Still keeping my fires and toast crossed here, till the fat lady has sung!

SabrinaThwaite · 04/11/2020 13:21

Michigan reporting that they should finish counting later today.

Thesearmsofmine · 04/11/2020 13:22

It’s fascinating seeing it play out, almost like a film plot.

HMSSophie · 04/11/2020 13:22

I have an ear worm from The Milk Carton Kids "Michigan".

boatyardblues · 04/11/2020 13:24

@Roussette

I wonder what Melania is thinking. It could be 4 days before she can file for divorce. Or 4 years.
I thought that in the shower this morning. Alternatively, she could end up stuck in the bunker under the White House a la Eva Braun ‘til special forces winkle her husband out.
Phoenix21 · 04/11/2020 13:24

FFS - I’ve deadlines today so can the world hit the pause button!

Thank you for these threads, they’ve seen me through IVF/Pregnancy/mat leave and toddlerhood.

But for the love of god, I’m skipping so many pages 😢🤣

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 04/11/2020 13:25

Even if trump loses what the republicans did in Miami-dade is a huge win and will probably continue in their favour forever.

Phoenix21 · 04/11/2020 13:26

Yes @Thesearmsofmine. And the film plot is moving so fast, there’s no value in reading back as that’s now obsolete!

I was going to ask for a swift update but life is moving so fast it’s old news before it can be written.

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 04/11/2020 13:26

Fires and toasts sound far more appealing that fingers and toes.
occa · 04/11/2020 13:31

Jeez this is stressful. Is it too early have a glass of wine?

(Sadly yes, since it's 0930 in the morning here and I've got work deadlines today)

I already had a brownie for breakfast Blush

Msloverlover · 04/11/2020 13:33

I went for a walk on the beach and made peace with another 4 years of Trump. And now this! Also enjoying playing with this: www.nbcnews.com/specials/road-to-270-2020/

MrsMigginsMate · 04/11/2020 13:35

I've been lurking on some pro trump sections of Reddit to get a feel for how they're taking this. They genuinely believe that election fraud has occured with the mail in ballots, that the votes ended up in unsafe hands before being counted.

But here's the kicker, like with all conspiracy theories they say there's no point investigating it because the people who do the investigating are in on it too!

And there's loads of weird rhetoric about "the establishment" now taking over and the common man no longer has any autonomy. Biden seems to represent the establishment to them, I can't say I understand what they mean really? I honestly think they will come out in force in the next election and we will get someone ridiculous again. They're hell bent on believing Trump's fraud claims and will never accept Biden as legitimate if he wins. These people exist in an echo chamber and I'm terrified to think they will never see reality, only heavily curated Facebook memes.

Maybe next time it will be Kanye's year...shudder

Completmentfille · 04/11/2020 13:36

Omg Wisconsin is taking forever! Can't bloody cope with it!!!

HoldMyLobster · 04/11/2020 13:41

It took me ages to read this thread and it was like riding a rollercoaster! I slept from 11pm to about 7am, so missed it all and am now catching up.

I'm peeved that Susan Collins is winning, as I thought Gideon was a better candidate, but I can live with it.

The rest is nail-biting.

KungFuWeetabix · 04/11/2020 13:43

Michegan still nailbitingly close...

MrsMigginsMate · 04/11/2020 13:43

I'm putting money on Trump running away to a non-extradition country to avoid the myriad of court cases waiting for him when he's no longer president. The bugger will get away with it too.

anon444877 · 04/11/2020 13:45

I don't think it'll be that close overall - the election results strategy on many of the news sites has not changed enough to factor the surge in mail in votes.

It looks worse for Biden because all the news coverage is looking for constant updates and the surge in turnout alone means it would anyway take longer than any other election since 1900!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/11/2020 13:47

@AcrossthePond55

Checking in and checking out. I've been up since 3 am, it's after midnight now and I'm so tired that I can no longer retain anything I'm hearing.

Keep fighting the good fight. I'll see you all here in a few hours.

Oh, and to PP above. Yes, we have the stamina to keep these threads going IF need be. But I haven't given up yet.

@AcrossthePond55 - hope you got a good night's sleep. It seems as if there may not be a need to keep these threads going, though I am glad you and @Roussette have the stamina, but I think you are waking up to a slightly different, more optimistic world than before you went to bed last night. (Although I cannot get over why there was not a Blue Tsunami, nor the feeling that many of the electorate are like turkeys voting for Christmas, but I have learned some reasons why I am wrong to think that from some voters' points of view. I am still bigly sad, though, that lying and fake news have become so widely acceptable to so many voters. And that the media did not nip this fake news in the bud 4 years ago, when he first started with his inauguration crowd numbers, and just let his lies go unreported.)
MaudTheInvincible · 04/11/2020 13:53

Is it too much to hope that if Trump loses the world will stop feeling so doom-laden?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/11/2020 13:54

I think that depends on your take on Brexit, @MaudTheInvincible. And the handling of the pandemic by whichever country you are in. Ditto climate change.

CaveMum · 04/11/2020 13:54

Don’t forget that even if he loses, Trump will still be around till inauguration in January and he could cause havoc in that time. These threads will keep running for a while yet I suspect...

When I play with that I get them both coming in under 270 Confused assuming Biden gets NV, AZ, WI and MI and trump the rest... No winner.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 04/11/2020 13:56

Oh and ME for Biden too.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/11/2020 13:57

Yes, this couple of months of non handover period is strange to me. From that point of view, the UK version is much better. You lose, you leave and your successor moves in within hours, if not minutes!

Aibu to think the same about Johnson ?

Nope - au contraire - I suspect that there's even more worms in that particular can, if you will pardon the insult to those useful and productive annelids.
