To feel sorry for Trump?

tartanti · 04/11/2020 21:27

I’ve name changed for this as I know I will get completely flamed. But AIBU to secretly feel a little bit sorry for Trump? He campaigned so hard for this election compared to Biden and seemed to put his absolute all into it.

The amount of hate he gets on social media is astounding - I honestly don’t know how one person can handle all that and keep on going. I would have had a nervous breakdown or worse by now if I was on the receiving end of that.

His kids clearly love him and they seem alright - perhaps he’s not so bad behind the scenes? I think losing this election will destroy him as a person and whilst I don’t agree with his political viewpoint, I can’t help but feel slightly sorry for the guy.

AIBU?

Oh Gods yes, Johnson is equally vile. Just in different ways!

Ylvamoon · 05/11/2020 20:13

I think that half of his media performances are really "The Trump Show" and not a real picture of him as a family man. He is a puppet with more powerful people pulling the strings in the background.

But I also think that he is a very self-centered individual. I do think that, there is some space for his children & wider family. He even cares in a patriarchal way...

Really just a child of his own time: white, privileged male over 60. Still believes that he can get away with anything because he always has.
So based on the above, I wouldn't feel sorry for him.

StuartNorwich · 05/11/2020 20:14

@mbosnz

When you say he's family orientated, have you seen the book his niece wrote about him? And interestingly, he hasn't sued for defamation. . .

@StuartNorwich

Other countries doing poorly in their covid response does not mitigate the appalling response that has meant needless deaths, as a result of Trump's hubris, and his inability to accept expert opinion that does not correspond to his personal opinion. Dr Fauci, for example.

I know more American women that consider him a misogynist than do not, but I accept that may not be representative, because of my personal echo chamber of friends and acquaintances. I do know some people who do not, although the only ones I do know myself are middle class white males.

I pointed out that millions aren't voting for him, to balance your point that millions are. Yes, I understand how democracy works. I come from a genuinely democratic country, rather than from one that merely postures as one. . . whose democracy appears to be balanced on a knife-edge.

What appalling policies are you referring to ? The ones where he closed borders early stopping foreign travel particularly from China where he was lambasted by Liberals or a picture of him in the Guardian newspaper not wearing a mask?
mbosnz · 05/11/2020 20:14

Trump doesnt value Mexican/ black lives? Why is that?.. because he wants to control immigration as any sane nation would not overstretching resources leading to poverty for it's indigenous population as we now see in the Uk with resources /housing/healthcare unable to cope with the highest population density in Europe bar Malta

I think that poster was possibly referring to the American Muslim, black and Hispanic origin population. You know, actual Americans?

longwayoff · 05/11/2020 20:15

Nate White. Commendable piece of writing and accurate character assessment.

Are we talking about the black lives matter movement which is an anti capitalist marxist movement burning down peoples businesses and homes over the death of George Floyd?

I think we all agree George Floyd didn't deserve to be killed and the police responsible were rightly arrested but lets also remember someone who threatened to blow a baby out of a pregnant womans stomach whilst committing a robbery having done jail time for it is no martyr either

tartanti · 05/11/2020 20:31

You are absolutely nuts. He has not a shred of empathy for others, don’t waste yours on him.

I don’t believe that’s how empathy works, but thanks anyway @ChaToilLeam Smile

You realise that people on here can say anything they like about Donald Trump. Any sort of speculation is allowed
Wrenna · 05/11/2020 20:41

Do you live in the US? Yab massively U!

StuartNorwich · 05/11/2020 20:44

Stick to your guns OP, it takes some courage to go against the grain and voice a view which leads to endless abuse. If this forum was in America you would have around half the population agreeing with you but on here you will get insulted or closed down.

My main issue with Trump and indeed the Americans are the gun laws tbh which I have never understood as to why it is a " civilians right" to bear arms that can end life so easily.

MrsBonnie · 05/11/2020 20:44

I don’t feel sorry for him, but I do think people are deluded if they think that 1. Other politicians aren’t just as bad (although less public with their evils) and 2. The media hasn’t skewed it so that the positive things he’s done have been completely hidden.

I abhor some of his quotes and actions. He has said some vile things in the past, and his attitude to women is disgusting. I just can’t see how other presidents and politicians who’ve made similarly horrible decisions have received the same hate. The fact Trump is so open and public with his unpopular opinions and speech make him more of a target. Just my two pence!

InsideOfEmptiness · 05/11/2020 21:03

a collection of hysterical far left women that spend their days on mumsnet getting their facts from social media watching Judge rinder thinking they understand the law.

Well that was a spectacular bit of misogyny, Stuart. Because of course, if a woman dares to say anything you disagree with, she is hysterical. And women only ever get information on current affairs from social media. We don't ever read/watch the news, no, not at all. And of course, women only ever think that we understand things like 'the law'.

You are an utterly odious misogynistic piece of shit.

so there we have it , another liberal view at it's finest. Thank God people like you stay online on your pyjamas reading twitter instead of positions of any authority in the real world. Scream shout and abuse when all else fails- if you actually watched the news you would realise over 70 million Americans can see beyond your description of Trump as Hitler sending people to the gas chambers.
chickenyhead · 05/11/2020 21:19

Indigenous American = Native American

And we all know how they are treated!

I feel Stuart and Dan are the same person. There cannot be 2 such deluded people.

thebuntingcat · 05/11/2020 21:19

I’ve been watching Donald Trump in fascinated horror for over four years now, and all I can say about him is that he doesn’t appear to have a single saving grace.
How can you feel sorry for such a rude, boorish, arrogant, aggressive and misogynistic bully who has no filter and no empathy?

StuartNorwich · 05/11/2020 21:23

Incidentally misogyny is prejudice against women, as many women like the Op aren't male that rules out the misogyny nonsense again which is always peddled out mostly when it isn't there. Most women don't talk about Hitler and the gas chambers... my issue is with your views - don't hide behind your gender as a victim of misogyny, do you want to be addressed as a far left man? Millions of American women who have seen the American economy thrive before covid for themselves and their children would say you are talking utter rubbish. Why should the views of millions of native American women be ignored over a dunce on mumsnet calling people "pieces of sh1t"?

StuartNorwich · 05/11/2020 21:25

Are you saying 70 million Americans are deluded with millions of women in that number? Maybe it's you who is the misogynist .. take a day off fb/twitter and open your eyes
chickenyhead · 05/11/2020 21:27

OK Dan, you know best, being a man and all.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 05/11/2020 21:29

Why feel sorry for him

To feel sorry for Trump?
StuartNorwich · 05/11/2020 21:29

Another one hiding behind gender, any male poster that disagrees with you is accused of discrimination against women. You destroy cases of actual discrimination with your virtue signalling nonsense - go on tell me Im racist , homophobic , transphobic you know you want to. Get them all out
Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 05/11/2020 21:31

I mean someone has made a rubber duck of him 😂
Who'd want him in your bath tub or anywhere else tbfh

SpongeWorthy · 05/11/2020 21:33

Remember that time @StuartNorwich mansplained misogyny to a group of women? Impressive stuff.

mbosnz · 05/11/2020 21:33

Are you alright there? Perhaps a nice cup of tea and a lie down? Because you're sounding a little bit. . . well, if you were a woman. . . I think you might think you were sounding a tad hysterical. . .

chickenyhead · 05/11/2020 21:34

Dan you need to go and calm down.

Trump may have managed to con Americans, but he doesn't fool the rest of the world. We don't watch Fox news.

He is the laughing stock of world leaders, followed closely by Boris.

Putin is rubbing his little hands together in glee.
