How any military person could vote for Trump is utterly beyond me

showmethegin · 06/11/2020 01:17

I've never seen anything in my life like Trumps speech earlier on, it was like watching a president have a mental breakdown live on TV. It is frightening what he is doing to America, he has so many devoted supporters I am genuinely afraid for the safety of people in the states, especially those involved with the counts and also Joe Biden. I really hope they step up Bidens security from what must already be sky high as I genuinely believe a trump supporter could take a shot at him.

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 01:18

I assume they are aware of how many Georgia resident military personnel there are. It may well be the case that they can be certain that their vote will not wipe out a Biden lead.

LarkDescending · 06/11/2020 01:19

In 2016, military voters cast 5,203 absentee ballots in Georgia, according to the Election Assistance Commission.

He will have a secret service detail, both as a presidential candidate and as a former VP (I think they get them for life, just like ex presidents). I am more worried about the poor civilians counting the votes and being branded frauds and enemies of democracy.

I’m genuinely concerned about the safety of the people counting votes. Trump literally accused them of fraudulent behaviour whilst he and his grim offspring call for “total war”.

EveryoneRevealsThemselves · 06/11/2020 01:22

@BlueCatRedCat Great minds!

Inkpaperstars · 06/11/2020 01:23

I wonder if people around Trump are reflecting back at him his bizarre insistence that he 'won' (in the past tense) some of these states simply by being ahead at some point, a point at which no reasonable person suggested the legal votes had all been counted. He talks as if the election in those states was some time ago, not still ongoing.

Giuliani and the sons seem to tell him whatever he wants to hear, I hope someone else is getting the medication collected.

showmethegin · 06/11/2020 01:27

No I completely agree with both of you. Of all the people whose safety is at risk Biden is the least vulnerable although the most visible.

That Trump still has his finger on the button for the next 3 months is terrifying. Is there a way that a president can be removed if unwell? He certainly seems it.

I keep reminding myself that this is the president. Mind blowing

lyralalala · 06/11/2020 01:30

"You know, every time Donald thinks things are not going in his direction he calims whatever it is is rigged against him. He lost the Iowa caucus. He lost the Wisconsin primary. He said the Republican primary was rigged against him.
Then Trump University gets sued for fraud and racketeering; he claims the court system and the federal judge is rigged against him.
There was even a time when he didn't get an Emmy for his TV programme three years in a row, and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged against him.
This is a mindset. This is how Donald thinks. And it's funny, but it's also really troubling.
No, that is not the way our democracy works."

Hilary Clinton's summary of him was pretty accurate.

lyralalala · 06/11/2020 01:30

That was 4 years ago in their debates.

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 01:31

CNN projecting Biden to win Pennsylvania with in excess of 40K votes, based on the percentage of votes he has been taking from the ballot counts coming in.

showmethegin · 06/11/2020 01:32

I also can't help but think you reap what you sow re the republicans. They were happy to elect as trump as candidate 4 years ago knowing he was unstable, volatile, egotistical, unqualified and completely sociopathic. If they don't start standing up very soon and pointing out the lies and slander and violent agenda I can't see them getting in for a long time. Sure trump has his diehard supporters but all those undecided voters, they are watching democracy being pulled apart live on tv, how could they ever vote for them again?

chloechloe · 06/11/2020 01:33

Have been woken up by DD2 (3) as per usual but I’ll let her off today! It’s a shame I missed Trump’s last appearance, I’ll watch it back in the morning. Sounds like he’s acting like a tantrumming toddler.

I’m now hoping nothing will happen for 4 hours or so so I can sleep and not miss anything!

Pennsylvania have now resorted to hand counting as the machines weren't processing everythiing so they have slowed down.

We need Biden to over take as no one will call the election until he does.

cantdothisnow1 · 06/11/2020 01:35

I need some sleep but I can't sleep. When is it likely that Pennsylvania will announce as i thought the Secretary of State had suggested sooner than later?

My understanding is its running closer than expected but there are less votes to count. So I think it likely it will be later rather than sooner especially if they are counting by hand.

25th Amendment procedure simplified:

There are four sections to the 25th Amendment, each dealing with a different aspect of presidential or vice presidential succession.

Section 1 says the president is replaced by the vice president if he dies or resigns. Section 2 says replacement vice presidents must be confirmed by a majority of both chambers of Congress. Section 3 allows the president to voluntarily and temporarily transfer duties to the vice president.

And Section 4 allows the vice president and cabinet — or another entity chosen by Congress — to take power from the president without the chief executive’s consent.

Pennsylvania is not imminent - 6% still to be counted.
RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 01:39

I think I'm going to have to bail too. I was hoping Georgia would be in by now but clearly not.

Wish me luck waking up tomorrow (i slept through the alarm this morning).

Good luck america. I hope tonight isn't a rough night...

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 01:42

Oh God, hand counting! Poor sods. So much respect for these election officers. They will be earning minimum wage and, thanks to President Wankstain, potentially risking their lives and livelihoods. I hope he doesn't try to sue them as individuals. I hope nobody tries to harm them when this is all over.

PerkingFaintly · 06/11/2020 01:43

Take care everyone. Sleep well.

See you tomorrow.

And thank you for being here. I don't think I'd be doing too well if I were alone just now.

BlueCatRedCat · 06/11/2020 01:44

As Edward R Murrow used to say: Goodnight and good luck.

G'night @RedToothBrush. And thanks for all the updates and calculations.

See ya tomorrow!

That Trump speech was just bonkers, even after 4 years of bonkerness.

Surely the Republicans are going to have to wake up and get a damn firm grip of their guy now, before he does irreversible damage? He still has until January to go!
