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 16:21

So brown children are only allowed to be inspired by the right sort of brown person according to white liberals?

Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:22

There is nothing good about Priti Patel. I find her objectionable. Her record on human rights is awful

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:22

They're calling the AZ Senate race for Mark Kelly (D). Seats now appear tied 48-48, with the other two seats heading for a runoff.

Nancydrawn · 06/11/2020 16:22

So excited for Mark Kelly out in AZ. He's a lovely person and his wife is a hero. Plus Martha McSally went full Trump and is awful.

RhubarbTea · 06/11/2020 16:23

@BonnieDundee

Day after Brexit, Bojo will be gone like a rat from a sinking ship. And then we may get Rishior imagine Priti🤮

Or Gove - heaven help us Sad

I 100% think we will end up with Gove as PM. The horror. Based on nothing but my instinct and really really being able to picture him as PM.
CaveMum · 06/11/2020 16:23

Controversial, but I quite like Rishi. Comes from a much more identifiable background than the majority of the Cabinet and you don’t see negative stories about him, unlike the rest of the shower. He’s definitely more of a centrist than many of them, which is what the country needs.

Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:24

I always thought that Gove was pretty unpopular amongst the party? Maybe I have that wrong

Delphinium20 · 06/11/2020 16:24

Placemarking and here to say it was encouraging to see PA AND Georgia turn to Joe. It's a long slog isn't it?

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:24

OMG @CaveMum I'm getting so excited that I completely forgot that I bookmarked that website when you posted it earlier!

I'm getting addlepated and discombobulated.

Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:25

Has Mark Kelly got in?

Singasonga · 06/11/2020 16:25

Competence is usually a key attribute of being inspirational, yes.
anon444877 · 06/11/2020 16:25

I've not seen enough yet to say I'm not a rishi fan, but I can't see anyone making a success of brexit post covid.

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 16:27

I can't decide which Fox anchor I want to admit Biden has won. Possibly Hannity but preferably Ingraham. She's so sneery.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:28

@Roussette

Has Mark Kelly got in?
MSNBC has called it for Kelly. Not sure about the other networks.
AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:29

Pushed enter too soon. MSNBC has been pretty 'reserved' about calling races so far, so if they're saying Kelly's in, I feel pretty confident.

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 16:30

It's almost as if people are prepared to judge individual politicians on the politician's actual views and record rather than skin colour.

While at the same time not wanting anyone to be held back from becoming a politician by their skin colour.

How dare we not be simplistic and tribal!Grin

So to answer your question, BlueCatRedCat, this white person will be delighted if people of colour are inspired by Patel, or Sunak, or Khan, or Harris, or Obama, to feel they can go into politics if they want to.

Doesn't mean I'm going to agree with them when they get there. I didn't agree with Margaret Thatcher either.

AcrossthePond55 · 06/11/2020 16:31

@BruceAndNosh

They'll never use the word 'won'. 'Stole' or 'won illegally', maybe. But they won't say 'won' without a qualifier.
StatisticallyChallenged · 06/11/2020 16:31

In the context of choosing a tory leader - not a Tory - I'd prefer Rishi over Patel or Gove, because both Patel and Gove seem incompetent twats.

But politicians should be as diverse as the country is - and that should mean that any young person regardless of sex or ethnicity should be able to look at politicians and see someone sort of like them so that politics seems available to them. I don't think their individuals politics actually matter in that context and I think it's great that the Tories have had two female PMs, I like that at one point the main Scottish parties all had female leaders, and I think having a party leader or PM who isn't white would be a positive thing too.

BruceAndNosh · 06/11/2020 16:31

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Roussette · 06/11/2020 16:31

Knew it. No way would he attend and be a loser.

www.politicususa.com/2020/11/06/trump-boycott-biden.html

Sources close to Donald Trump are saying that they expect the defeated then former president to “boycott” Joe Biden’s inauguration

Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 06/11/2020 16:32

This is grueling!

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 16:32

Via CNN

Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, a member of the Senate GOP leadership, said President Trump has a right to want to make sure all legal votes are counted. However, he warned the President needs to be consistent:

“You can't stop the count in one state and decide you want the count to continue in another state. That might be how you'd like to see the system work, but that's not how the system works.”

Blunt, who as Rules Committee chairman is heavily involved in inaugural planning, said he expects the election outcome to be concluded in the next 10 days or so.

“Part of the obligation of leadership is you should always have in your mind how do I leave,” he said.

Pressure building on Trump...

...more and more republicans saying 'enough!'

Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 06/11/2020 16:33

How long do we give Melania to apply for divorce? She must be delighted Grin
