To wonder if sex has changed?

Lately it seems that any time anyone on tv has sex it's from behind. I'm sure it didn't use to be like that. And I can't work out if it's anal (which I wouldn't do in a month of Sundays) or just a different way of accessing the usual bits (which I don't mind). And what does the woman get out of it?

It feels like they changed things while I wasn't looking... did I miss a rule change? Am I impossibly old fashioned?

@titsbumfannythelot

There was some guidance in Scotland about this during lockdown. It advocated positions not facing one another and mutual masturbation 😳

Needless to say I can't find it now.

It’s in this Canadian guidance too.

www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/prevention-risks/covid-19-and-sex

It actually suggests using a glory hole, which made me laugh. I can’t imagine any woman being up for it through a glory hole - they just wouldn’t bother.

Goosefoot · 22/10/2020 13:29

I think women are led to belive that we are all hairless now, but not the case - even if you regularly wax it grows back fairly quickly and you'll have stubble? In my circles it's definitely going the other way. Also...surely people have been foregoing their waxes of late due to covid (and saving a fortune!)?

The trend is going toward less removal now I think, though there seem to be some pretty strong demographic differences.

titsbumfannythelot · 22/10/2020 13:56

Glory hole? Heavens to Betsy. Every day is a school day!

titnomatani · 22/10/2020 22:42

@GilbertMarkham

Hold on, so there's a difference between doggy style and anal sex? I thought it was all the same thing?!

ConfusedHmm

Wtaf.

I come from a very sheltered background where sex isn't something that's openly talked about. I genuinely thought when people said doggy style, they were referring to anal sex 🙈

Cloudtraffic · 22/10/2020 22:56

Why are posters misinterpreting what OP asked re film/tv preferences with what they do/enjoy?

Genuinely it’s a really good question that some are making out to insinuate that OP is prude, inexperienced or something.

Would be really interested to know age (roughly obviously) of those responding

I know! Whoever came up with that has never met a woman, let alone had sex with one.

Just found this gem on the Canadian guidance:

"Masturbating by yourself (solo sex) will not spread COVID-19. If you masturbate with a partner(s), physical distancing will lower your chance of getting COVID-19."

Mutual masturbation incorporating a two metre distance? Hats off to anyone who can pull that off.

Outlander series had so many sex scenes, it wasnt needed for the storylines and i found it cringing on times. The actors/actresses are talanted but i didnt understand the need for so many sex scenes

Tiredtiredtired100 · 22/10/2020 23:44

This thread has me chuckling.

FWIW doggy style and against the wall have always been good for me. Maybe I have dated men with glutes of steel or maybe just being petite and dating guys a fair bit taller than me has worked out well Smile

I saw that - for England too. It may have been a feature on BBC News website!

I was going to say the opposite - the wall thing is easy when you are tall / similar height to the guy, you just stand on one leg while leaning on the wall, no balancing or muscles from a man required! can be very good!

Yes, I found it very off-putting, thanks goodness for skipping ahead. But the books are basically romance novels so in that sense it fits right in.

I always found it harder to have against the will sex with someone taller than me. It has worked best when we were the same height.

NeonGenesis · 23/10/2020 03:53

Jesus, that's supposed to say against the wall sex. Yikes.

titsbumfannythelot · 23/10/2020 05:28

I felt the same about the outlander sex scenes, I don't like Claire's sex noises.

Caeruleanblue · 23/10/2020 05:46

Missionary position for me - then clit is rubbed as well.
Doggy doesn't do it for me, or not often.
I have never noticed any man touching the woman's clitoris on tv doggy style sex. I look because I am amazed she is supposedly getting so much from it. Looks to me like he is using her for a receptacle rather than a partner.

NeonGenesis · 23/10/2020 06:52

This always surprises me too. When I'm in that position it's either my hand or DH's hand down there. Otherwise it wouldn't be much fun for me, and I certainly wouldn't be making theatrical screams of passion.

nosswith · 23/10/2020 06:56

Sex on tv being realistic? Never any mention of condoms or contraception in general.

WeWantTheFinestWines · 23/10/2020 08:18

I'm loving hearing people's views on this. As with everything else, whatever works for you and whoever you're with - enjoy! I'll stick with what works for me if I ever get to have sex again--

Height seems to be a factor - do we need diagrams at this point? 🤣🤣🤣

For HBO it all appears to be about getting the boobs out for the lads to get a series established. I noticed that as GoT got more popular the nudity reduced. They found this formula worked with Rome so have been using it since, as have others.

Fucket · 23/10/2020 08:45

As I’ve got older and married (after quite a lot of shagging in my 20s) my tastes for what I want or don’t want to see regarding sex scenes has changed.

Before marriage my sex life was modelled on porn and tbh not very female orientated. Now when I watch these sex scenes I just think, “poor love, having to pretend she’s having the time of her life”

Am I a prude now? God knows, and I don’t care. The best films / TV that deal with sex IMO are the old ones when the censors were really strict. They basically relied on the viewers to fill in the blanks.

I think I read somewhere the younger generation are having less sex than previous ones and I find it ironic that Our society has more exposure to graphic sex in films and TV but we are losing interest in it as an activity.

CoalCraft · 23/10/2020 09:32

I think it feels better from behind 🤷 And I think the camera angles are probably more favourable - more jiggling that way.

Unless the show explicitly says otherwise I tend to assume it isn't anal, because personally I've never liked the idea of that, but I expect the ambiguity is another benefit in the show runner's mind.

I don't watch enough TV, especially not enough raunchy TV, to say whether trends have changed, but it wouldn't surprise me if they had. There's fashions in all things lol.
