To wonder if sex has changed?

Lately it seems that any time anyone on tv has sex it's from behind. I'm sure it didn't use to be like that. And I can't work out if it's anal (which I wouldn't do in a month of Sundays) or just a different way of accessing the usual bits (which I don't mind). And what does the woman get out of it?

It feels like they changed things while I wasn't looking... did I miss a rule change? Am I impossibly old fashioned?

Maybe it’s Covid restrictions for the actors??

Toilenstripes · 21/10/2020 19:49

It’s probably about the better angles and it looks sexier.

addler · 21/10/2020 19:50

I haven't noticed a change on TV but it's probably my favourite position. It feels deeper and harder.

CheshireDing · 21/10/2020 19:51

Loving that it might be due to covid restrictions 😂.

It’s bloody good from behind, maybe that’s why 🤷‍♀️😂

AwkwardMoment2020 · 21/10/2020 19:54

It’s been like this for about 8 years on TV and the increasingly graphic sex scenes all of us actresses were expected to do was part of why I stopped auditioning for TV and Film.
It used to be that a young actress would get called in for a bit part on Casualty as an invalid or the like for early TV roles but many of us were finding, with HBO, and the like we were getting called in to audition to be fucked from behind over a table then slapped across the face and chucked out.

All the casting directors and even drama teachers when I was at drama school seemed to think it was every woman’s dream to be “taken and fucked from behind”.

In reality we like all sorts of different things. I’d agree that it’s rarer to see missionary or other face to face positions (other than woman on top) on TV/Film these days and more likely that you will see doggy or other from behind positions.

I don’t think it’s meant to depict anal lol.

WeWantTheFinestWines · 21/10/2020 22:06

So sorry Awkward that is horrible. Sounds misogynistic and cruel.

Judging by other replies I may be missing a trick. Maybe worth a try when I'm no longer single...

OP, you sound like you haven't had sex from behind?!?!

halfmoonfullmoon · 21/10/2020 22:30

have you never had sex from behind?!

feministfemme · 21/10/2020 22:34

Meh, not particularly partial to it myself. You never have to do anything you're uncomfortable with.

Handsnotwands · 21/10/2020 23:06

It’s so you (the viewer) get a good look at boobs, unhindered by more than a glimpse of the guy over the shoulder

Anotherthink · 21/10/2020 23:09

What tv are you watching I honestly haven't noticed this Grin

WeWantTheFinestWines · 21/10/2020 23:13

Can't even remember - certainly seen it in I May Destroy You and other stuff too recently.

I have had sex from behind, years ago, didn't really do anything for me, I much prefer being on top. And it seems very impersonal. But that's just me - maybe I should give it another go.

Toontown · 21/10/2020 23:16

It is a lot about male control.

overnightangel · 21/10/2020 23:18

“And what does the woman get out of it?“

Are you kidding?! 😂

burglarbettybaby · 21/10/2020 23:18

I have noticed this too eg. Peaky blinders and so on.

emilyfrost · 21/10/2020 23:18

Doggystyle is one of the most popular positions there is, so it shouldn’t be surprising to see it so often on tv.

justasking111 · 21/10/2020 23:20

We did go through a phase of up against the wall, I was in admiration of the men who could pick up, hold, and achieve this physically. You need legs of steel I would have thought.

I think it probably is all about camera angles and control now. I am not a fan they make it so violent on film.

Butteredtoast55 · 21/10/2020 23:21

It was a Game of Thrones default position and I think it is linked to the rise of more graphic porn. Honestly, on film, I find it a bit dehumanising of women. Don't mind it in person though! [Wink]

MorganKitten · 21/10/2020 23:25

It’s a better g spot position

CorianderLord · 21/10/2020 23:30

It's normal sex just from behind. Very common, all my friends enjoy it as do I. It gives you easy access to the clitoris 🤷‍♀️

On Tv I imagine that it's when they don't want to imply romance which is insinuated by missionary.

Goosefoot · 21/10/2020 23:33

I think it's about the visuals mostly. It's not necessarily historically accurate when they show it in older things, different and cultures and periods have different preferred sexual norms.

It does seem to be porn related and I think it's not an accident that they used porn actresses for some roles in GoT. It's funny really, because with porn so easy to find you'd think it would be kind of superfluous on regular tv. And the fact that the are carrying on with this approach that really affects young actresses pretty negatively in the wake of MeToo is a little hard to credit.

PickAChew · 21/10/2020 23:34

Actually quite like sex from behind through the usual entrance. Touches all the right places.

oakleaffy · 21/10/2020 23:36

@MootingMirror

OP, you sound like you haven't had sex from behind?!?!
Don't know why, but this has made me laugh out loud 😂
Whatwouldscullydo · 21/10/2020 23:38

What on earth are you watching?

I hate sex on TV tbh. They always just pound away in a way that would get either of them no where and just bloody hurt.

oakleaffy · 21/10/2020 23:43

@emilyfrost

Doggystyle is one of the most popular positions there is, so it shouldn’t be surprising to see it so often on tv.
And even music albums are called this, too.

''Doggystyle''
