I hope it is okay if I sidle on to this thread to watch the fall out.

I didn't vote in the last election (teething nightmare baby and didn't care for either candidate anyway) and DH voted for Trump (we're red state conservatives and he's been a member of the republican party for nearly 30 years). Biden has our votes tomorrow though. Fuck Trump.

Interestingly, although I live in a red city in a red state I haven't seen that many Trump signs - at least not compared to the proliferation of them four years ago. And there are a fair few Biden signs too. Not that Tennessee will turn blue, but still, it is just nice to know that not all my neighbors are idiots Grin

I am by no means confident of a Biden victory, but I do feel hopeful. I know quite a few people who voted Trump last time who are voting for Biden this time. I don't know anyone who voted for Clinton last time who is voting Trump this time.

occa · 03/11/2020 00:53

Ive realized there's no point in trying to sleep tomorrow night - I'll just lie awake staring at the ceiling anyway, so I'm going to focus on work all day tomorrow and try to get as much done as I can.

My plan is to try to avoid the news entirely until after the kids are in bed then just grit my teeth and stay up until 270.

MerchantOfVenom · 03/11/2020 01:00

My guy that I follow in upstate NY - retired journo - who has been saying he believes Biden will win since the pandemic hit ...

He says this time, in 2020, it’s the Trumpies turn for the upset.

In 2016, we were all so, so sure that Hillary had it in the bag, and were shocked and then traumatised when it didn’t happen.

He reckons it’s the Trumpanzees turn this time. They’re all absolutely certain Trump has it, and are in for a rude shock come results time.

I so hope he is right. Of course, they will lose their absolute shit.

Back when Clinton supporters were upset at the 2016 result, they were told they were ‘butt-hurt snowflakes’ who should ‘get over it’.

I think the Trumpsters are going to totally school us on what it means to be a ‘butt-hurt snowflake’...

How have I missed this thread perviously!?
Los Angeles checking in and waving a blue hello

Ran a few errands today (stocked up on enough wine to see me through the next few days) and it's unnerving to see so many shops being boarded up in preparation for post-election chaos. And there's definitely high anxiety in the air today.

I'm alternating between utter terror and quiet optimism. But even with the optimism, it's honestly scary how Trump and his Trumpettes will respond to any result.

I live in a blue state & a blue city - but it's still disturbing how many emboldened Trump devotees here feel able to be so aggressive and make threats - both IRL and online. I've been on the receiving end a bit and however hard you try to remain calm and not respond - it's sad & scary to see that much hate in people.

Janegrey333 · 03/11/2020 01:04

Trump is a despicable oaf. He is a blight on the entire planet.

Have you heard of the Lincoln Project? They’re old school Republicans and they despise Trump.
tobee · 03/11/2020 03:30

Why? Why? Why? Did I come here to calm my nerves; when of course you're all as scared as me. 😧

Been catching up on this thread and I'm trying really hard to mentally be prepared to be able to cope with a Trump win. Would have been so desperate anyway, but even more so in the midst of Covid. 😔 That awful feeling that you know you'll not just be feeling terrible for 24 hours or so, but for 4 more years! Please, please don't let it happen. 🙏

Tellmetruth4 · 03/11/2020 06:40

I’m not even American but I’m so stressed by this all that I can’t watch the news today. I actually prayed for a Biden win and I’m not religious!

The planet, flora and fauna (including humanity) can not afford another 4 years of Trump. If he wins awful people like Bolsonaro will take it as a sign to double down on their bad deeds.

Roussette · 03/11/2020 06:57

Hello and welcome all new and old and returning posters, great to see you all. Smile

How have I missed this thread previously!?
We are thread no 107 Grin We've been plodding along since before last election and supporting each other through the horror that has been Trump. We've laughed and cried together, we've puzzled and pulled apart all sorts of things in the last four years, but the main thing is... we've supported each other and we'll be there for this last run at seeing Trump and his enablers out of the WH.

Merchant would love to follow your retired journo on Twitter if he tweets.
People knock Twitter with a vengeance, but I've learned so much since I joined as Trump was inaugarated and have built up to 2,500 followers, some great people who inform me in my ignorance. I felt so helpless at what was going on back then, and even though I'm in the UK, I know how much he affects us, and the world. Heck, I think Boris's exit will be swifter if Biden wins.

