JustSaying101 · 03/11/2020 19:55

Intrigued to see who everyone thinks will win the current US presidential elections? I wouldn't personally vote for Trump, but I think he will manage to win another term. What do you think?

YABU = Trump will win
YANBU = Biden will win

Georgia is at 98% counted and Trump is leading by about 18000 votes, so very narrow.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 12:59

Okay, so let me explain.

Postal votes are usually checked by observers from both parties, this is normal in most democracies that run postal votes. This time though, observers were forbidden to do spot checks on postal votes and can validate that the ones that were checked were indeed authentic and genuine. The usual processes were not in place due to covid, so unbelievably the postal vote went ahead without the protective procedures in place.

Leaving Biden vulnerable to a very difficult court battle.

This is no surprise to anyone given how close the election is now.

There is now a legal case for the Republicans to argue fraud, and it will be fast tracked to the Supreme Court of course given the importance and significance of election fraud, and as six of the eight Judges are Republican it is perfectly possible that it may be proved that some states did not adhere to proper processes - the postal votes will be removed. If that happens Biden will not and can not win.

What is slightly more terrifying in my view is so many news channels, BBC etc all saying It is a done deal for Biden, that is fake news in the words of Trump himself. It is certainly NOT a done deal, one only wishes it was.

Indeed if postal election fraud is proven, there is precedent for removal of all postal votes in affected states where election fraud was found. It will make it much easier for the SC to conclude their findings with precedents already in place. It may not happen, but it is a possibility.

Woodentopper · 05/11/2020 13:10

The Americans keep forcing it all down our throats about how it is the greatest nation on earth.

They can't be that great if they can't count a few pieces of paper without making a ball ups up of it.

Clarich007 · 05/11/2020 13:12

I can't abide Trump.I thought I hated Thatcher....I live in South Yorkshire so you can see why,.... but she was an angel compared to him.
If the boot was on the other foot wouldn't Trump want every vote counted ?
He's so hypocritical among many other things !!

If I were a voter, I'd want the election to be re-run in that eventuality - not for my vote to be wiped out.
PullTheBricksDown · 05/11/2020 13:12

The message coming from anywhere other than Trump's camp though is that postal voting fraud is very rare. Presumably that precedent can be referenced? And wouldn't you have to show evidence of fraud, not just assume it's happened?

WitchesSpelleas · 05/11/2020 13:14

I can't abide Trump.I thought I hated Thatcher.

Ha ha! One thing about Trump is that he makes Boris look almost sensible!

Brightonbabe5 · 05/11/2020 13:17

Wasn't this Trump's plan all along though - to blame the postal vote? His legal team have had weeks to research & come up with a strong claim.. So he could still win by default?

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 13:20

witches postal votes were removed in Florida in the same scenario, although I agree, far better to rerun the votes in my view. I am not sure how practical that will be for four states....given the size. It is an unknown.

pull if you hated Trump as much as some Americans do perhaps you would resort to anything to remove him no?

brighton I think postal votes were always going to be an issue, given the sheer volume of them due to covid. I am wary because the legalities. Obviously a landslide on either side would have removed all possibility of any legal action, but that ship has sailed.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 13:23

Trump is really quiet. Worryingly so!

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 13:24

Penns is looking much more likely to be a Trump win looking at the count.

Mittens030869 · 05/11/2020 13:36

Trump is really quiet. Worryingly so!

In fairness he's probably been asleep, when you consider the time difference. He'll probably start posting again soon.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 13:37

@Ihaveyourback BBC isn't saying Biden win anywhere, they're being cautious and don't seem to be calling any of the remaining states yet including Arizona even Wisconsin. But I agree that too many other sources are taking it as a done deal. For either side to declare victory at this point is just foolish.

Clarich007 · 05/11/2020 13:40

Haha witches.Good one, like it 😂

Viviennemary · 05/11/2020 13:53

So iroñic that all the Democrats are saying we must accept the results of the vote now they look to be winning. It was a different story in 2016 when thry lost with all the protests from the usual suspects.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 13:54

Er Kljin I am listening to Jeremy Vine telling everyone that Biden has won in all but name, apparently can not be stopped now!!
Just had lots of guests on the show saying it is a done deal now - according the BBC election counter.

So yes the BBC are already heralding POTUS!

Too many sources are claiming a Biden victory, and it is inaccurate at the moment. Most states that count are too close to call actually.
If the media dialled it down the people might follow suit, it is irresponsible reporting in my view, given the violence on the streets in the US.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 13:55

I have never known such a nail biting election in my life time anyway, and I don't even live in the US, and could live with either scenario if need be.

pizzamummy · 05/11/2020 14:05

I'm hoping Trump would win even though I hate him. Trump is bad but Biden is worse. If Biden wins, a lot of these voters are going to hate it in the next decade and they are going to reap what they sow.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 14:14

Trump is going to Nevada, I am willing to bet that is where he announce victory - looking at the tracker he is likely win the following swing states:

Georgia
Pennsylvania
North Carolina

If you add Nevada to the mix it will be enough...

Why would he be flying there if he did not think it was achievable. Nevada to this point has not been on anyone's radar especially.

Viviennemary · 05/11/2020 14:40

I know Trump isnt popular but nothing disastrous has happened in the last four years. I think the usual world bullies are a bit afraid of him and what he might do which isn't a bad thing. I don't want Biden to be President. It will be a disaster.

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 14:42

Does anyone have up-to-date information on what is happening in Arizona?

I'm so irritated that various news outlets have falsely called Arizona early - and are still counting it as a Biden win, skewing the figures. I thought Biden had it in the bag when it wasn't actually the case!

Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 14:43

It will be a disaster.

I don't think it'll be a disaster. Biden is a safe pair of hands, which is what the world needs right now!

Viviennemary · 05/11/2020 14:45

Its a total disgrace. So obvious the whole media is anti trump. And that includes the BBC who are supposed to be neutral. Shameful.
