To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

@LioneIRichTea

His followers r in a cult and it will take years for them to he deprogrammed , they parrot all the same stuff.

Some of the things they believe are batshit. QAnon, Pizzagate, Clinton’s murdering babies and drinking their blood to stay young...and they seriously believe it! 🙈

There are people on here who believe it. It’s blood libel repackaged.

He has destabilised the biggest democracy in the world. He maybe a sad delusional individual, but he's accountable for that. Given enough leeway, I have no doubt he would be as violent as Milosevic was in Yugoslavia.

'I feel sorry for Trump, but then I quite like him. I'll miss him when we go back to boring pc politics where everyone talks a good talk but nothing really changes.'

-never have I seen a more clear display of what 'privilege' means as a political idea

Yes many despotic leaders have given us change
We've lived through decades of relative peace in the west, after centuries of war.
PC politics might be boring for you but as we approach Remembrance Sunday, i think there are millions who died in 20thC wars who would have longed for the boring you so easily dismiss.

Trump is no better than an Assad or any other tyrant (who also attract a strong following, hence why you like him, these people can be very charismatic) fortunately the USA's checks and balances held him in check but without them he would have murdered his way to stay in the White House.

I just hope that once Trump is gone, the UK will kick out our populist PM who has done so much to sow discord within the UK.

World War 1 and 2 were changes as well. Unfortunately the social good that came out of them, that had to come out of them to prevent another, has been overturned by those who have forgotten where extremes lead.

Trump is a deranged child playing with matches who doesn’t understand they cause fire. He would rather watch his country burn than take small blow to his ego, rather destroy the world than concede a little of his vast privilege. I do not feel sorry for such a man. If you play at that level you have to take some responsibility.

Sparklesocks · 07/11/2020 11:36

Nah. I feel sorry for the enormous amount of people his words and actions have hurt. You don’t get to cause the harm that he does and have me feel bad when he discovers your actions have consequences.

If someone spends all of their time kicking and teasing animals then I’m not going to be sympathetic to that person when those animals bite back.

Baluchistan95 · 07/11/2020 18:07

😂😂😂
Yep, the Chinese will be celebrating this evening, Lol. How's Hunter doing, these days?
GwendolineMarysLaces · 07/11/2020 18:25

One of the best things about this is that a truly horrifying person is getting his comeuppance. Happens so rarely. So no, OP, in fact we are about to open the bubbles in this house.

Defenbaker · 07/11/2020 18:46

I did feel slightly sorry for him, a few days ago, just because it must be hard for anyone to lose their job so publically. However, he has behaved so badly and been so irrational about the results, that any sympathy I had has completely drained away. He is in complete denial and is inciting people to violence, which will only create more division and suffering in his country, but he doesn't care what happens, he is completely self absorbed. I'm pleased about Biden's victory, but fearful about what sort of parting gift Trump will leave behind him.

Peregrina · 07/11/2020 19:00

But winning or losing is part of a politicians lot, so why should we feel sorry for him., especially given the amount of hatred he's served up? Other defeated incumbents like Carter, and Bush were able to concede with dignity.

longwayoff · 07/11/2020 19:37

He's not a politician. He's a charlatan, a chancer, a conman, a poltroon, a dodgy salesman whose day is not complete unless he's pulled a fast one so he can feel like a WINNER! A stranger to dignity.

Holothane · 07/11/2020 19:47

No this is karma big time.

TinkersRucksack · 07/11/2020 19:52

Sorry? Fuck no.

I hope that he gets so upset about losing the election that he soils himself.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 07/11/2020 20:01

@TinkersRucksack

Sorry? Fuck no.

I hope that he gets so upset about losing the election that he soils himself.

Pretty sure I can smell it from here.
DrDavidBanner · 07/11/2020 20:11

Is this like when my mum watches a rare World Cup match and starts feeling sorry for the losing team? Grin

No I don't feel sorry for him at all, his inexperience in politics has shown in the way he's behaved this year and the way hes behaving now. His disrespect of the American democratic process and the way he has sown doubt in the minds of the American electorate is unforgiveable

tartanti · 07/11/2020 20:33

Hope you're doing ok OP

I’m well thanks @JesusInTheCabbageVan - thank you for asking! Grin

I’d like to leave this thread with five positive things that Trump achieved as president:

Best of luck to the Bidens! Grin

Yay, the world can relax

Mayorquimby2 · 07/11/2020 21:04

No fuck him.
I hope this slow public breakdown continues and he lives out his remaining years bitter and shouting in the wind.

He fucking deserves to know he's a figure of ridicule and is hated the world over.

Unfortunately he's so bankable with his crowd now that he'll probably be able to leverage his way out of his debts through media contacts and donors. The Dems are unlikely to push to prosecute him but hopefully nyc go after him.
It would be preferable if he was to finish his life as a criminal too but hey we'll take our wins where we can