Anyway, a big welcome to all. Let's do this together 🌊🌊🌊🌊

I feel sick. I've loads of work to do today so I'm going to try to block it all out for now. But I am really quite nervous.
SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 03/11/2020 07:35

I'm in Ireland and I'm thinking of all of the US right now. Boarding up shops and farming journalists with riot gear is never a good sign. I have everything crossed for a Biden win.

lifesabitchandthenyoudie · 03/11/2020 07:36

Sorry, I had something pertinent an clever to say but you’ve summed it up much better!

First return... 5 citizens.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 03/11/2020 07:37

I think my mood ‘swingometer’ is going to be off the scale today!

In less guarded moments, the president over recent weeks has told advisers he is worried about new prosecutions, including by federal prosecutors, if he loses

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 03/11/2020 07:41

Arming journalists not farming journalists. I've been up since 5am feeding a bunch of traumatised hens my DD brought home. Obviously farming on my mind.

Can't believe the day has come.

Useful final analysis piece from the WP

Hilarious re the early votes from the county in New Hampshire! Biden should declare victory now and insist all further counting is stopped Grin Grin

CaveMum · 03/11/2020 08:22

Deep breaths folks, here we go!

Whatever the result I am not expecting things to be pretty between now and Inauguration.

Red/Blue pens at the ready...

CaveMum · 03/11/2020 08:29

@TitoTipples I should add that these threads have been running so long some of us have had babies 😂 My own was merely a bump when Trump was elected and now a strapping (and noisy) 3.5yo!

SorrelForbes · 03/11/2020 08:38

Ive been following these threads from the start and haven't missed one (only posted twice I think!). They have been invaluable for helping to keep me informed and sane over the last 4 years. Feeling slightly nauseous about what might or might not be coming!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/11/2020 08:49

I agree that on the basis of the 5 citizens to none, Biden should declare now. Election over, all done and dusted!
This is all quite scary stuff, what with the farming ( @SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance ! ) journalists and building fences round the WH.. I hope no-one gets hurt whilst casting a vote today and I hope no-one is prevented from casting their vote, either. I feel democracy is fighting to stay democratic at the moment, if you see what I mean?

I like this from Amy Siskind (she of list fame) a couple of days ago - I do apologise if it has already been quoted here, I checked but couldn't see anything.

"I stopped off to get coffee at a local joint this morning, and several people asked me about the race, and to everyone I said, "I think it's going to be a blowout," and without exception, in eyes full of exhaustion for not having slept, they looked at me and said, for who?

I have never seen anything like this, what Trump has done to our collective psyche. I think somehow documenting him for 4 years, 7 days a week, I have become inured to his techniques. It bounces off me, because I can examine it analytically, and see through what he is doing, in the context of my work keeping The List.

So when you thank me for being positive, I'm really not. I'm basically a really nerdy person who is obsessed with numbers and data. All I'm doing is looking at the facts and putting them into context that is digestible. I'm shocked and horrified that I seem to be one of the few doing this. Stop and think about it: imagine if 2 days before the election, the most credible pollsters in the country gave Biden a 4-10% chance of winning. That is literally how you all are taking it in. But reality is the mirror opposite. And you're not alone, this is happening in all parts of my life people feeling what they think is PTSD from 2016, but it's more than that: it's the impact of 4 years of Trump.

The best laywoman explanation I saw of this was by Aesha Adams-Roberts PhD who is a relationship expert & love coach. She wrote as a comment: "this happens to abused people, especially narcissistic abuse. You kind of give in and dissociate because you’re exhausted from resisting," and compared what I am doing to being your girlfriend helping you get out of an abusive relationship. Those who are my friends in real life, know that is who I am there too, but here I am just being nerdy Amy. Telling you reality. But understand you are in a place - in an abusive relationship not able to take it in.

Hope this sheds some light. But the goal should be the same and that is to maximize turnout. Biden's national lead is a once in a generation opportunity. If we capitalize and maximize it we can win up and down the ballot. Let's do this together. Put away fear and spend the next two days volunteering to get out every last vote. Save America. 🇺🇸"

Lweji · 03/11/2020 08:50

What are we calling it?
T day?
D day? (Democracy)
H day? (Hope)
Or very boring E day? (Election)

Jason118 · 03/11/2020 08:53

Good luck America, looking forward to welcoming you back into the world, fingers and toes crossed for you all.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 03/11/2020 08:57

Please, not "T Day"! I like "D Day" best, myself! Peculiarly apt, given how/why it originated!

fussychica · 03/11/2020 09:09

I wish I didn't have this nagging bad feeling about the result. I will be so happy to be wrong.
Watched the final part of The Trump Show last night. OMGShock even worse than I thought. Please America make it D day.
