To wonder if sex has changed?

Lately it seems that any time anyone on tv has sex it's from behind. I'm sure it didn't use to be like that. And I can't work out if it's anal (which I wouldn't do in a month of Sundays) or just a different way of accessing the usual bits (which I don't mind). And what does the woman get out of it?

It feels like they changed things while I wasn't looking... did I miss a rule change? Am I impossibly old fashioned?

From behind like that (when it's not anal) is called doggy style. The man can get deeper that way, and it's easier for him to reach around and rub the woman's clit. I prefer the lying down spooning version though.

Cuddling57 · 21/10/2020 23:46

I hadn't noticed the style but have noticed everything has sex in it nowadays when it's just not needed!

Do agree...

Hardly ever watch TV these days, but always disliked it, especially if watching alongside family members {Like the in-laws}.

Not needed..{personally}.

LomasLongstrider · 21/10/2020 23:49

It's also good if the woman wants to use a vibrator on her clit (or her fingers), while the man thrusts (it's harder for the woman to use a vibe on herself when she's on top, and trying to focus on the "riding" motion).

Sex on tv always reminds me of the old black and white films where they embrace and/kiss - could knock somesones teeth out or give the oerson a bloody nose!

True what someone else saud about against the wall too plus the metoo headlines.

Tv doesn't truly reflect real life or I am definately in another universe!

feistyoneyouare · 21/10/2020 23:52

@WeWantTheFinestWines

Can't even remember - certainly seen it in I May Destroy You and other stuff too recently.

I have had sex from behind, years ago, didn't really do anything for me, I much prefer being on top. And it seems very impersonal. But that's just me - maybe I should give it another go.

As soon as I read your post I wondered if you'd been watching I May Destroy You, as it had me wondering exactly the same thing! Grin

I may be in the minority but I actually tend to find it a bit painful from behind, so I've never really been sure what people like about it.

Another thing that strikes me all the time about TV sex (without wanting to derail the thread) is the lack of pubes. I'm early 50s so probably out of step here, but I genuinely don't know how much of that is for the cameras and how much it's a real-life thing. I often think that if I became single again I'd feel like I had to get rid of it all or the guy wouldn't fancy me... Blush

MLMsuperfan · 21/10/2020 23:52

It's always when you're watchig with your parents, isn't it?

What is it with Americans in tv shows ajd all the breathing all over eachother all the time.

Surprised they even want sex after smelling someone else's lunch for hours....

RiseoftheSeahorse · 22/10/2020 00:02

We did go through a phase of up against the wall, I was in admiration of the men who could pick up, hold, and achieve this physically. You need legs of steel I would have thought

I’ve noticed this still seems to be the preferred position for characters who are having an affair (or otherwise shouldn’t be having sex). Either up against a wall, or the woman perched on a table while the man stands facing her.

Anatomically it wouldn't be possible

feistyoneyouare It’s quite rare these days for women to have hair at all, and extremely rare to have a full bush.

I’m in my thirties and have always shaved it all off since being an adult. I prefer it that way; it feels and looks nicer.

goose1964 · 22/10/2020 00:09

I've not noticed this. I've only noticed women on top.

NeonGenesis · 22/10/2020 00:15

Not sure why you think a woman would get nothing out of it... we all like different things. For me it feels great.

But I agree that there is a general trend of more rough, impersonal sex on tv. Maybe Because people are using more hook up apps and having sex with people they don't know very well? I honestly am not sure.

NeonGenesis · 22/10/2020 00:17

It’s quite rare these days for women to have hair at all, and extremely rare to have a full bush.

In me experience it's gone totally the other way - no hair is seen as being a slave to the patriarchy. Body hair is back in. Maybe it depends what circles you move in?

It can be done but it's a move of desperation and it at all satisfying
LightDrizzle · 22/10/2020 00:18

I really haven't noticed this!
It's a great position for the woman to give herself a helping hand though, which they'll need given the lack of foreplay. I know it would slow things down rather but it's so unrealistic that the woman is arching and gasping at the second thrust after being lucky to have had her neck kissed for all of two seconds.
The standing up sex must surely be a cinematic trope. Admittedly at 5ft it presents particular challenges, but yes, the man would have to be blessed with thighs, glutes and arms of steel and pretty nifty coordination; and the poor woman is essentially either dangling or pinned against a wall so immobilised and just being pounded.
Never hear any fanny farts either. Can't think why.

what?!
is this true?
I am proud to admit I do have a trimmed but full bush!

Itisbetter · 22/10/2020 00:35

feistyoneyouare It’s quite rare these days for women to have hair at all, and extremely rare to have a full bush. don’t be ridiculous. What age group are you talking about? The vast majority of women (in my experience) do NOT shave it all off. Why would they?

I honestly have zero idea what public hair my friend and family have!

From behind is an the rage with the Vikings

ShortFatandDumpy · 22/10/2020 00:46

Expectations of sex have changed.
These days the expectation is to be like a performing seal at the circus from day 1.

Yes it’s always women on top in tv sex scenes doing all the work while the man just lies there.......bit like housework.
oakleaffy · 22/10/2020 01:07

@MLMsuperfan

Or in laws.

My In Laws would start frantically stroking Tibby the cat, or would go and put the kettle on.

BeardieWeirdie · 22/10/2020 01:09

I think that the “sex”/rape scene in I May Destroy You with Bella and the no-condom-guy is purposefully from behind. In any other position, she would see exactly what the bastard was up to when chucking the condom.

titnomatani · 22/10/2020 01:18

Hold on, so there's a difference between doggy style and anal sex? I thought it was all the same thing?! 🤨

BuntysTwinkle · 22/10/2020 01:35

I can't remember the last time I watched an adult drama, but when I did you weren't able to examine for pubes or no pubes. Sounds like things have changed quite a bit!
